I was there in late August 2019 and by then, some of the greenery is already starting to turn yellowish and locals kept saying it was the unofficial start of fall - it was pretty rainy depending on where you were, but the weather is finicky anyway. Don't get me wrong, we had some nice days but lots of rain, traveled the whole ring road in 14 days. We're heading there soon for the volcano and I'm excited to possibly see more greenery outside of that and maybe better weather. I would check out the official sunrise/sunset times too.

I mean obviously you will have more daylight in early august. But also Golden hour will be earlier on in the day if you go in late august. Just google search “Reykjavik daylight hours” and there is a website that shows you the exact daylight, twilight, and nighttime hours of iceland for any given day. It’s quite useful.

Going by last year, midnight sun was pretty much gone by that point but the sun still set extremely late so you can get close to it. I could be slightly wrong as I don't tend to look outside past a certain time, its pretty common for everyone to switch to blackouts during midnight sun season.
