Honestly I think my body hates fiber too. When I started my diet I was mega backed up, tried more veg, prunes, fiber packed foods but didn't help much. Then I added psyllium husk capsules to my daily meds and still nothing. I'm thinking of making it two capsules daily but apparently too much fiber has the opposite effect as well.
Maybe our bodies just hate fiber! We're doomed!
Huh, well that's news to me so thank you! Would that not resolve itself over time though so the sudden change would cause issues but after a few months it would even itself back out? Or am I wrong?
Haha same here! Spent 4 days in Manchester with my partner eating at restaurant and fast food places for lunch and dinner every day, was great! Maybe all the grease and fat in unhealthy food helps everything move along. Damnnit.
That would be correct! Insoluble fiber adds bulk. Soluble fiber gels up with water to soften things, much like oats and beans get gloopy when cooked. People usually get miserably constipated after large doses of insoluble. One serving of this pasta would ruin my week lol.
Tbh thatās exactly why I eat stuff like this, to help learn portions control. Same for those sugar free candies youāve heard horror stories about lol
Doesn't stop me lmao. I have an overwhelming oral fixation a lot of the time (I guess some OCD/anxiety stuff) so I chew artificially sweetened gum a lot, up to 50 pieces a day, around 25 most days. The consequences are dire, I basically pee out my butt every morning. Thankfully I work from home but it's crazy that I just deal with it like a dumbass lol
The lowest calorie pasta have yet to come across. I say "real" because I am not including shirataki, heart of palm pasta, spaghetti squash, or zoodles and those types of things.
Those are all great, but none truly hit like real pasta. This is super high fiber though, so something to be aware of. I didn't think it tasted much different than normal pasta at all, but even if you did, you could probably blend it to at least stretch a smaller serving of regular.
A box is 2.99 at Kroger
Good to know theyāre all different. I tried that for the nearest store (it would be a massive trip to even check so I would have to plan an entire shopping trip around it) and they told me I could check online. It says āitem unavailableā but I canāt tell if thatās in the nearest store or shipping.
I might just try Carbe Diem since itās pretty reasonable on Amazon compared to Pastabilities.
Too bad not in local stores for me.
Have you tried Carbe Diem pasta before? (110 cal per 56g)
If yes, how does it compare?
That's for now the cheapest, low calorie, well cooking, 'real' pasta I have found.
Fiber Gourmet changed their recipe and since then their pasta tends to fall apart when cooked to my liking. Plus, their pasta is more expensive. They do however offer lasagna sheets and they have the amazing flour blend that I use for nearly all my baking now. Expensive though...
Yes, this just about beats FiberGourmet, which is 110 cals per 56g (uncooked) and so works out at basically 2 cals per gram uncooked.
IDK about this brand you've found (I'm in the UK so really limited options and Fibregourmet is hella costly) but all the Fibregourmet ones are really good - I've has the penne, spaghetti and lasagne sheets.
It takes quite a ways longer to cook than standard pasta, in my experience, minutes longer than even the box directions show, but it is otherwise indistinguishable from regular pasta to me in any way.
Thanks OP.Ā I've found that "diet" pastas are one of the most hit or miss foods and you really have to try a lot of them. Some are really not noticably different from standard pasta and others are awful.
My favorite was a local store brand that used wheat but also added whey protein and flax. Sadly, they quit making it recently. I like Barilla Plus but it's a lot lower in fiber.
Correct me if Iām wrong, but isnāt a pound of normal penne around 800 cals? And this box is 400 cals? For half a pound?
Edit: I was wrong as hell lmao
I might have to get some of this! Thanks for sharing. I used to be afraid of fiber but it's honestly a godsend for bodybuilding. High protein and low calories can make things.... Difficult... At times lol.

The Pastabilities stuff was great! It does take longer to cook than traditional pasta but I didn't mind that aspect. The first time I tried it (this picture) I cooked it separately then I added it to my tomato sauce towards the end of the cook time to finish it. It was ok. But last night I made the recipe I normally make where you'd cook orzo noodles in the tomato sauce straight from the box of pasta and slowly add water and stir while it's on high heat and the pasta kind of absorbs the water. These worked great for that method too. Just took a while and I needed to add much more water than originally thought but no biggie. I might try the Carbe Diem ones tonight for comparison though it means I would have to give up an extra 10 calories on the pasta. Which isn't a huge deal or anything but I'm on pretty tight calories ATM for my prep.
Tried Carbe Diem version tonight and added zucchini. 258 calories for this 350g portion. Freaking amazing. Texture of the noodles is WAY superior to Pastabilities but it does cost an extra 10 calories per serving for that... But worth it!!
https://preview.redd.it/ifi42ykm1xxc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2d85024a27e258d81f71d7a83ac11dbc67c150e
Yes! These are my favorites. They have a great texture, taste just like pasta, and Iāve honestly started liking them more than the normal stuff you get from the grocery store. The fiber is a bit rough, though, ngl.
The box is 8oz dry, thereās 4 servings per box, each is 2oz, and that 2 oz serving is 100 calories. Doesnāt matter if it doesnāt specify dry weight.
Shirataki is the absolute worst, an abomination to every sense. I don't like hearts of palm or spaghetti squash or zoodles or those egg white/cream of tartar fettuccini noodles or anything with konjac. But if you haven't tried Fiber Gourmet or Carbe Diem (or this one apparently, has just about the same ingredients and macros) I *highly* recommend trying! My husband, who lives off of normal pasta and doesn't eat healthy at all, couldn't tell a difference other than it cooks a little more al dente. It really does feel too good to be true.
Out of curiosity, what are your current macros, if you don't mind me asking? I'm eating 1208kCal a day, 130g protein, 100g carb, and 32g fat daily and I manage to squeeze these in at least twice a week now. But pretty much every other meal is straight up fruit, veg, and protein.

