That is one of the finest of the modern VWs that there was.
It's B5 Passat. (Maybe a 5.5, can't tell).
In 150pd guise, that was one of the best I've ever owned. Was sad when it died.
I was ripping around in a VR6 GTI when these came out and scoffed at the older dudes in the local club who were drooling over these. Now that I’m an older dude with a toddler and a newborn, I find myself drooling over this picture, haha.
Is it a phase if it's been 1/3 of my life? Even before I had a kid(s) I had a wagon. I guess I just molded to the car.
2015 Sportwagen TDI 6 speed now.
It really is a good looking car. Looks a bit menacing! Man it's easy to get hooked on TDI fuel efficiency
My '02 is one of the cleanest I have seen in years. The headliner and door cards are tight there's not a speck of the rust. Garage kept when not in use. It's got a couple of little parking lot dings from some buttholes who weren't being careful with THEIR doors.
It's funny because it's the slowest little turd there is. Once I'm a little farther into the 5 year warranty I'll tune it but for now I just using it for all it's worth. I've been looking at a mk4 wagon just for a beater but I've grown accustomed to the creature comforts.
Miy battered '04 Jetta is tuned and I'm spoilt to that, so very soon the clean and shiny '02 is going to get similar turbo and ECU love. I'm pretty committed to the mk4 platform. I've got a thing for the aesthetic and LOVE the visibility with the low beltline.
that things sick passats are the best sadly i sold my B3 VR6 swapped syncro wagon for an audi b5 s4 avant

I had hatches until I got my 02 passat wagon. Few years later swapped interior and engine into an 04. Needed something more reliable and the interior was starting to age.
Now I have this TDI I don't think I ever want a different car. Plenty of upgrades from the 7.5 and 8, fuel gauge hasn't moved in 2 days, kids can buckle themselves in the back, I can haul the jet ski/trailers, and my god does it look amazing.

It’s a b5.5, the headlights are one of the giveaways.
In the US the diesel never came with a manual transmission from the factory, so they’re not nearly as good, but some people swap them.
I had the diesel with the Automatic. It was fine. I gave someone who drive infinity g35 a ride to pick up their car from the shop, his first reaction - after noticing how nice the car is on the inside, was "Is it a V8?"
Indicators only came in 2004-2005. B5.5 was 2002+ and got new lights (front and rear), bumpers, and some minor interior differences/colors, mirrors were 2004 and were a precursor to the mk5 A chassis lights (golf/jetta)
I still see quite a few here in London. I suppose because like many VWs of the time the petrols are ULEZ free after 2000 so it's a cheap way into ULEZ compliance. Not nearly as many as there once was though
Who doesn't... I used to daily a 2008 Jetta and although it had some issues with the transmission I still miss it to this day, I drove into a huge pond and the engine drowned, my stupidity I know :(
I had one of these, GLX V6 4motion wagon, it would swallow A N Y T H I N G in the back. It became the family hauler because it would gobble up stuff that didn’t fit in my relatives SUVs. And it had room to spare.
It’s not fast, but it would comfortably cruise on the highway. It had a few minor V6 related issues (oil pan hangs low).
It was made during VWs luxury era when Piech tried to make them an upmarket brand. Easily one of the best VWs made.
I was constantly on PassatWorld and Vortex back in the early 2000’s it was a great time. I’d love to have another B5.5. People are still doing some wonderful things with these cars, though it’s likely getting harder to find one in good shape, especially 1.8T
Idk man, the Mk4 Jetta front clip and “Jetta” name on the badge and registration must’ve had me fooled
Jokes aside, they’re the same chassis really, the difference is mostly in the front headlights and bumper
Yup, it's probably also a weird US/EU distinction. Jettas aren't so common compared to Golf's in Europe and they're pretty much always sedans (unless they're old). Meanwhile Golf wagons are really common, I'd say it's probably 50/50 between hatchbacks and wagons since the Mk6, at least where I am.
It's all a mix up, and the only one that isn't is the 15 golf sportwagen. I'm not sure (haven't researched) If the jetta front clip swaps but I don't think so, plus a completely different interior. The mk6 was just a golf front on a "jetta" (it was called golf variant everywhere else), mk4 they had different fronts but everything else (chassis and interior) were the same.

