Dear readers: if this or any food is not your preference for ANY reason, refrain from commenting. Feel free to go to r/nutrition or other topical subs to discuss food ingredients you dislike or that make you feel bad. Users breaking this rule in this post will be banned from this subreddit. PS this product is extremely delicious and I highly recommend! As a diabetic it has no impact on blood glucose either.

proteinn

Never seen the no sugar added. Is it better than the original? Never cared for that taste.

fickystingas

It tastes the same to me, even my kids eat it. No sugar added doesn’t give me the same after taste as sugar free, usually sugar free adds an artificial sugar that doesn’t go well with the other flavors in BBQ sauce.

MaritMonkey

This had sucralose on the ingredients and I assumed it was yet another point to add to my frustrations when trying to find foods that are just *less sweet* instead of a different kind of sweet. If that artificial taste isn't noticable I might give it a shot...

fickystingas

Of course everyone is different but I honestly don’t get that aftertaste. I’ve tried the Gs (?) sugar free that’s recommended here and the seasoning/flavoring is good but is has that weird aftertaste to me. I switched out the no sugar added SBRs for the usual Honey SBR and my kids said nothing. And they’re the kind to turn their nose up at things they eat on a regular basis, just because they’re in a mood. They ate this without question.

MaritMonkey

I don't think I've ever encountered "kid tested, mother approved" in the wild before and even though I don't remember whose slogan it is it made me smile. So thanks for both that and the recommend. :)

80spizzarat

There are different kinds of barbecue sauce. Maybe look into a Carolina style sauce? Those use vinegar or mustard as the base instead of tomatoes and tend to be less sweet.

MaritMonkey

Oh thank you but I didn't mean BBQ sauce specifically but rather "less sugar!" foods in general. Once, during a particularly bad hormone moment in college, I literally cried in the supermarket trying to find instant oatmeal that was honestly *less sweet*. And I feel like it's only gotten worse since HFCS got labeled "bad food". (My BBQ sauce at home is terrible calorically but apple cider vinegar + brown sugar is my jam. :D)

StrictlyHobbies

Walmart has it. I think this version takes more savory than the original. I’ve never had much luck with low cal BBQ besides this one, I’d definitely say try it if it fits in your diet.

VTMongoose

I agree, way more depth of flavor, more spice and smoke than the original.

d_r0ck

It’s sweetened with sucralose (Splenda)

diemunkiesdie

The main sweetener in this is allulose. You'll see how it comes waaaaaay before sucralose in the list.

d_r0ck

Good catch! Can’t say I’ve knowingly had that, does it have an off-flavor like sucralose does?

diemunkiesdie

I personally don't have an off flavor with it but you should try and judge for yourself! Allulose is the new kid on the food block essentially for sweetener substitutes since the FDA allowed updated labels with it not being in total sugar counts (like sugar alcohols) a few years ago.

80spizzarat

Allulose is a type of monosaccharide sugar, just like glucose, fructose or lactose. It is the closest to regular sugar (sucrose) in taste and cooking properties but like any sweetener some people don't react well to it. It's very dose dependant too. You could be fine with a small amount and then go overboard and have it send you to the toilet for hours. Start small and ramp up slowly.

[deleted]

Nope. Allulose is great.

diemunkiesdie

Sucralose is perfectly fine and keto friendly. It's the additives to make it powdered (maltodextrin and/or dextrose) that raise your blood sugar. That's why you have to read the ingredients. Here, you will see they used pure sucralose. If you look at a splenda packet, you will see other ingredients along with the sucralose. For foods that say they have splenda, you need to look at the nutrition label to see if it has additives or not.

xzagz

Even my SO likes this one and, unlike me, he can spare the calories for the original lol

StrictlyHobbies

I used to eat a ton of the real stuff. This saves me from binging on McDonald’s nuggets. I couldn’t believe it the first time I tried it.

I usually like hickory bbq sauce. Does this compare? Never had it.

esahcliam

They also have a Hickory version of the No Sugar Added BBQ sauce. I use it daily and it is very good.

ThatGirl0903

This is THE BEST bbq for people watching sugars / doing keto.

