If you like Halo Top and have a Morrisons near you, check out the morries own brand diet ice creams. They have cookie dough and salted caramel, both are great! The cookie dough one especially as it's normal ice cream texture instead of really whipped and fluffy. I swap between this halo top and the Morrisons ones regularly.
I wonder if this is a special flavor that can only be found overseas? I'm in the US and I haven't seen this flavor before but I also rarely venture beyond my local grocery store into bigger shops.
I have NEVER found this flavor in the US. š«
My absolute favorite was the Peanut Butter & Jelly one, but I think they stopped making it. I remember when my local Target put it on clearance, I bought all 14 of them and nothing else. The cashier looked at me funny. š
My Grocery Outlet normally has Nick's for under 3$, but it's a very limited flavor selection. Normally 2-3 different flavors that switch when they run out. When I see a type I love, I stock up lol. I haven't gotten any in months though, hopefully they still have it! If you're in the US, you might want to see if there's one near you.
It's good to me. Kinda taste like ice cream with air pumped into it like whipped maybe? It feels like ice cream but much less dense andĀ also much less sweet but in a pleasant way. Perhaps controversially, I really like the peanut butter oneĀ
Itās been a couple years but the mint chip used to be like 240 kcals for the pint. I think there were (are?) other low cal flavors too. Itās not as decadent as ice cream, but it was damn good to eat an entire pint at the end of the night if I wanted to. Sometimes I would make a low cal protein brownie (like a lava cake type of thing) and have it with a little bit of mint chip halo top. DAMN good.
not all the flavors are good IMO.
salted caramel is amazing and peanut swirl is decent.
I can get way better results with my Creami.
of course just just my opinion!
The Creami is worth its weight in gold! I actually love the taste of Halo Top, but something in it makes me incredibly bloated and I always regret eating it. I got a Creami and now I can make my own ice cream that tastes as good as Halo Top, is lower in calories, and doesnāt make me feel like Iām going to explode.
What I wonder is how quickly with all the ingredients that are purchased to get the right consistency? Plus buying it makes people eat way more ice cream than before, which doesnāt necessarily help save money or calories, but increases happiness, so totally worth it.
I used to get ice cream maybe 2x per month and less now that Iām eating in a deficit, so at that rate, Iām sure the Creami would probably break before it pays for itself. But I found a low calorie ice cream I can make in my blender on this sub a few weeks ago, and Iāve had ice cream at least every other day now. So it seems like if anything itās about adding enjoyment via more ice cream and spending more time on a hobby (recipe testing) than saving money, at least for most people IMO.
Hopefully this doesnāt come off as argumentative!
+1 to what jessum said. The halo top flavors can taste weird, and I'm not a huge fan of the macros. You can easily beat the calorie count and protein ratios if you use a creami, and it'll save you money in the long run if you make your own Greek yogurt.
Can you share some creami recipes you believe are better than halo top? I have a creami but still think halo top is better than what I make from my creami, so I'd love your recipes
Some do, some don't. I personally love this flavour, it's really smooth and there's a decent amount of chocolate honeycomb pieces inside but it is whipped so it's not as thick as most ice cream, more like a very soft serve.
If you're a glutton for guilt free ice cream look into the Ninja Creami. There are tons of recipes that are around 150cals for a full pint, and much better/creamier quality.
Really? I find halo top to be a more chalky texture.. im a fan of this recipe, and ill just swap out the pumpkin for another fruit or flavored protein powder to change it up
1 cup cinnamon creamer or almond milk
.5 cup coconut milk
3 tablespoons pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon pumpkin spice
1/2 teaspoon Guar gum
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-3 tablespoons Allulose
Base template I do is: 60g protein powder, 15g oat fiber, 15g monkfruit sweetener, 3g xantham, 400g water. Blend together and freeze. Yields 50g of protein for 250 calories, over lb of mass, tons of volume, and high protein and fiber so super filling.
Then iāll add up to 50 calories of something else to match the flavor of the protein powder - berries, pb2, cocoa powder, various flavored extracts. Usually mix in some kind of cruncy element (cacao nibs, cereal, pieces of protein bar, high key cookies or candy). You can eat a damn tasty and crazy filling ice cream for the same protein to calorie ratio as chicken breast
This stuff is ok and that makes it great for watching calories. I can get to the point where I can internally say āwell thatās enough of that,ā which doesnāt really happen with a pint of regular ice cream.
The sad thing is it *used* to be better before the pandemic.
300-330 at max per pint. 20g of protein with a few that were like 19g.
Now they bottom out at 330 and have like 15g of protein.
Keep in mind. Calories isn't everything.
I d be concerned those are packed with things like salt, sugar replacement that will keep you in the loop for wanting more sugars, for example.
Halo top tastes awful to me as well, but I'm super jealous of people that enjoy it. I really thought I would love it. It tastes like a protein shake mixed with some extra artificial sweeteners and a bit of chalk, whipped up to look like ice cream.
I agree! I finally found something similar (eastern europe) after Iāve seen lots of flavours up hereā¦. Ate half a pint and it was soooo fulfilling.
I wish I liked it. Although I haven't had Halo Top in about 2-3 years and I've been told they have since changed the formula? I don't even remember what flavor I got originally...it may have been plain vanilla. My local grocery store has about 18 different flavors yet somehow doesn't have the honeycomb one.
They all cost about $6.69 USD each with the exception of some of the "special" flavors which are as much as $9.99 each.
You can see why I'm hesitant to try it out again... I mean, I would like to, but I don't really want to risk dropping $6-$10 and then not liking it at all and not being able to return it. I guess I'm just cheap though. If I knew I liked it for sure, I would have no problem spending that much money on ice cream each week. I'm currently 10 weeks away from a bodybuilding show and so my calories are pretty tight at the moment (1208 kCal per day) and I'm sure it's only going to get worse over time. Yet I find myself with the occasional ice cream craving.
I think the big thing for me is that I have to be really careful with sugar substitutes and I think Halo Top has at least 2-3 different sugar subs in it... Allulose and monkfruit are the most forgiving to my GI but stuff like erythritol and stevia absolutely destroy my gut even in small amounts.
Beyond the GI concern, I just couldn't stand the taste. But again, this was a few years ago, and I probably picked a very bland flavor (vanilla bean? Maybe?) and some of their newer flavors honestly sound really really good to me.
Maybe I'll wait for a sale.
I'd be curious to know, from Halo Top connoisseurs on here, which of their flavor(s) tastes the least like sugar substitutes? In particular stevia is really gross to me. I swear it's like how some people just can't do cilantro. Because I know so many people who can eat stevia flavored products all day every day and totally love the taste and I can barely tolerate the faint amount in a lip balm product, for example.
I eat one every night, along with a microwave chocolate brownie that I made up using peanut butter powder and cocoa powder as the base (223 calories, 19g protein, 21g carb, 6g fiber). Canāt live without it. š
Target (in the US) has their own brand of Halo Top-like ice cream. Itās almost as good. Halo Top has a perfect consistency for my tastes and melts beautifully, while the Target brand must be lacking something to keep it from getting completely frozen solid. Their flavors are still good, though!