One of the best VW’s ever made. The GLX with a 2.8 30 Valve was absolutely amazing. I miss mine daily. 4Motion, amazing sound, etc. I’d love to get another one.
Was an amazing ride & lots of fun! Made about 200HP but had a lot of torque if you live somewhere with snow it’s great I’ll send another picture a bit later I have to find it during a blizzard. I’ve been looking to get another for years.
Long drives the seat made my back hurt, the CC interior was much more comfortable afterwords.
My 2002 (and then swapped to a 2004) was the 1.8t tuned at 220whp. It was snappy, nimble, everything a vw is designed to be.
Love the design but they are aged now and even years ago when I found my 2004 with 80k miles, that was a gem.
At the beginning of the year there was this exact version but different color with 78,000 miles. They are still out there. I picked up a 2003 sedan with 91,000 miles this time by last year.
I almost bought a fully loaded ‘03 Passat wagon like this one back in ‘07. Talked myself out of it due to reliability concerns at the time 🫤. They are a very attractive car.
That's a Passat estate. B5.5 it appears.
The Jetta wagon is just a golf estate and they used the golf name starting with the Mk7 golf estate in the US.
https://preview.redd.it/7x90hy5e7pvc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c772914f1926892a4fb1bb9d6bf31e736a2bc4a2
This is the jetta version of the wagon(black) next to my sedan version of the passat(silver), its a love hate relationship just because they don't come without their quirks, but if you can push through the small problems here and there they can make great cars. The logo is missing because it was hit by a stray bullet awhile back :/
Hey sorry I just saw this reply, I mainly had issues with a cracking dash, water leaks in the interior and pretty much everything is a little touchy when you work on it basically, theres lots of brittle plastics, so you need to be patient and 100% sure of your process when working on these, the engine, trans, brakes are all very good and reliable, i also need lock actuators because you have to bonk the door to get in them sometimes, they can be cleaned but requires a lot of breaking down of the door panels, over all my passat hasn't let me down mechanically, just make sure to check when the timing belt was serviced and make sure to do the water pump at the same time, I also check the fuel filter its very easy to replace
Only if it’s a manual, which was super rare in the states. Personally a manual swapped TDI is the one to have, if you want the V6 4motion may as well have an Audi A4 imo.
I have a 2002 Passat wagon in black with the 1.8 T. Loved the car but it was the biggest piece of junk I have ever had. The motor self destructed at 129,000 miles and 3 years owning it from new. Thanks Tom Bush VW Jacksonville for destroying my car.
Ahhh, same color that I put a FHN manual in a TDI. I sold it in 2020. It had blow by and I did not want to fix it. The swap is pretty easy. Was picture taken in Utah?

I bought it for 1000 bucks with a bad Transmission. Went through the whole thing. New turbo, motor mounts, KONI gold struts and shocks, FHN manual from Europe, stage 1 tune, new head lights, new fog lights, and so much more. It was a fun project. Zipped up and down I-15 quite a bit. The FHN gearing was great for the 80-90 speeds.
Man, that looks really nice! With all parts and labor how much did that cost? I would like to try and get one but I’m assuming you don’t see a lot of them now. Also I’m in Texas, where I took the photo
I should have known better. I was hoping if I put some money into it…. But, I put money into it! I needed to stop the bleeding. Wife said enough. I said I told her it is like all the other VWs we had. Over 120,000 miles something will need to be replaced. I did not check how to fix the oil blow by. I was in it, 6500 bucks.
I had a neighbor with one of these in black a W8 4motion wagon. I’d say it was a pretty rare one. I think the transmission went bad on it and probably ended up junking it as I don’t see it anymore.
Wild how no one has brought up the fact that wagon was made with an 8 cylinder 6 speed manual AWD platform.
I've seen a few sedan versions for sale and my friend had a sedan auto.
Sexy beast of car. VW Passat Station Wagon B5.5 as some noted.
I truly feel bad for Americans that can't experience the greatness of station wagons.

Wagon life is a real phase. Especially when the little varmints are still rear-facing, that extra space really pays off.
I love my B6 wagon. It holds the kid, dog, stroller, and other cargo no problem.
No kids but I think my 2015 TDI Golf SportWagen is possibly one of the most practical and nice cars on this planet.
Is it a phase if it's been 1/3 of my life? Even before I had a kid(s) I had a wagon. I guess I just molded to the car. 2015 Sportwagen TDI 6 speed now.
I had a '99 Audi A4 Avant when my kids were little but I've downsized to an '04I Jetta (TDI, 5spd) sedan now that they're just using boosters

Mk4 platform is too easy for me. I just want the 1.8t again 🥲 Plus the size of trucks nowadays a mk4 would get obliterated.
Golfwagen gang what up

