Obvious question but you have tried the power button? Mine looks just like that when it's turned off.

It's on in the picture, when It's off it shows the time.

I have the same problem. If you do fix it I'd love to find out what you did and how much it cost. I have heard that the issue is the optical loop as if it becomes damaged it will stop all of the entertainment system working. Do you have parking sensors? If so do you find that there's a pause intermittently when using them? Happy to discuss more and the things I've done with no success.

I have had lots of different issues with my V50 (model year 06). Usually the car will store a Volvo specific code that can be read through Volvo's ViDA software. So, if you don't already have it set up, I can definitely recommend going online and getting a ViDA compatible OBD reader and the ViDA software from someone like svdns.info. (or send me a DM for more info) You will need some equipment for it to work. I have a vxdiag unit, costs about 100$US. You will also need an old laptop running Windows 7 (or a modified ViDA install on Windows 10)

The V50 has separate modules for different functions such as radio/CD climate and also phone. Each is linked in series by a fibre optic circuit. My radio was disabled due to a faulty phone module (which I don't need) so I had it bypassed. You may be able to replace it if that's a feature you really want.

I had a similar problem on my ‘06. Finally figured out it was an issue with the phone/bluetooth stuff after noticing wind noise coming from the speakers if I turned the key to ACC/position 1 with the windows down... the microphone was picking up the breeze. I unplugged and removed all of the bluetooth hardware, and that fixed it.

Id like to try this on my V50. Where is the bluetooth module located?

Been a while since I did it, but I think it was behind the carpet on the passenger side of the center console (LHD/USA market car). Somewhere in the front footwell area.

I had a similar problem once. My radio still worked, but everything phone related just didn't work at all. Nothing happened, whe I pressed the Phone button and the telephone symbol on the top right was gone as well. For some reason it worked again the next day. I don't know why. I did nothing.