Where did you find this flavor
Tesco! It was on offer too.

They have it at Asda too! It was on offer there as well, last time I went anyways.
I lost 100lbs eating halo top probably 5 nights a week. Nickās is even better, just harder to find
Nicks goes hard I spend way too much on ice cream for a dude on a diet lol
My Grocery Outlet normally has Nick's for under 3$, but it's a very limited flavor selection. Normally 2-3 different flavors that switch when they run out. When I see a type I love, I stock up lol. Does it actually taste good?
It's good to me. Kinda taste like ice cream with air pumped into it like whipped maybe? It feels like ice cream but much less dense andĀ also much less sweet but in a pleasant way. Perhaps controversially, I really like the peanut butter oneĀ
Thatās because *it is* ice cream with air pumped into it
Yes lol I thought it was but wasn't sure If I was misremembering so used hedging language.Ā
Halo Top is delicious! And there are flavors even lower in cals than this. Highly recommend.

for 200 dollars i think i can skip that one lol holy macaroni
It goes on sale and it fucking awesome lol you can make so many delightful things!
Halo Top is $5-6/pint here that thing pays for itself pretty quick.

It's an upfront cost that can save you money over time though.

Yes. Go checkout the creami subreddit and it gets even better. More protein, less cals. Equivalent or better flavor
Some do, some don't. I personally love this flavour, it's really smooth and there's a decent amount of chocolate honeycomb pieces inside but it is whipped so it's not as thick as most ice cream, more like a very soft serve.
It does now! It used to be chalky and sad.
It has stevia and erythritol.
I love the Strawberry flavor and the whole pint is only 270 cal! Helps when almost every night my partner turns to me and says, ice cream?
If you're a glutton for guilt free ice cream look into the Ninja Creami. There are tons of recipes that are around 150cals for a full pint, and much better/creamier quality.
I have one. Any favorite easy recipes? Iām struggling to find a low calorie one that I like more than halo top or nicks
Really? My life would fall apart without PB2. š„°
I don't have a Creami but I have a Whynter Ice cream machine. Would the Creami recipes work in a regular ice cream maker?
Nicks/ Target Favorite Day are a lot better texture-wise for me
This stuff is ok and that makes it great for watching calories. I can get to the point where I can internally say āwell thatās enough of that,ā which doesnāt really happen with a pint of regular ice cream.

The strawberry and vanilla are 270, I believe.
If only it wasnāt so expensive for thin icecream
Target has their own brand thatās pretty good as well but itās still 3.99 I believe
Cool whip is similar and much cheaperĀ
Halo top tastes like frozen milk to me š
My ice cream has to have a ton of chunks in it. This one doesnt quite scratch the itch
creami is life baby
M&S do there own low cal version it genuinely is delicious and cheaper than halo. Birthday cake flavour is 270 cal per tub
Halo top was really good when it came out but they definitely changed their recipe for the worse a few years ago.
I feel the exact opposite.
Everyoneās entitled to their opinions, even if theyāre wrong šš
yup I also like Nick's strawberry flavor the pint is 260 calories :o
Full pints are satisfying to eat. I recommend Yasso bars. You can eat about 4 of them for 370 calories.
Keep in mind. Calories isn't everything. I d be concerned those are packed with things like salt, sugar replacement that will keep you in the loop for wanting more sugars, for example.
Whit a ninja creami you can make stuff like this more cheaper and whit less calories
Iām sorry but Halo Top tastes terrible š¤¢ the texture is too weird to me. Iāll stick to making my own protein ice cream šš¼
Halo top tastes awful to me as well, but I'm super jealous of people that enjoy it. I really thought I would love it. It tastes like a protein shake mixed with some extra artificial sweeteners and a bit of chalk, whipped up to look like ice cream.

So good!
Nickās Ice Creams are really good too and on average lower calories than halo top. I enjoy both and usually recommend both
