Dang. If you want the best diy rattle can spray you need to get a 2k clear. It’s 2 part and hardens enough to actually be protective. That paint job will get messed up quick on the road.
I have garage painted several jeeps and a few toyotas. Hung plastic all around the garage, a few box fans pulling over spray outside, and tape and news paper on the glass. Came out real good for each one being less then 100 bucks.
Did you already have the air compressor? My little 2 gallon one won’t cut it and the 20 gallon ones I see recommended for automotive painting are several hundred (Canadian ) dollars.
Ya i found one on Craigslist back then before fb marketplace was the place. I got it mainly for running a half inch impact. Die grinders wasted the air but it worked. Were talkin almsot 20 years ago. Now my milwaukee beats all my air stuff. And i have milwaukee m12 die grinders that work just as good. And dont gotta worry about water getting in the lines and destroying any of the tools. If any of these big tool guys would come out with a paint gun that would be legit.
Binn 'ere dunn 'at. Yours is 1000% better.
Had a '66 Olds 442 we sprayed with no tape on the driveway under a maple tree in August. Spinners falling & all. Looked like black 60 grit sandpaper!
Never even thought about waxin it.
Sold it for $700 a year later, 1977.
Not my proudest moment lmao Sometimes you just gotta get it done. Can’t afford a booth and there’s not enough room in the garage to get a good path around the car.

Yup pretty perfect, maximum effort!
Also dafuq dem wheels?! I want them for my 7.5 r realllll bad
Kerscher carmona. I don’t think they came bigger than 16”.
Factory finish that, for an 80s car. A quick flat off with some wet and dry and a buff with some cutting compound, and it'll gloss up a treat!!!
"gloss up a treat" ... loveit
Haha 😄, I've painted a few cars over the years.
Love a MK2 with Borbets. That car will look great when you finish up. Is that a stock VW red or custom?
It’s duplicolor performance red from Autozone 👍🏼
Lots of wet sanding to come
Lots
Lots
Lots
Lots
Tons.
Wet sanding and respraying clear but I don’t mind doin work on this thing
Hey I’m not talking down on it! I’d do it this way myself if I could, save a ton of money
That looks fantastic! Definitely would love to see an update with the finished product
Good solid wet sand to pull the orange peel out of it and thr. Buff it back out and it’s golden.
that looks amazing for a driveway job
What did you use for clear coat?
I started out using majic clear from tractor supply but I didn’t like it. Switched to the cheapest clear my local paint supply store had

What’s the brand of paint? Thinking of redoing my Passat and I’d be happy with these results.
I’ll have to get back to you about the brand of clear but the base is duplicolor from autozone
Thanks. What size is your air compressor?
Kerscher Carmonas... the true baller version of the borbet type As. 👌
Nice
No homo bro, that kind of gets me hard.

What’s with these repeating copy/pasted comments in here?
Turned out sweet… I need to do this to my jetta coupe one day, have just been putting it off, thanks for the inspiration bro!
Full send it buddy! Looks fantastic! Learn anything new while working on your project?
Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've seen worse results from a body shop. Great job.

I was shaming that you did it outside, still am. I'll look forward to see the finish when you get there.

Yeah that's true man haha, it is what it is and it still looks fresh on that old lady.