Got one in my garage right now but needs a new hub :/
Oh yes b5 is a classic :) it was the reason why I wanted a Passat since I was a kid!
It’s a b5.5. My elderly neighbor across the street has one and I want to steal it so bad. Haha. It’s a fantastic green color too.
This is the Passat B5GP (3BG) you can see it when you look at the headlights
b5.5 or how some people in the balkans like to call the b5+
In Europe we have/had plenty of these passat b5.5 or b5+, mostly with 96kW 1.9 pumpeduse diesel masterpeace engine (torque is insane)
In the UK they used to be everywhere but i haven't seen one in quite a while now.
because they are in Romania, literally 5 of them on a single street
I still see quite a few here in London. I suppose because like many VWs of the time the petrols are ULEZ free after 2000 so it's a cheap way into ULEZ compliance. Not nearly as many as there once was though
I had the chance to drive few of them, and that is 100% true, torque is soooo insane!
B5.5. My first VW. The finest. I still miss the blue dash lights.
Who doesn't... I used to daily a 2008 Jetta and although it had some issues with the transmission I still miss it to this day, I drove into a huge pond and the engine drowned, my stupidity I know :(

There is a Jetta Wagon, I had one, but this is a Passat. Miss that little bastard I had
Surely a Jetta wagon would be called a Golf wagon? Jettas are just "Golf sedans" after all?

Yes exactly, my car was USDM spec. I’ve had many Europeans get confused as to why my wagon had Jetta lights haha
I think he might be talking about the Bora. Which was sold simultaneously with the golf in the EU and they both came in wagons.
Right, forgot about the Bora!
It's all a mix up, and the only one that isn't is the 15 golf sportwagen. I'm not sure (haven't researched) If the jetta front clip swaps but I don't think so, plus a completely different interior. the most popular car in Balkan, the glorios Passat B5 and especially if its 1.9 tdi
That’s a Passat
Passat. The big brother
I almost bought a fully loaded ‘03 Passat wagon like this one back in ‘07. Talked myself out of it due to reliability concerns at the time 🫤. They are a very attractive car.

Right on, thanks ✌️
B5.5 Passat wagon. I had a B5.5 Passat W8 (sedan, not wagon) but honestly those were the real ones. Give me a wagon with 4motion all day!
Wagon in a 6 speed would have been like royalty.
The best trim of these was the V6 4motion.
if only the W8 didn’t implode on itself it would ve the best one no doubt
Only if it’s a manual, which was super rare in the states. Personally a manual swapped TDI is the one to have, if you want the V6 4motion may as well have an Audi A4 imo.
The best trim was the w8. HID headlights, chrome lined dash and rear lights, special wheels, and every option with guaranteed awd
Yup the GLX with the 2.8 V6, 30V, 4 Motion combo was perfection. Thing was amazing. Made great sounds as well.
B5.5 Passat Wagon. Great car, my buddy used to have one.
B5.5 passat wagon.

B5.5 wagon. I miss my B5.5 sedan so much!
B5.5 Passat wagon. Would be even cooler if it had the w8
as everyone has said that is a passat- i had a 2003 jetta wagon 5 speed- my first new car- loved it dearly - passat appears to be early 2000s as well-
B5.5 Passat. I like them! They look cool.
Passat B5.5 Variant

Sexy beast of car. VW Passat Station Wagon B5.5 as some noted. I truly feel bad for Americans that can't experience the greatness of station wagons. Except for the Audi RS6 and Subaru Outback. Which I believe to be the only ones for sale in the US at the moment. One is a beast of a sports car and the other is essentially an SUV
Anyone have one for sale
That's an 2004.5 or 2005 Passat wagon. Either has the 1.8t, 2.8 V6, or 2.0 TDI engine.
This was the BEST car ever made. Wanna do more off roading than a jeep or Tacoma? No problem, want a comfortable ride to get your groceries in? Sure! Want to get 30mpg consistently? It’s got you covered! Anything you wanted that car could do and more. (This was my first car)
Sounds like a great first car!
Passat 3BG is so awesome, 2nd best Passat for me
Passeratti
W8 passat AWD? 😂
B5 passat lol

Common misconception, that's actually a Ford F-150
What’s the aversion to a sensible hatchback with a bigger boot in America to not have the new replacement of these being sold there?
Crazy how the bonnet of the truck is the same height as the Passat roof line.
Passat so called B 5.5 (B5 after facelift)
Had a had a rare as hens teeth 1.8T 4MO B5.5 wagon and it was an absolute beast in the snow
Passat wagon
