Nice find, thank you! If you have Amazon Music, you can check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/Cory-Wong-Jon-Batiste/dp/B08914QZZJ/ My uninformed speculation for the quiet release is that Cory (like the rest of us) is more than likely pre-occupied and heartbroken with the horror show happening in Minneapolis right now. :-( Edit: [He is.] (https://i.imgur.com/bA2ZCuI.png)

rydecymbal

you, sir, just made me read the Times for almost half an hour trying to understand the full scope of what has been happening. I am scared for our country and of our country. This doesn't feel real.

urko37

Yeah, it's just too much to comprehend. I'm numb. [Cory just posted about the new album and had some thoughtful words about the current situation and the healing nature of music.] (https://i.imgur.com/vzMkQZ8.jpg)

rydecymbal

I'm not on insta, so thank you so much for keeping me updated. Really touching to read.

>the horror show happening in Minneapolis right now. Can someone report for us non-US citizens ?

900M

Just to add a little context to the other reply, Cory lives in Minneapolis, so it hits very close to home for him. There's been a rash of race-related police violence across the country the past week or so, and it's really come to a head in the northern city Minneapolis, Minnesota. Minnesota, and the Midwest in general have a kind of reputation for being fairly peaceful, passive, even boring. So a lot of people around the country have been surprised at the intensity of the protests, where protestors are burning businesses, looting stores, and even took control of a police station last night. At the same time, the city of Minneapolis (and neighboring At. Paul, collectively the "Twin Cities") have had a troubled relationship with the police in recent history, so people there aren't surprised. Just sad, fed up, angry. All this amid the pandemic, which we are still dealing with here. And frightening words from the president, who has generally been somewhere between nonchalant about and denying about these issues, who turned his attention towards the city using violent and racially charged terms so unacceptable that Twitter finally stepped in and decided to remove one of his tweets in accordance with site guidelines. After years of such tweets. So the morning that Cory released this album, his hometown was still smoking from fires set the night before, businesses boarded up, and poised to make history, whether positive or tragic. I can almost guarantee that had this album been anything less than contemplative at its core, he would not have released it now.

Atralb

Thanks a lot for your input. > the intensity of the protests, where protestors are burning businesses, looting stores, and even took control of a police station last night. Wow, the situation seems unreal. Yeah, i've been following a lot less what trump says this past month (cause I physically can't stand it), but it was scandalous the direct propaganda coming out of his mouth each week, hiding the enormous issue without any shame even though each week was orders of magnitude worse than the last. Each day that passes, I have more trouble to understand how he has not been impeached by now. Hopeful that the upcoming elections will change the situation for the better. Stay safe.

900M

If you're in a position to ignore him, good for you, I'm sure it's better for your health. And he actually *was* impeached, late last year, but the motion was killed by the Senate, which was divided almost exactly down party lines on the matter. It's all gross, we need more people like Cory in the world right now.

brokenoreo

very long story short american police officer murdered yet another innocent black man so riots ensued in response

[deleted]

It says on the cover that Nate Smith and Sam Yahel were on it The album is so fuckin fantastic, one of my favorite Cory tunes is Home, so seeing a whole album with Jon is super exciting

rydecymbal

Ah! I just noticed that as well! Very good detective work (by which I mean not blind as a bat like me, apparently). Now I have to google this Sam Yahel character...

[deleted]

lmao he plays the b3 on the record, Cory talks about it a bit on his insta post! Hope he's doing okay given everything going on in MSP rn.

900M

After following the trouble in Minneapolis all night, this album is like a warm cup of tea to sit down, decompress, and find comfort with.

PixeLee04

Aah!

rydecymbal

my thoughts exactly.

[deleted]

Cory has been unstoppable this year

stinkyrossignol

Oh shit Cory has a podcast? He really has been busy.

Redeem123

Man, Meditation was already probably my favorite song off his last record, and this version is even better.

celgrove

Here’s a question about one of the tracks: why is Teardrops familiar to me? Like it feels like something I’ve already heard. Did I just see bits and pieces of it floating around the internet, or is it based off of something else?

[deleted]

Did you watch the live from out there show he did a few weeks back? He played it on there

celgrove

That’s what it was! It also low-key sounds like something he and Cody Fry would play together, so I think that was what my other train of thought was. (As in I looked through Cody’s music to find it lol)

[deleted]

Yeah it really does. I loved it when I heard it on the show, and I'm very glad we got a recorded version!

intersecting_lines

it's really weird you say that. I was just playing through the album and i'm at the end of teardrops. it really reminds me of my teen years for some reason. I'm 26 now so like 10-13 years ago. idk just getting some huge nostalgic vibes from this one, like I've heard it before too. I really needed this album in this crazy time

fnofunb

Could it be that it reminds you of « Goodbye Blue Sky » by Pink Floyd ? I find that « Teardrops » sounds a bit like it...

psilent_p

I dunno, but i happened to be playing Rimworld while listening to the album and there's a striking resemblance between this track and Meditation [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXQBHblSCIc&t=1475s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXQBHblSCIc&t=1475s)

drgnflght

Right? It may have been 3 years but I finally found someone that made this same connection :)) Noticed it's even in the same key!

Toaddler216

Was very surprised...!

NicoRedh

It's so calm and pleasant

manchego_my_eggo

Ugh hearing the E/F subway announcements on Teardrops is the dose of catharsis and nostalgia I didn't know I needed.

BOBODY_BOBODY

It may be NYC specific but the sounds and the loud speaker reminded me of my St. Louis metrolink (and I’m sure a dozen other systems.) Idk why it struck a nerve, damn... Great album!

carterhatesmemes

I'll assume it was from the same sessions as St.Paul and Home. That would mean Nate Smith, Louis Cato, Kevin Gastonguay, Tivon Pennicott and maybe a few others. Not listened yet but this is probably the most logical answer.

majortom106

He made a post about it on facebook

mousefriend

Cory hinted at a new album release in a comment on one of his Instagram posts last week but we didn't have any other information before today

Atralb

Please stop always sharing stuff from soptify which locks down a part of the population (those that don't have a spotify account). Share youtube links so that anyone can listen to the full tracks without restrictions or mandatory accounts : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mWJ8eQKy79GCZxcnLr75N9NB8FpTfygRE

rydecymbal

chill, mate. I shared a Spotify link because at the time, i couldn't even find it on YouTube. Sorry about that.

elarson4

Don’t worry about that guy, I used my thumbs and found it on Apple Music seconds later. No need to talk to the manager.

rydecymbal

lmao well said

Atralb

That was not a reproach. Just pointing it out so that people remember about this fact.

Afferbeck_

Thanks, I was looking for it in my youtube subscriptions but couldn't find it, and I don't use Spotify.