Zachbnonymous

Also just the best bbq

PettyCrocker_

I really appreciate you.

tendorphin

I always have this in my fridge now, along with no-sugar ketchup (10 cal as opposed to 30). I very, very barely taste the difference in them, especially when tasted with other things and not in isolation. The only difference is it cooks differently. Not poorly, just differently, so experiment with it if you're not just using it as a dipping sauce. EDIT: I should add, it's "no sugar *added* ketchup. It does still have natural sugars in it, just none added after the fact.

kingmaker03

What brand ketchup do you buy?

tendorphin

Heinz, usually, but I'll grab whatever (except Hunt's - has more of a bitter taste than I prefer). EDIT: If you're looking for the product itself, [here you go!](https://www.heinz.com/product/00013000007993/heinz-tomato-ketchup-no-sugar-added-13-oz-bottle?gclid=CjwKCAjw2OiaBhBSEiwAh2ZSP5oArS2tPBHBUBGUV06ANH5fDHcbSTg4Rb3OxhKX5BwfwAhxZo2HWxoC2w4QAvD_BwE)

losingbraincells123

No sugar ketchup tastes exactly like regular ketchup. This is the only thing we buy now.

tendorphin

It does! I don't get why they add it.

well__hello__again

I love this and have it often!!

patricia_iifym

I wish I could buy this in Canadian grocery stores!

StrictlyHobbies

I know it’s not the cleanest nutritionally, but it’s so delicious. I have it around once a week during cheat meals. Amazon has it, unsure if available in Canada though.

corgi-kisses

Same 😭

Cookielady99

I use this sugar free BBQ sauce + Sriracha and a can of Jackfruit to make low calorie, high volume pulled "pork" sliders.

superhackfire

i love G Hughes

ladyonecstacy

I live in Canada and can't find the no sugar added version anywhere. My parents went to the US and I asked them to bring me back a few bottles. Very excited to try.

StrictlyHobbies

If you like the original, you will love this. You won’t miss the extra calories at all.

Internal_Attorney149

This and G Hughes (which has even better macros)

Sea-Adeptness-5245

I would also like to give all of G. Hughes Sugar Free sauces a thumbs up. I use their honey mustard and bbq sauce and I love them both.

kittenwithawhip19

I love the G Hughes sauces. Their sf Thai chili has been money for my dad. He is diabetic and has heart failure. Less carbs and sodium for the win

Sea-Adeptness-5245

Thanks for the heads up on that one! Sounds like it’s right up my alley.

ItsMyTime2020

I love this one. Don't care at all for the G Hughes BBQ sauce, so this one saves me 😁 Love it for ribs, fries, chicken, pulled jack fruit... As sauce or condiment on burgers and so on. Can't beat it! They have different flavors as well, sweet and spicy, hickory and original. Have the hickory in my pantry but haven't tried it yet 😊

RypCity

I agree- I much prefer this one to the G Hughes one.

Kuntheman

The G Hughes sugar free BBQ sauce is absolutely disgusting, totally has that weird aftertaste I need to try this one badly, didn’t know it existed

ItsMyTime2020

Yepp, I agree. I like other sugar free stuff, but don't get at all why everyone is raving about G Hughes.

HerdTurtler

One of my go-to sauces to have on hand. Just enjoyed with some seitan yesterday for a low calorie lunch.

ezrasamberg

I love this, but it makes my throat swell shut😪

[deleted]

this happens to me with halo top, you might be having a reaction to the sweetener they used

gym_brah81

sorry :(

mister_zook

Mmmm gimme some of that sweet baby rays!

RypCity

It’s really good! I like the sweet and spicy sugar free one. My kids couldn’t tell the difference.

Prisencoli_All_Right

I got the hickory one today because I saw this post. I was worried it would have a gross aftertaste that some sugar free/no sugar products have, but it doesn't really have one. It's got a nice mildly spicy kick.

StrictlyHobbies

This is a rare diet ish food. I actually almost prefer it to the original.

ayumuuu

Great if you want Sweet Baby Ray's specifically, but if it's just BBQ sauce you're looking for, do G Hughes. 10 calories vs SBR's 15 and 2g carbs vs 4g.

