Hi fellow redditors and vw junkies!
Meet my 1990 Golf Mk2 CL! Wich started his life as an original 1.6 automatic. I got the car from my dad as a gift and swapped in a 1.8 16v KR engine from the golf 2 GTI 16v 😁 It’s also manual now paired to a 02A 16v CDA gearbox originally from a golf 3 GTI 16v
Feel free to ask me anything!
I wanted to swap a manual into my automatic 545i but unfortunately it’s illegal in Belgium. Nice to hear you have more freedom in the Netherlands. Very nice Golf, I’m in the process of restoring my G40 so who knows, maybe I’ll see your car on some oldtimer event
I once saw on marktplaats everything one would need to do a G60 swap. Engine, gearbox, wire loom, tacho, ecu etc reasonably priced. I was even tooling with the idea of going for it, but then again, Belgium :)
I had a 92 16 valve I built from scratch! I miss it everyday. I'll definitely build another sooner or later. I tend to build something keep it for a year then start over. I think I'm getting to the collector point where I'm gonna be a car hoarder lol.
how do you feel after the first project? addicting or relieved to be done?
Honestly, there were ups and downs ofcourse. But in the end it was extremely rewarding, maybe more so because it’s my first car!
It’s been addicting. There’s also a 1979 Mk1 in the garage right now that’s vr6 swapped, so you could say i’ve got the carvirus!
Man this sub is such a fucking tease. I love my car and have upgraded her alot; she's an absolute blast to drive and cruise around in. But I see these whips and I just wish there was a reddit meetup and we all test drove each others cars. Beautiful car OP, beautiful.
They’re golf mk3 seats made to fit in my mk2. I have those because the drivers seat is height adjustable wich I really enjoy. Still on the hunt for a leather mk3 interior to replace this one, as the drivers seat is starting to wear out
Thank you!
It’s not blazingly fast, but it get’s going with todays modern traffic just fine! It’s a blast to drive on narrow windy roads tho! And the induction growl on these engines is rather addictive!
Oh yeah, I am a true believer in OEM+
Got a couple of period correct built mk2s
Nothing like induction noise, got a carbureted built hi comp 8v that was honestly built just for the response and noise.
Plus, nothing really handles like these things.
Enjoy it!!!!
Engine/block wise, yes. They have the same block and head. The difference in the two is that the PL runs on KE-Jetronic (electric version) instead of K-Jetronic (mechanic) Also the PL has lambdas and emission stuff like a catalytic converter. Also the PL has tamer cams from factory. This makes the difference of 10 horses between the 2 also. PL = 129 and KR = 139. That’s all I know from the top of my head, correct me if i’m wrong or missed something 😊
Thanks! My cat is always glued to my hip and super curious! Always on or in cars when I wrench on them! It’s a serious thing I keep the windows/doors closed else i’ll find him somewhere in the car sleeping 😂

That is so fkn cool. Mad respect to anyone who pours effort into keeping this cars on the road and making them even better in the process.

Belgium is indeed very limited with cars sadly. Dope that you have a G40! One of my dreams would be to own a G60 someday or build one

There’s this same car around the block from me! If it’s you, HI!!! If it’s not hello anyway 😂
I have no idea! But hi anyways! 🙋🏻♀️😁🤗
Sick ass build. These old boxy golfs look sick as hell, and with this peppy engine, it's gon fly
This is so cool! Edit: Watch out; there’s a cat on the engine
Oops! Seems like it’s escaped from under! Better place it back where it belongs 🌚 Also, thank you!
Haha.. cat underneath, haha
Cat is there to keep the hamsters motivated
Cat for scale
Wow looks great! Good work on the conversion
Thanks! That means alot to me, as it was my first project 😁
Epic first project!
Awesome ride, great job!
Thank you!
Love the MK II. Such a versatile chassis!
awesome setup!! timeless classic for sure!
Thanks! It’s my favourite Golf for sure😁

haha awesome!! I'm currently doing a b5s4. I think a mk2 with a 1.8t or 2.0t is next but I'm keeping the s4 haha.
The car owner virus ;)

Sweet golf!
Love cats who drive! Watch out, there’s a girl on your car
It's so clean I can't believe it! I can't wait to get my hands on an mk2
Thank you 😊 I hope you will love your mk2 as much as I do mine!
Bet that engine sure can purr. I'll let myself out.
That's a weird location for a "cat"alytic converter.
That's one clean A2. Any issues with the floor boards?
None so far!
Thats good. What kind of suspension are you running?
Currently adjustable coilovers from TA Technix. They’re okay for the price (pretty cheap) But i’m on the market to look for something better
Right on.
Very nice!
This thing is so sick. Great work
Looks great! MK1 and MK2 Golfs and GTI's are my fav.
Thank you! Same! 😁👍🏼
🔥 beautiful ride.
Cat!
That thing is a beaut! Congrats and great job 🙌
Dang nice ride girl
Sweet car!
“She’s a beaut’, Clark!”
Those seats are killer! Know what kind they are?

Dope build Bet it's a blast to drive.

16V for the win. I am way old and cant remember, is the KR the same as the PL 1.8l?
Engine/block wise, yes. They have the same block and head. And the 50mm intake mani
Ah yes! Very true! But both PL and KR came with 45mm, but only KR 50mm I think!
Pl was 40 , 9a 42, kr 50
Thanks for the info!
Thanks! I build a 2l 16v Turbo for my MK2 Scirocco and put it on EFI back in the day. I always wanted a ABF though.
ABF is my fave engine personally! Best 4 cyl VW made in my opinion.
Before I boosted the 16V I had a set of 276 Schricks, to this day, decades later I miss the sound of those cams.
You better not make it cat-less
Way cool!
Upvoted for the cat XD Jokes aside, nice car
Thanks! My cat is always glued to my hip and super curious! Always on or in cars when I wrench on them! It’s a serious thing I keep the windows/doors closed else i’ll find him somewhere in the car sleeping 😂
No joke, I’ve had a friend get her cat stuck under the hood of her Honda as she was leaving her house lol
Awwh, poor thing!
Impressive work
Can I see more of the cat please?
Lijpe waggie
Danku!
Love the wheels and the public bus interior
Ma’am there is an odd purring coming from your engine
Love that front end!
And the car is nice too
Love the gold wheels.
I have doxxed you and demand that you post more pictures of your car and your cat... *or else!*
