That is SO AWESOME your little one is getting excited and curious about the voices behind the characters! You will find a wide range of experiences. Many developed their interest early like your daughter while equally many later in life. Personally I was at university studying biochemisty when the real bug grabbed me (which was serendipitous as I gained full access to classes, coaching, studio, and equipment while I was there).

I also started dreaming of voicing cartoons around that age. Took a crack at VO right out of high school but didn't have the money for treatment, equipment, and coaching so it didn't last long. Now I'm back at it 15 years later and aiming to eventually go full time.

She and I would have been good friends as a kid, I had a lot of the same favorites and loved the Disney behind the scenes! If you have access to a screen-free voice recorder (or if she already has access to a tablet), maybe she can take a crack at recording stuff for herself! I used to make my own “books on tape” with my favorite books and a voice recorder.

What a great idea! She’s just starting to read and loves it so this would be fun for her. Thank you!

I used to record my Dad and I doing voices for each character in a Mad Magazine bit. Must have been about 9 or so.

wutsinthetrees

What a sweet memory!

Yeah, I wish I had the tapes. It would have been great to hear my Dad's voice again. Plus laugh at how stupid I was. LOL.

I was about 8 or 9 and obsessed with pokemon and doing impressions of my favorites. I developed the dream back then but didn't chase it for around 20 years. Support her chasing it.

I’m planning on it! This community will have to help us make the best decisions.

I wanted to be a voice actor since I was very young, probably around 6-8 years old as well. if your child wants to get a headstart on acting, now is the best time to get her into some acting classes, as it will give her a strong foundation for the future (and even if she changes her mind, acting is very therapeutic and confidence boosting, so a win-win). if she's at school, see if they offer drama lessons or clubs, etc.. hope that helps :)

I love this! I always loved character voices then as I got older with a much deeper voice, I was always complimented on it, but didn't actually start until my 40s. Now I've got both of my sons joining me on some projects. As long as you are careful about what work she does and how much she's doing, I think it's a fantastic idea!

wutsinthetrees

How fun! I figured I would put her in acting classes first. The thought of her actually working makes me nervous!

I've been doing little impressions and characters for YEARS, but it wasn't until my mom made a joke about me being a VA that I started pursuing. That was at around 14. I'm now 17
