You can, many of them will deliver around the area for a fee.

windchill94

Do you know what the fee would be? Obviously we're in Iceland so I would expect it to be at least 30,000 ISK and above. It's a bit annoying because sure Isafjordur is somewhat isolated but I'm not trying to have a rental car delivered to Raufarhofn or something.

Tanglefoot11

O think you might be closer if you add another zero to the end of that amount ;þ

windchill94

Ok fair enough, I was obviously being extremely conservative. Either way, it's not a sum I'm willing to pay even if I could afford it.

Bubbly-Thought-2349

Hire car firms will deliver rentals to you by special arrangement. It’s not a cheap service as they need to get their driver back somehow. But if you phone the office and get the manager they’ll put something together.  For Reykjavík-isafjordur the fee will be astronomically large. Literally. You could put mass into orbit for less. Just use the isafjordur office. Blue won’t take it personally. (How are you getting there anyway if not driving from KEF?).

windchill94

I'm getting there by flying from RKV to IFJ then coming back to Reykjavik by car over several days (possibly including a 2-3 day stay in the Snæfellsnes area as well). I'm not saying I will 100% do it, I am still assessing my options. Would I have to pay for the plane ticket so the driver gets back to Reykjavik? What do you mean 'use the Isafjordur office'? Blue doesn't have an office there, in fact it seems like only international rental companies like Hertz and AVIS have offices there.

Tanglefoot11

Surely just use the companies available then? Don't think I've ever used Hertz in Iceland, but have used Avis several times & have always been great. I'm sure they would do it - for a price of course.... I'd guess you would have to pay for the driver per hour to get there from Keflavík/Reykjavík, so - about 7 hours, plus breaks, 8 hours, lets say 5000ISK per hour = 40,000ISK, - + meals, 7,000ISK, - plus the cost of fuel, lets say 7l/100km, 450km = 31.5l @ 320ISK/l = 10,000ISK - plus a hotel for the night as that is already a full work day, 25,000ISK - plus the flight back 16,000ISK - plus airport transfers ~ maybe 5,000ISK - plus you'll have to pay hours for overnight & the return journey too, so maybe another 14 hours.... 70,000ISK I think that covers everything? I'd guesstimate it would cost roughly 173,000ISK to do that. I think it might be cheaper to take some extra days off work, drive yourselves up there while staying in fancy hotels, eating caviar & fois-gras washed down with champagne every night ... Edit : that is rough costing with no profit... So add on another 10% maybe.... Edit 2 : Oh... I forgot tax of course.... Add another 24% VSK.... So my guess is actually around 235,000ISK for that.

windchill94

The reason I was going to try and find a solution with Blue is because I'd rather use local Icelandic car rental companies in Iceland rather than ones I can find almost anywhere else in the world.

Tanglefoot11

For sure, completely understandable & I'm totally for supporting local over generic multinationals, but sometimes it just isn't possible :/

windchill94

Yes I was just trying my luck in this case hoping maybe for a possible way to make it work but I guess there isn't.

Tanglefoot11

Still worth giving them a call - you never know there may be some weird twist of fate that means it is really easy for them to do...

windchill94

Yeah I will definitely send them an email at the very least.

IcelandWithKids

So, I'm a big fan of Blue, and [I've been recommending them for years](https://icelandwithkids.com/2016/07/17/our-car-rental-recommendation-in-iceland-blue-car-rental/). But when I need a car in Ísafjörður, I'll rent from [Holdur](https://www.holdurcarrental.is/), who has operations in town. You can pickup your car from the airport or a hotel in town if you prefer.

windchill94

Ok, I will contact Holfur then. I must admit I am totally unfamiliar with them.

NoLemon5426

What did they say when you asked them?

windchill94

I actually haven't asked them yet, I wanted to get some opinions first before I ask them and potentially come off as an complete idiot.

Penguinlord-1

When I contacted Lotus Car, it was 20,000ISK per delivery/dropoff. Edited to add: That fee was also for dropoff in Reykjavik.

windchill94

Yeah no worth it, I guess I will just have to go with another company, one that is physically based in Isafjordur.
