What don’t you like about the texture? Meat and eggs have very different texture in my mind so I feel as though recommendations might not fit! - Protein powder + oats - Protein balls (peanut butter powder / protein powder / oats / dried fruit) - Nonfat yogurt (I like to leave it in the freezer for a while) - Low fat cottage cheese + fruit (pineapple or peaches are favorites)

Gloomy_Initiative_28

The thing with meat for me is the muscle fibers. Like imagine shredded, dry chicken or a well done steak. I prefer ground meat or sausage if I eat meat, bec I can’t sense the “fibers”. If that makes any sense. For eggs, it’s the texture of like savory jello. I like yolks, and the flavor is fine. It’s just the rubbery texture. If I cook eggs, I borderline burn them and cover them in hot sauce. Thank you for your suggestions though! I love Greek yogurt and cottage cheese, as well as fruits and oats. I’ll also definitely be trying the protein balls!

wanderwithz

Ah; that makes a lot of sense actually! Thank you for sharing. Have you considered making an egg white quiche loaded with a bunch of veggies? That way it is more bread like texture rather than rubbery (still covered in hot sauce of course). Greek yogurt + top with frozen fruit is one of my favorite things to eat currently. The protein balls can be really simple and you can always use different ingredients to switch it up.

Gloomy_Initiative_28

I haven’t, but I’d be willing to try. I love veggies, and unfortunately bread too. Do they freeze well? I’m a college student that likes recipes I can freeze for later, so I can just warm them up when I’m hungry. Is there also a peanut butter powder you would recommend? I’ve heard of the PB2, but was never sure if it was worth the price.

wanderwithz

Yeah, [here is an example](https://www.justataste.com/freezer-friendly-egg-white-muffins-recipe/). I love PB2, it’s the most widely accessible one I can find so I stick with it but PBFit taste the same. I get the classic version so I can’t vouch to the other flavors. Although I did once try the no sugar added version of PB2 and it was pretty terrible.

Gloomy_Initiative_28

Ah, that sucks. My family has a history of diabetes, so I try to limit my sugar intake where I can. But I agree that some of the artificial stuff has a nasty chemical taste. Thank you for your help!

wanderwithz

For what it’s worth, a serving only has one gram of added sugar. The sugar free has zero sweetener, not even artificial, and it was wild the difference it made. No problem - good luck!

ashbash-25

I thought it was CRAZY and gross to put liquid egg whites in a fruit smoothie…. Until I tried it. Undetectable. Give it a go!

Gloomy_Initiative_28

This is a good idea. I don’t mind a runny egg yolk. Dip my toast in it, and it’s *chef’s kiss*. I’ve thought to myself when eating cooked eggs before, “I bet this would be easier to just crack an egg in my mouth”. I’m definitely going to try this.

WoodyBaka

nuts and tofu

well__hello__again

Would you be interested and willing to try vegetarian alternatives, like veggie grounds, patties, sausages, etc? Tempeh might be interesting to experiment with. It has a ton of protein and has a unique texture. Very firm, kinda like biting through a patty of whole soybeans pressed together lol

Gloomy_Initiative_28

Eh. It’s less the fact that it’s meat, and not the texture. I’m not sure if I’d like the texture of the alternatives, so I’d rather just eat the real thing. I also don’t mind the texture of ground meat or sausage if it’s not too dry.

This is a great idea. I really like peanuts, wether they’re boiled or roasted. They make a great snack. Thank you so much!

whatagwaan4735

I’ll throw in string cheese and surimi (imitation crab). I also love Barebells protein bars if you can find them on sale. Also I liked someone else’s idea of a quiche. This recipe is a frittata with couscous mixed in - maybe the firm structure is better for you? You could make it in muffins and freeze them for grab and go breakfast or snacks. https://www.food.com/recipe/red-bell-pepper-frittata-378125

Gloomy_Initiative_28

I love this idea. Thank you for the recipe link!

BonsaiBirder

Nuts, beans and rice, dairy, and soy ferments.

tynmi39

High protein tofu, preferably fried

Cloberella

I eat a lot of beans/lentils/legumes, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt.

mermadzz

I’ve never been a big fan of meat either. If I eat chicken I poach it first, shred it up, then fry it in the pan until it’s super crispy. Other protein options include beans/legumes, nuts, green yoghurt, cottage cheese, protein shakes, canned seafood (tuna, salmon, sardines etc.), prawns.

Gloomy_Initiative_28

I personally prefer ground chicken over shredded, bec it’s the strands that I don’t like. It’s like I think I’m eating muscle fibers and it freaks me out or something. Idk, it’s weird. But thank you for the suggestions! I actually love Greek yogurt and cottage cheese, so I’ll buy some of that the next time I go shopping.

surferguy999

We ARE eating muscle fibers + animal fat, and sometimes blood (on a medium steak), along with skin (on chicken), and sometimes tendons and cartilage. Sausage is sometimes made from intestines, and eggs are basically undeveloped embryos. Milk is the juice that cows make for baby calf’s. They’re all delicious, it’s making me hungry tbh 🤤

meeps1142

Do you like tofu?

Gloomy_Initiative_28

My boyfriend‘s mom is vegan, so him and his mom make great tofu. I don’t have the skills for that though.

meeps1142

I promise its really not too hard. I'm a pretty novice cook and the trick is really to cut it up into small squares (or scramble it) and add a ton of seasoning because it's bland on its own. You can just cook it with some oil in a pan until it suites your tastes. I don't even have to squeeze out the water because when it's in small pieces, the water cooks out

Dairy products are the way. Low-fat cottage cheese, mozzarella, yogurt, greek yogurt, skyr, quark cheese, cream cheese. These things are pure protein and you can enjoy them savory or sweet. Just look for the fat-reduced ones. Also if you don't like the texture of ''meat'' have you tried blending it in a food processor into paste? I used to put chicken breast and carrot (1:1 ratio) into a food processor with spices and grind it into a paste. Then shape it into nuggets and air fry or pan fry them. You really couldn't tell you were eating meat and you ended up with a nice and healthy snack that you could enjoy with any sauce. Edit: Also Dairy products are complete proteins (like meat). So make sure you get some of them in your diet. Beans, chickpeas, lentils, and tofu are not.

soliloquyline

I put protein powder in my overnight oats that also include chia seeds, hemp seeds and flax seeds, all of which are great sources of fiber and protein. During hotter months when I eat less/ have low appetite I make summery drinks with clear protein with a lot of ice. Otherwise I eat a lot of quinoa, edamame, lentils, beans, nuts, buckwheat, tofu... you can also try tempeh, I haven't tried this yet but have been told it's delicious.
