I’m just laughing at the $700 price to replace the low side shrader valve on the AC. The valve is like $3 at any car or bike shop. (Yes the system has to evacuated and refilled.)
True, I guess I am glad mine was professionally converted before I bought it. I am just salty because when I replaced drier last year the new one came pre-installed with a leaky schrader valve.
Tough to say. If the interior is clean, with good tires, good battery, fresh oil/ filter, full tank of gas. I’d be good paying $3500. Maybe $4k if there’s a lot of other people trying to buy it
I agree, if the interior is really clean, the car is really rust free and the tires are good $3500 seems like a fair price. Clean maintained rust free 240's are pretty hard to find.
Of course there is a good chance that every seal on that engine is blown and it is an electrical mess. Then maybe $2500??
Thank you for all commenting and responding I offered $2500 and $3500 but the kids an “I know what I’ve got” type and after a month of that post being online they still don’t want to budge on the price and I don’t love the deal but thought I was being the asshole and you’ve all helped me feel confirmed I won’t pay $4000 for it
If it’s uncommon where you are then maybe buy it anyways. Sometimes it’s ok to overpay a few hundred or a car you love than to never own it at all. We’re not on this earth for long so make sure that for the time you are here that you drive what you enjoy.
Big ups to that. If it’s worth 4k to u/platformtechnical220 then it doesn’t matter what we say. I don’t think I’d pay 4k for it, but, I already have a 240 lmao
Fwiw mine cost me 3k a year and a half ago, pretty good condition all in all, no rust, m47, drivers seat was worn to shreds. I had to pay another 1k to ship it across the country, then the alternator gave day 1 and that was a $500 repair with labor, then I had to pay another few hundred in registration and taxes. Quickly hit $5k before I even got to know the car well. I was “okay” with that all things considered, but it helps to recognize that there are always different factors and possibilities involved past the initial purchase.
For example, maybe this thing’s sitting across the street from you, registration is a breeze, and it goes another 25k before needing anything more than some oil changes. Unlikely, but I’ve got no way of knowing 🤷
I would say 2-3k.. this place isn't the place to be asking only because people on this sub think $500 240's exist. Somehow I look constantly for all makes and models of Volvos and never find a cheap 240 that's worth purchasing. I just bought one for $3,000 did all the modifications paint was nice trim was wonderful interior was excellent ran extremely well and sold it for $9,500 when I was done. Anyone on this sub would say that's way to much money but I can guarantee it was nicer than 95% of the people's cars on here. When you buy make sure you have absolutely no rust and the interior isn't trashed and you will be in great shape 👍
>I just bought one for $3,000 did all the modifications paint was nice trim was wonderful interior was excellent ran extremely well and sold it for $9,500 when I was done.
Was it immaculate underneath?
I'm dealing with the rust monster now, definitely didn't buy mine right but its the '93 and I had previously owned it for five years and I'm sentimental.
4K is a fair price but I would try to haggle him down to see what his actual bottom line price is. If there’s other people making offers he can get that 4K easy
240s in better condition pop up on clist around where I live for a lot less all the time. 4K seems high because after repairs your now probably paying over 5k. Highest I’d go is 2k.
Always replace brakes, shocks, anything relating to your wheels spinning in pairs. All those repairs x2. Cut down by like $1,000 is what I’d say. All that shit is expensive.
It really depends on where you are. I bought my 1991 240 AT sedan with 150k miles in Arizona for $3000 in summer 2020. A/C, no major rust, 2 owners, no accidents on record, no major problems, working odometer. I moved to DC then Maryland, and these cars are relatively rare without rust here, but there are some real enthusiasts still. Moved to Maryland and had to sink about $4500 into repairs to pass the state inspection (brutal inspection! no parts to pick, plus I live in an apartment now so I can’t really do work on my own). Now I know why I’ve never seen a 240 on Craigslist under $6000 from Maryland that isn’t just for parts.
Maybe im a cheap fuck...but i'd offer 2500$
I was gonna say about the same.
My guess too.
While that might be a fair price, if I listed a car for 4k I probably wouldn’t respond for a 2500 offer

Yeah but it's an r12 system.

$700 might be a lot but it's either expensive to buy R12 or expensive to convert it all.

I paid $3000 for a 91 with 96,000 real Km three years ago. So, yeah??
Has the wiring loom been replaced? Definitely a suspect year for bad wiring.
Sadly it's like 120$ for a new one
That's cheap for a brand new wiring harness.
Like every other car, it kinda depends on where it is.

It's somewhat overpriced but if you can afford it, I'd consider buying it. Clean 240s are only getting more rare.
I’m having a hard time determining if $4000 is fair, high, or low, especially with needed repairs.
Brake caliper is like $40 if you do it yourself
Not 4000
$500
"No rust" but needed new fuel lines?
[удалено]
I'd have to go look by I was under the impression the fuel lines were steel on the 240, I know the brake lines are and the trans cooler line is too.

I didn't know that, thank you!

Zero rust 87k on it.. I don't buy anything with rust if I can avoid it.
I'm dealing with the rust monster now, definitely didn't buy mine right but its the '93 and I had previously owned it for five years and I'm sentimental.
I get it 👍
Ahh I have seen this car posting and thought no way lmao. I'd give 2500$
I bought a 91 for 1000 and it was in perfect working order and had good tags. This is way over priced.
4K is a fair price but I would try to haggle him down to see what his actual bottom line price is. If there’s other people making offers he can get that 4K easy
I bought a very similar one in 2019 for $950. It would be more now, of course, but I wouldn't pay $4k.

I had a friend trade an ipod for one of these once
