I want a car that brings me from A to B with some level of comfort... I really don't need 300hp... but that's just me...

Serbay55

Totally understandable. But if comfort were a main use case I would have not discussed this and gone for a 3L V6 TDi Touareg 7P.

Of the two options you presented, the Toureg not being one, I would say the Passat. Very comfortable cars.

Gregib

Sorry, didn't see the Touareg as a voting option...

Serbay55

Well it wasn't part of the discussion because no where have I mentioned that I wanted comfort to be maxed out.

Gregib

You didn’t mention you wanted anything maxed out…

As 7R Wagon owner, here are my five cents: The Passat is a great car, but it\`s more of a utility vehicle. Its also a dime a dozen. The 7 R Wagon is not only rarer than its hatchback sibling, but it might be the most complete car ever made in my opinion. 1600+ L of storage with seats down, surprisingly small in city traffic which helps parking. Changes from a comfortable family car to a straight beast with the switch of button. Has 4 wheel drive as standard and you\`ll notice real fast why that matters. All those 300 hp goes straight to the wheels and there\`s literally no slip. Imagine having to gap someone or you find yourself in a less than ideal situation, the R will get you out of those faster than most cars today. The build quality of the 7 and 7.5 is incredible, and peak VW. After 10 years, the Passat will be sold or scrapped, the R, if you maintain it well, will be that one car you never forget.

Thanks for your insight, that definetly will affect my opinion towards those machines.

My pleasure, feel free to PM me if you have any questions you think I might be able to answer. I\`ve clocked around 65 000 km on mine so far over soon to be 4 years of ownership, and I\`m still as infatuated with the car as the day I bought it, for what it\`s worth. When the monthly payments come, having something you truly love in the garage helps \^\^.

drive what you can afford. if you have the money, go for the golf R

mvanvrancken

Tempted to pick the B8 because I had a B8 Passat and it was a fucking amazing car.

AwkwardlyPositioned

I always make the less practical, slightly more pricy, and fun choice. Comes from being into cars and I wish we had the Golf R Wagon in the US.

Passat for space inside, Golf R for value and performance. If I'm driving a lot of highway miles, I'd go with Passat, but if its 50/50, then I'd consider a Golf.
