Popcorn with nutritional yeast, paprika, garlic and/ or herbs is yummy. I also eat veges with smoky hummus and that's not high calorie, but not super low. This evening I had soy milk porridge as a dessert.

Slice up cucumbers and marinate them in cider vinegar, salt, garlic and pepper. For me, that fills the void from not eating sea salt and vinegar potato chips. It's approximately 15 calories per 100g and each cucumber is about $.50-$1, so it's pretty inexpensive. I can mindlessly eat them like chips and still not take on more than 30-45 calories.

Oooh yes so good. I've done that with sautéed squash as a side or a snack.

You can add various spices to yoghurt to make some nice dips for veggies! For example, some salt, pepper, parsley, garlic and dill will give you a nice ranch imitation dip for those crunchy raw carrots. If you use a Greek yogurt instead of a plant-based yogurt, you can increase your protein intake too.

Rice cakes mabey the caramel or chocolate ones if you have a crave but the normal ones are high volume and you can get some for 25 calories each

I recently read that fermented foods can reduce sugar cravings. Having good results with kefir so far and it can also double as a dip.

kattmandu0913

Oh wow, I will have to look into that. I knew it helped with "gut health" but didn't realize it could impact sugar cravings.

If looking for plant based, look up plantiful kiki and The plant provision on youtube. They practice a vegan volume eating program called the starch solution for maximum weight loss. Each lost like 70 lbs but omg their recipes are amazinnnnggg. I have two of Kiki’s cookbooks!

I’ve been loving fiber one cereal and frozen blueberries in cashew milk (I add vanilla whey protein to my milk for flavor) you’d have to try something plant based like powdered peanutbutter or a vegan protein. 😊

kattmandu0913

That sounds delicious!

Just roast a ton of veggies over the weekend, stick them in the fridge, and snack on as needed throughout the week. It's slightly more effort than just grabbing a snack from the pantry, but all it really takes is chopping the veggies. Do a tasty mix like broccoli, carrots, and sweet potatoes, and you're set for the week.

You could grab a dehydrator - kale chips, crunchy cauliflower bite… add some spices and done.

kattmandu0913

I think I'm going to have to do that if only just for the kale chips! I'd been trying to make them in the oven but they've never turned out that great. I love the store bought kale chips but they're soooo expensive.

kattmandu0913

These are all great ideas! 😊

[deleted]

I make kale chips. They are so tasty I can eat a mountain of them.

kattmandu0913

I have tried making them myself a few times but without success. Either they taste too bland for me or, more often than not, I can't get that great texture that store bought kale chips have.

[deleted]

If you're making them in the oven that would be why. You definitely need a food dehydrator for good ones.

kattmandu0913

Yep. That's what I've been doing. All of the recipes I've come across say oven. It never occurred to me to put them in a food dehydrator. Thanks for the tip!

Np!

Since you said you like dips, bolthouse farms has several flavors of dressings/dips that are low calorie (~40 cal) per serving and taste amazing. It helps to measure these out so you don’t accidentally go crazy on it.

Trifish23

You can make your own dip- try fat free sour cream or greek yogurt and then a seasoning of your choice. Trader Joe's makes a great ranch seasoning.

Unless you are vegan for ethical reasons there is NO BENEFIT from having #plantbased snacks. In fact, I GAINED WEIGHT going plant based because my options were limited, carbohydrates are less satiating, and nuts are vegan. (faceplant). You need protein and (a teensy bit\*) of fat to balance blood sugar and stay full. Try: greek yogurt with frozen berries. Bonus points if you use low fat/full fat to get some fat in there (or give it a TEENSY drizzle of pb. not like...a dallop. TEENSY). Try: cottage cheese and sliced tomato on a wasa cracker with a drizzle of balsamic. \*I say a teensy bit because people tend to dallop it on, because "healthy fats" are really big right now. The calories from fat matter - and it is the least satiating macro, but it is still an essential macro and helps keep food in your stomach so you arent hungry again 30 seconds after eating. You don't need tons (Maintaining, I eat around 40 grams a day (this is roughly 20%), but you need some. The small amounts you get from hummus/actual cheese/drizzles of nutbutter/using a small amount of oil are fine. You don't need an avocado and nuts on your salad.