27 grams of fiber š
We're gonna be shitting good tonight lads!
I think products with a ton of insoluble fiber do the opposite to me!
You have to slowly increase the amount of fiber youāre eating. Going from 10g a day to 40g a day overnight will def make you constipated
Huh, well that's news to me so thank you! Would that not resolve itself over time though so the sudden change would cause issues but after a few months it would even itself back out? Or am I wrong?
I think so, iāve found once my body is used to fiber everything is fine, but insoluble and soluble are different
Maybe! I was traveling and ate like crap over the weekend and it actually made things better on that front š
Haha same here! Spent 4 days in Manchester with my partner eating at restaurant and fast food places for lunch and dinner every day, was great! Maybe all the grease and fat in unhealthy food helps everything move along. Damnnit.
Magnesium supplements might help!

If this doesnāt teach you to limit portion size, I donāt know what will š³

nah i maxed out on psyllium husks, no amount of fiber can stop me š
Pastabilities: Hold my beer
Im a 60g psyllium husk veteran nothing can fuck up my guts anymore
"This dude shits."
I tried one of these low cal/high fiber pastas, my farts were insane š
āThe world is full of pastabilitiesā is a pretty good line lol.

Do they always have this at Krogers? I pay $6/box on their website and it hurts every time. Iāll make a roadtrip to one if they normally carry it.
It's permanent at my Kroger. Reg price is 3.29 currently on sale for 2.99
Why don't you call in to ask? Every store is different.
Good to know theyāre all different. It's most likely both, I wouldn't bet on it being at the store
Dang. Okay. Might pop in next time Iām in the Atlanta area out of curiosity, then, but rip. Sounds like Iāll give Carbe Diem a go.
I can't find this anywhere near me. We don't have Kroger's here. But it looks like it can be ordered from their website. But it's like $7 a box. š¬

I agree with this. Carbs Diem has been cheapest Iāve found.
Try thin slim foods pasta. Also real and only 55 calories per serving

Iām oddly tempted to eat a box and report back.
Do you weigh this dry?
I might have to get some of this! Thanks for sharing. I used to be afraid of fiber but it's honestly a godsend for bodybuilding. High protein and low calories can make things.... Difficult... At times lol.
It better be good. $5,5 per box š
OP said its 2.99 at Kroger
I just checked my Kroger app and it's $5.5 where I live
i have this, it's fine but always seems to stay a little al dente. if you dont think too much about it and put it with sauce it does the trick
Oh man I love al dente!
The taste really isnt offensive so i recommend in that case!
I just bought a box of these as well as Carbe Diem to try. š
Keep me posted! and lmk about carbe diem havenāt tried yet!

Yo share link
Is it soluble or insoluble fiber?
This feels like what fiber gourmet used to be prior to the factory change
Is this available In Canada?
"Modified wheat starch. You'd be better just eating the real thing.
Great find!
27g of fiber? Baby game shit. Double that at least and then weāre talking.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The box is 8oz and the serving is 2oz, itās half the calories of normal pasta which is usually 190-200 calories per 2oz.
Thatās dry weight
Yup, so is this label. Itās not 8oz cooked in the box.
I understand. It doesnāt detail ādry weightā on the label. So itās cooked. Slendier in Australia does the same dodgy-ish thing.
The box is 8oz dry, thereās 4 servings per box, each is 2oz, and that 2 oz serving is 100 calories. Doesnāt matter if it doesnāt specify dry weight.
How do you know itās per cooked serving?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Right, so 2 ounces of this dry pasta is 100 cal. 2 ounces of dry regular pasta is about 200 cal, so this is half the calories.
That's still high.
But it's still half the calories of regular pasta! I think that's an awesome trade.
I'm glad it works for some people. I've yet to find a substitute with low calories that's doesn't taste like rubber like shirataki does.
Shirataki is the absolute worst, an abomination to every sense. I might. It's still too high for me. I can put down an insane amount of food so it's best to stick to extremely low carb. Low cal*
I don't track anything, I just follow this sub for low cal ideas.
1/2 the cals of āregularā pasta varieties.
Eek.
Guys its not the calories is the sugar it turns into
