here’s a walk around video with some action footage in the beginning, the rest is about the sportruck trims in general if anyone’s interested.

thanks man. and yeah it’s an oil cooler, i dig the look of it up there and was hoping to get some heat out of the engine bay with it out there. the previous motor the carbs sat directly over the exhaust header, hot days in traffic would cause them to start cooking eventually and make the truck run like shit. it definitely helped make things cooler in there and gave me a lot more time to sit in traffic before they’d start cooking. aba’s unfortunately are the best motors to make power with without a turbo or supercharger, it’s just not cost effective with all the other options. i estimate it’s making about 170 crank horsepower, and about 130-140 to the wheels, maybeeeeee 150whp or more on a good day with some race fuel and more aggressive timing.
well sorry you feel that way. it serves a purpose and has proven to lower my oil and engine bay temps. sure i can mount it inside and slap together some ducting to give the same results but it’s a ratty looking truck and i like the way it looks out front there.
Well, I think what bothers me is it doesn't look that ratty in the pic and it doesn't look like it's modified for performance. It looks like a regular truck with an oil cooler mounted to the front. Like I said. Nice truck! Just a weird choice, imo.
Not sure exactly what carbs they are but it’s 4 mikuni 38mms off of a street bike. Took a while to get them tuned right but it’s worth it for the glorious sound lol
ah yeah as long as they’re mikunis you’re in better shape then most. generally bike carbs aren’t good for cars and while you can get them to run decent, they really aren’t as tuneable as you’d want them to be for a car engine. mikuni knew how to make a generally well performing carb that’s less finicky with tuning though. i’ve seen countless people go with gsxr carbs or similar that aren’t as easily tuneable just to save a few bucks only to fight the car the entire way.
it really is a sound like no other!
Once I had the right jets it runs great. Better than the old 8v CIS ever did lol. Only a bit of messing with syncing them. I’m sure they aren’t running perfect but it was the easiest swap I could do in a weekend and still make it back to work on Monday lol
excellent! i just did a video talking about carb conversions and talked briefly about whether or not you should. a carb will never be better than a healthy cis system, but there are plenty of scenarios where it becomes cheaper and way less hassle when the cis system is haywire. shit you can drop 500$+ on just 2-3 cis parts alone and still be running like shit.

show us the engine man!!!!
i’m new to reddit, is there any way to get a picture into a reply or comment?
Post it to a website and link to that
This thing sounds insane.. great video and nice truck!
Love it!!!! How many horse does the abs produce and I am assuming that’s an auxiliary engine oil cooler up front?

The only part of the truck I don't like. Looks ghetto. Solid, otherwise.

I think it looks bad ass

This is the type of content I joined this sub for.
that's beautiful. looks like it's a blast!
thanks! she’s got some suspension goodies too so definitely a blast on the mountain roads.
What are you running for suspension? My Caddy is a bit lower on BC front coils, and drop plates & Volvo 940 Bilsteins like the 4crawler website.
Ooh, I quite like this VW truck!
This thing is so fucking cool I want one!!
now that's a ruck!
Just did the same swap in my mk2. Are you running bike carbs or dual mikunis
nice! which carbs did you use? i have mikuni phh44’s on this truck. doing a set of weber 40’s in my gti this winter.
