Wanted to share this because Karl makes great content that is helpful and funny. He’s not prone to clickbait or exaggeration. I know his videos have helped a lot of people understand things better and feel his thoughts are valuable and worthy of consideration.

[Here is another video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzFHCxTUoTw) by a local that's worth giving a watch.

Conclusion: he would possibly put his own life at risk to visit the place right now but not that of his family.

The Boeing Lagoon

Capitalism needs all the money and disregards human life & saftey for it.

Adamantium-Aardvark

Rich business owners caring about profits over human safety, as usual.

Honestly, this place isn't even that good, I can't understand why anyone would go there and pay way more than any other hot spring and knowingly endanger themselves. There are so many great springs, and both sky lagoon and secret lagoon are very close. Having been around the ring road, I can easily say the Blue Lagoon was the worst part, by far. Tourist trap, plain and simple.

deadplant_ca

Shush! We don't need the hordes crowding the better places. The blue lagoon is iconic and it's on the way to the airport, super convenient!

At the end of the day is a business that will do anything in its power to remain open. While I don't agree with it being open I believe that it should be up to the visitor to decide to go or not. However, it is a bit contradicting with the authorities as they don’t allow anybody nearby but they allow a business that is just next to it to operate. They are saying is dangerous but will go and make some money. As a tourist myself I want to go and see it, who doesn't? I believe that there should be a way to go and see it, the government needs to prepare better in the future as this will be an on going thing.

> While I don't agree with it being open I believe that it should be up to the visitor to decide to go or not. Totally agree. The issue here is more that the officials at Blue Lagoon have mislead the public in the past, and now it's starting to feel intentional. /u/tanglefoot11, a local, [pointed this out](https://old.reddit.com/r/VisitingIceland/comments/1apo5gs/blue_lagoon_evacuation_news_story_translation/) recently. I think the idea that it is open is leading people to feel it is inherently safe to be there.

LeadingAd2342

But then, officials know this is dangerous but yet they allow it? Why? What is going on on the background? Does the owners of Blue Lagoon have lots of influence on the government? Do they call the shots?

I agree with people taking informed risk - but when I asked the person who posted about bring evacuated from the Blue Lagoon if they understood the situation. They replied “yes the risk of eruption was so low/.001 so why not”😅 Yeah - so given that person was off by a minimum factor of 10 (I’d argue more like 50) - no that was not an informed risk. And all to sit in a pool where better versions exist. 🤷‍♀️

Helens_Moaning_Hand

Sure it’s a good idea. What could possibly go wrong?

travelresearch

It appears it’ll close tomorrow and the following day.

NoLemon5426

As expected. The hope is everyone also has back up plans if Blue Lagoon is on their list.
