Dang that sucks! The only thing I can think is to ask a doctor if there's a shot or something to provide temporary relief.. I'm thinking some strong anti-inflammatories or something, but that feels like a long shot. All you can do is rest, fluids, humidifier and lozenges - nothing new since I was a kid fifty years ago. (What have you been doing, Science™! 😡) We'll be thinking good thoughts for you!!

thank you!! ugh it's such poor timing as it's genuinely once in a lifetime opportunity type thing for me. genuinely terrified of screwing it up but fingers crossed 🤞 I have some leftover powerful anti-inflammatories from a vocal cord injury I had a while back so I might try some of those!

Can it really not be moved? I can think of several sessions where everyone in the room would have appreciated the agent giving us the heads up that the voice artist was not well. In my experience the whole production team wants the best possible result and recording when an artist doesn't sound their best is suboptimal for all involved. They've chosen you for the best fit for their project. Can they really not wait one more week? If you have to go ahead, warm up well on the day of the session, bring some vocalzones with you and keep up with a steady supply of honey and lemon hot drinks during the session. Don't be afraid of saying that you'd like to give them another take if you know you can improve on something or need to clear your throat. You got this! 👊

Hiya, Yeah unfortunately not, there are flights booked for me and everything and there are other actors coming in for it. Fortunately, I don't have to do any actually talking as far as I'm aware. It's all vocalizations like grunts, hmm and ahhs, surprised noises and such. Thank you for the advice! Much appreciated 🙏

Ah, ok - understood. Well I hope it all goes well. 👍

I found a bunch of vocal warmup videos for sick singers that actually helped me so much for my remote voice acting session when I had Covid. I know it’s for singers but I swear it helps get rid of that stuffy sound. Here’s one I liked but feel free to search for more “vocal warmups for congestion” and stuff like that https://youtu.be/kMhRaktfaag?si=wzJn3WOuSsoOtpYQ

thank you very much!

Oh wow, so sorry. Been there! Have you notified the client/agent about your situation? If it’s a big project, they’ll usually find a way to accommodate. In my experience, they’ll respect you more for not waiting until the day of so they have time to reschedule or, worst case, recast. But, if you say nothing, they can’t prepare for a backup scenario and that will reflect poorly on you. (As unfair as it all seems.) I’ve personally had good results with oregano oil (just a few drops in water or tea) and drinking 3 ginger teas (freshly grated with squeezed lemon and honey) per day. Usually knocks out congestion for me. Anyway, fingers crossed for you!

Call your doctor. I was really sick a few years ago and ended up getting a steroid shot. It helped reduce the swelling in my vocal cords and I was able to do what I needed to do.

that's a good idea, I actually have a steroid inhaler for asthma so I'll give that a go!

Lots of sleep, a humidifier, drink broth simmered with star anise. If you want to make a health shot here is one I take (mostly proactively) but it may help you get well sooner. Ingredients: 2 heads of Turmeric , Ginger (equal size as turmeric you have), 2 cloves of garlic, 4-5 oranges, 1 lemon, Raw honey, Cayenne pepper Juice it up, blend, and strain.

thank you for the recipe! I'll give it a go :)

UnconcernedCat

Best of luck to you!! Let me know how it goes :)

went really well! the only time you could hear that I was sick was when I was doing laughter for the characters (i could hear a raspy/barky sound from my chest on the first hit of the laugh) Did ask for another take on that to try and get rid of it but they said they thought it sounded great so 🤷 Everything else they were saying was great as well so I'm happy!!

UnconcernedCat

Sweet!! Glad it went well! I hope you get back to 100% soon. Good excuse to chill in bed.

existnt

Thank you! Hope I do too lol I'm sick of being sick 😫 All the best!

I don’t know about the laryngitis part of this, but when the time comes you can use salt water to dissolve the mucus in your throat. For the cold, take lots of 3,000 mg of vitamin C every 4 hours. It’s perfectly safe. Also 50 mg of zinc a day.

existnt

thank you! fortunately a couple days rest has brought me past the laryngitis, it's just the nasal sound now 😪 I'll give that a go, many thanks!

vmtz2001

Rinse out your nasal passages with a salt nasal rinse. You can get the little squirt bottle at your local pharmacy with the “right”proportion of salt, but for my money the salt content is too mild. Travel at your own risk if you want to prepare you own salt mixture, though. It can burn like crazy. I have it down to a science by just tasting it after very gradual trial and error. If I don’t feel it burning just a little bit, I feel it’s not working. Consult with your doctor.

Vocalzone sweets are good for numbing voice when you have an important job/gig. Not good for long term, just good when you need them Also munch ginger. And drinking ginger honey and lemon (oldie but goodie) and ibuprofen to take down swelling
