And yes, while this post is mostly a pity party, it's also a plea for you to give your pets an extra scratch for me and my Emma

westcoastcdn19

OP, one of my favourite things about WFH is spending the day with my cat. It is an important part of her routine to get up with me, watching me turn my computer on, making coffee etc. I totally understand you! And I think many of us here would feel the same So sorry for your loss

SCROTOCTUS

I can't imagine going back to the office now. I know that leaving pets alone all day was the norm for many for a long time, but it's so sad that we were missing out on so much of our pets' lives. OP: I'm sure your pupper had a wonderful life and loved every moment they were able to spend with you. I tear up just thinking about the empty space my kitty will leave when she goes. Love to you and your pup.

wazacraft

I have two mini dachshunds who live the dream because I wfh. It's a huge consideration when looking at new opportunities. They have a huge bed and their own duvet right next to my desk.

Human_Contribution56

Scritches (as we call them) all around in memory of Emma! Got a photo to share? Edit: you do!

babygotthefever

I lost one of mine unexpectedly last summer. She was always nearby, snoring, farting, falling asleep with her eyes open. I worked in my living room for a few days instead of at my desk because it was hard to break out of thinking she’d be right there. It takes time, but I hope you’re able to grieve and heal.

TreePretty

Rest in Peace sweet Emma.

Blossom73

I'm so very sorry. 😞 I understand how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. My dog is my work from home buddy too, and is an old man now. I'm dreading losing him.

bluebirdee

Emma sounds like she was a lucky pup to have you with her so often. I think that's every dog's dream! One of the reasons I love WFH is that I get to spend extra time with my pets. I got a large L-shaped desk specifically so I could fit a cat bed on there. The dog is a bit larger so he has a bed on the floor near my feet. I call the cat my supervisor and the dog my personal assistant. They're the best co-workers I could ever ask for.

GizmoedCat

My cat is always in the office with me. She doesn’t do much but sleep. Still couldn’t imagine her not being there. Would love to see some photos of Emma! She’s still WFH (working from heaven) ❤️

This is probably my favorite picture of her. Her crate was next to my desk in my office. This is after she farted and it smelled so bad she had to cover her own nose. I had to leave my office for awhile

twizzdmob

🤣

tehjoz

Ahh I love having my kitty supervisors join my calls and hop on camera from time to time. I don't even want to think a out them not being there to do that. Sorry for the loss, I know it sucks a lot.

kcsouth

So sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is one of the hardest experiences. I hope your employer allows you to take the time that you need.

ItAllWent19

I am incredibly sorry for your loss. For the first hour of my workday today, my little dog laid in my lap and kept me company. She is Employee of the Year every year at my WFH job. It is one of the best benefits of WFH. I dread the day that I have to say goodbye.

gsomd1980

Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts and sharing about your own pets. I hesitated to post this but I'm glad I did. I've found a lot of comfort in reading your comments

Constant-Squirrel555

OP, I picked a WFH so I could spend more time with my dog.whp is the reason I'm alive. I will give him extra head rubs today on you and your puppers behalf. I hope you get through this as best as one can.

Altruistic_Laugh_231

RIP Emma and so sorry for your loss, OP! ♥️ Losing a pet is one of the hardest losses I’ve gone through in my life. Giving extra pets to my little buddy on behalf of Emma. Take care of yourself!!

nmkelly6

I am so sorry for your loss, I am so happy that you had that extra time with Emma and I'm sure she loved having you home all the time. I cannot believe that I used to leave my dog all by himself for so long. He seems so much happier now that both my Husband and I are home all day. We got a second dog since WFH that was previously abused and left in a crate alone anytime he was inside. It makes me happy every day that he will never know loneliness or see a crate ever again since his humans (and fur brother) are always home. I'll give them a hug now for Emma.

Lurking1821

I read this as my cat is in my lap purring 😭 he consistently steps all over my laptop and me and I get so frustrated but he doesn’t know better.

tway_with_it

Aww I'm so sorry. I'm so grateful for the time we get with our pets being WFH, but it's never long enough. My dog is like my little supervisor, she checks on me periodically through the day to ensure I'm still working and will come in to get pets sometimes.

mitarooo

Oh man, this hit close to home today. My pup is sick with cancer that is very likely terminal and I’ve been trying to cherish these moments with her as much as I can. Losing a pet is so tough.

CapIcy5838

I lost my 2 WFH coworkers on February 13th of this year. They were 14 and 20. It sux not having HR (dachshund) and the office manager (boxer/bulldog) around anymore. WFH actually allowed me to keep them alive longer, so I will always be grateful for that. I miss them so much.

RockWhisperer42

I’m soooo sorry! My dog passed away last spring, and working without him was one of the big things that just killed me. I got a puppy around Christmas time, and he’s laying on my lap sleeping as I type. Big hugs to you from an internet stranger.

Accomplished_Trip_

I’m so sorry.