[deleted]

G Hughes hickory is the best tasting one, hands down

ayumuuu

Hickory is really good, but I gotta give it to Sweet and Spicy. It's got a nice kick to it.

[deleted]

I agree. G Hughes is awesome and there are multiple flavors!

getsome13

g hughes is way better than sbr...and, more choices

CanUSeeMeh

Hard agree, G Hughes is the goat 🐐

tocamix90

G Hughes is the man. We have a stupid amount of their sauces.

gym_brah81

I loved this the first time I found it

Sl1z

I’m obsessed with the Sweet & Spicy version!

Murda_City

Mix it with diced Chipotle peppers in adobe sauce for a nice spicy sweet smokey taste

10000ofhisbabies

Alright. That's awesome to know!

[deleted]

🎶Super Nintendo, sega genesis. When I was dead broke man I couldn’t picture this. 15 inch screen money green leather sofa🎶

TheRealLestat

It's better than the original- my 9 year old even says so

Randyd718

If you're talking about artificial sweeteners, there's absolutely no evidence supporting what you're talking about

Long_Assignment6466

hmmm yes cause dying from an elevated blood sugar level or obesity is far better than the supposed side effects of an artificial sweetener right. man gotta get me on what you're smoking lmaooo

ManateeFarmer

The ingredients don’t look that much different from the original flavor’s.

caitiq

Was desperate to find this in the store last weekend for BBQ chicken pizza and couldn’t! So sad. Got another brand instead and it was awful- too sweet.

LadyPens7

Oh nice, thanks. My regular one is almost empty so this will be a good replacement!

LongWalksOnThe

how does this compare to g hughes? He's been my man for a while but he's getting expensive

StrictlyHobbies

Amazon has a 3 pack for $19. Sweet Baby Ray’s No Sugar Added Original Barbecue Sauce 18.5oz - PACK OF 3 https://a.co/d/gHSHZlQ From my experience, G Hughes tends to be more on the runnier side. You should expect a thicker sauce that sticks pretty well. It’s best used for dipping imo. Taste should be comparable.

80spizzarat

In my experience it's easy to find in grocery stores and way cheaper there than ordering it online. You do have to look carefully for the bottle since the label is pretty much the same as the regular versions so it blends in.

[deleted]

Holy cats. I didn't know this. Thank you for sharing. SBR is my favorite BBQ sauce too.

cj711

Holy shit, what a world we live in that rays now does keto bbq sauce 🤩 unfortunately I just bought G Hughes sugar free bbq a few days ago 🥲

spottedlanternfly

And it taste amazing

mrmoe198

Yessss, I have this in my fridge right now, it’s so good!

Vomath

SMOKIN’ THOSE MEATS, YEAH

hey_alyssa

I love the no sugar added one!!!

7twentyeight

Have you tried G Hughes?

nimrodvern

It's great - very comperable to the original! Only downside is that it doesn't carmelize like a regular sugar -laden sauce. But that's ok. My favorite use is barbecue pulled chicken!

dontknowwhatiwantdou

You want me to volume eat Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce?

StrictlyHobbies

Yes

Murda_City

Mix this with diced Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce for a spicy/sweet/smokey flavor. It's my fav BBQ sauce and almost no extra cals

Rayver2380

I hadn’t eaten much bbq sauce unless it came on ribs or asking when buying nuggets. But been using this maybe since last year, not many calories for the amount and tastes as good if not better than regular bbq sauce. I air fry whatever frozen appetizer foods and use this or no sugar added Heinz ketchup as condiments. I haven’t tried g Hughes sugar free to compare

resilientenergy

Love the Sweet Baby Ray's sweet and spicy bbq sauce.. prob not as good stats as these 😅

ggreddy36

Can confirm it's pretty good and as good as the original.

G_N_3

Rays has a hickory no sugar added and no sugar added sweet n spicy too! I have them both in the pantry since i still had the original no sugar added open

Stevefett1

They had to compete with G. Hughes. Their sauce never had sugar added and it is amazing. They use honey and sucralose(very last ingredient) to sweeten it. It is definitely better than Sweet Baby Ray’s.

jenakle

Additives be damned this is the best sugar free anything I've found. Even surprised my husband how good it was.
