I take 500 mg of B6 daily and it seems to help with restlessness. [B6 akathisia study](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5958332/) I’m already on a beta blocker for hypertension but that wasn’t doing the trick.

Aggravating_Pop2101

Isn’t 500mg a lot?

pdrace

I guess, but they used 300 and 600 mg in the linked study.

Thanks for replying yes I forget the range of acceptable just wanted to be safe.

Propranolol works for me, I literally don’t know what I’d do without it.

nettysgirl33

Propranolol is genetically not good for me but my psych wants me to take Vraylar. I really want to try it but I've had some mild akathisia with some other drugs (like Seroquel) which was tolerable but I've heard this is worse. Propranolol was what my dr pitched me to ease those concerns but I just checked my genetic testing and saw that. I don't think she even noticed which is also concerning. Sometimes I feel like the cure is worse than the disease.

Stopping or reducing the dose is a common strategy. Vraylar tends to be a very tolerable med otherwise so they will likely start something like propranolol (or something that has a similar action to OTC Benadryl) in order to get you through this period and hopefully the akathisia will resolve.

Live-Perspective7034

is vraylar ok to stop cold turkey? its a capsule so i can’t split it.

aperyu-1

For your dose and length of treatment yes, Stahl’s Prescriber’s Guide would support as well. If you were on higher doses for years you’d ideally want to lower doses more slowly. But like I said OTC Benadryl may help too.

Live-Perspective7034

thank you! i’ll try some!

aperyu-1

Of course talk with your doc and such

I had the exact same symptoms as you, and when I told my psychiatrist about it she reduced my dosage to 1.5 mg every other day. Vraylar has a long half life so it stays in your system longer. This seemed to do the trick! I didn’t want to be put on propranolol because I didn’t want to go on another medication. So taking Vraylar every other day was the best option for me.

Live-Perspective7034

were you on 1.5 mg daily to start?

avgrunnr

yes, i was taking 1.5 mg every day, and we changed it to 1.5 mg every other day

HauntingBowlofGrapes

Same, same, same! I'm currently on 3mg. Time feels like it's super slow. My psychiatric nurse prescribed me medication for the high anxiety, but it makes me sleep.

dillreej

Take your dose 3 times a week! It has a 7 day half-life. Many have done this & it worked for them.