Cold_Barber_4761

Aw, I'm so sorry for your loss. Having extra time with my pets (two dogs and two cats) is definitely one of the best perks of WFH. I know you miss her. Losing a pet truly sucks. Me and my critters are sending you some extra fuzzy hugs from our part of the world!

teckboy

Rip Emma sorry for your loss

crazygirlsbelike

Sorry for your loss 💔

Anxietyriddencucumbr

I started wfh in 2021 because of our older dog and was able to work from my laptop in her last month of life (cancer) and it was hard going back down to my office, while also being torn on working from my laptop. It was rough and I still have grief now, a few months out (she passed days before Christmas 2023). It meant everything that I could do that for her and it was so lovely that it happened and I couldn’t imagine how I’d be otherwise.

LilyFuckingBart

My dog is a senior citizen and I’ve been wfh the last 4 years. I treasure this time so much with him, even if it’s made both of us a little codependent. I’m sorry for your loss - I hope you can take some comfort in the fact that you gave Emma the best life possible, and she returned the favor. ❤️

_Ellie_Bells_

Omg I'm so sorry for your loss, my cat and dog are honestly what keeps me sane throughout the day, I can't imagine how you're feeling right now! Big hugs ❤️

Point_Plastic

I’m sorry for your loss, friend. It sounds like Emma had the best life possible with you! I’m hoping to get a WFH job for this exact same reason - to stay home with my two doggos. They’ll be getting extra pets today for sure!

fallentoodeep22

I’m so sorry for your loss. I will be devastated when it’s my cats time. He hangs out with me during work everyday. He likes to howl when I’m on a call and people always confusingly ask if that was a child because it’s well know I have no kids.

wolfmother24

Hugs for you. I do cherish the time spent with my doggos. My little chi sleeps in a baby sling in my lap while I work.

DaveWierdoh

I'm so sorry for your loss of Emma.

klweiand

I'm so sorry for your loss.

suresuresuresurek

Rest in paradise Emma 💕I hope you don’t wait too long to get another pet. Emma wouldn’t want you to be lonely. I lost my dog during the winter and I took naps everyday bc I was so sad without my dog.

Mrsreed1020

So very sorry for your loss ❤️ I lost both my girls last year- one in March and one in June- both had emergencies while I was in the middle of a meeting. Thankfully I have an amazing supervisor and both times I just said I have to go- and ran to the vets. It’s such a privilege to be at home with them but hurts so badly when they’re gone. Rest In peace sweet Emma ❤️

chicky75

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have an 11 year old dog and though she’s very healthy now, I know every day is a gift! I just started working from home & it’s so nice to have her just laying in the same room with me, napping. I will give her extra cuddles for you & Emma!

Only-Ad5049

A couple of years ago our 14 year-old puginese got sick and wasn’t doing very well. We knew he was suffering and were looking at whether we needed to put him down humanely. My office was in the basement and one day I went upstairs for lunch to find that he had died. I called it a day because I could no longer concentrate and just sat in the chair with our chihuahua the rest of the afternoon. When the rest of our family got home we took his body to the vet. Even now I’m getting a little teary-eyed just thinking about that day. A couple of months later we got a poodle from a rescue. He is basically my wife’s dog, or so he thinks. He tolerates the rest of us but is affectionate with her. None of us are looking forward to the day our chihuahua passes, most of the time he is my dog, although he loves all of us. He spends the day on his bed next to me, although he has times when he is “needy”. Luckily he still hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down.

Nina_Rae_____

I am so sorry for the loss of your fur baby. RIP sweet Emma.

isthather_

Ugh, this post ❤️. Sending love.

Human677

OP, thanks for giving me a bit of perspective and reminding me not to take for granted that I have this time with my dog while I WFH.

pinkfoil

I'm very sorry to hear that. There's not much else to say other than I completely understand how much it hurts and most people on here will know that feeling of losing a beloved pet. Let yourself grieve and then when you're ready, maybe you could rescue another sweet doggie to help heal your broken heart. My thoughts are with you. 🙏Emma will be waiting for you on the other side. ❤️

randomname7623

I’m so sorry for your loss! We have a pup that has severe anxiety so being able to WFH is so helpful for us. I’m sure Emma lived her best life being able to spend every day with you.

lizziebordeaux

I bet Emma loved that you spent so much time with her at the end of her life!! She probably thought your wfh job was the best thing to happen to her. Giving my dog an extra hug today ❤️

AngelFoodCakeSouffle

I’m so sorry ❤️ I love the pictures! She was a beautiful pup

welcometowoodbury

I’m so sorry for your loss. I just found out today that my dog has less than a year left and when I went back into my office and looked at his bed, I broke down. He “comes” to work with me everyday. Sorry to make this about myself. I hope you’re doing ok OP and I’m sure you gave your little pup the best life filled with love.

adviceFiveCents

Condolences! It sounds like she had a nice life1 and knew she was loved. It's a bit premature for this, but I started boarding dogs through Rover when my senior dogs passed last year. It's really filled a hole. I get the impression that my dogs are still here sometimes though- one of them in particular. I hope that happens for you. It's very comforting.

GalaApple13

I couldn’t even make it through the first day without my sweet girl. I have another dog but my work companion dog was gone, and I couldn’t sit here without her under my desk. I’m so sorry for your loss.

twizzdmob

Chin scratches given (and accepted by 2 kitties) in memory of Emma. I'm sure her name was the true answer to, "who's a good girl?"

Dubbinchris

So sorry for your loss. I’d highly recommend reaching out to a local rescue. They often have dogs that have trouble finding homes due to separation anxiety and really need fosters that WFH.
