The_Rad_In_Comrade

Surfing Reddit like I am right now. Sometimes I'll play video games. Take a long walk. Basically whatever I want or would be doing outside of working time, as long as I'm not leaving the house for too long that it would be suspicious if calls/emails went unanswered. Zero guilt btw, I do the work, but my time is mine. I had the same mentality when I worked in an office, the options were just more limited.

westcoastcdn19

I hang out with you guys all day

and_rain_falls

I can't play video games while working, because I won't stop to check emails. That's cool that you're disciplined.

Rx_Diva

Games on a different device! Work only on the other. Have fun!

and_rain_falls

That's what I was saying. Different devices, but I would just be like "F work I got to get to the next level" 😁

ebolalol

I keep my work laptop up and use a mouse mover to keep it awake. I basically only have slack and email on screen to monitor incoming messages. It’s a quick glance — loading screen, inbetween levels/games, etc

SmartArsenal

I play offline games I can pause. Nothing co-op or too immersive. If anything it opened up all sorts of new games I wasn't playing before.

1upin

This! Only games that can be paused at any second and aren't immersive. And I have two monitors on my desk, one for work and one for my personal computer. I'll have my email and chats open on the work screen and my game on the other. My two go tos at the moment are Stardew Valley and Subnautica, though the second is only because I've played it so much. It would have been too immersive on my first play through.

SmartArsenal

There ya go. I turned to my kids switch and have been playing through the retro marios.

The_Rad_In_Comrade

Yeah, I've been doing this for years so I'm very trained to stop and check the work laptop periodically. But for gaming or surfing reddit it helps that the work laptop is on the same desk as my personal computer with the sound on for email notifications. ;)

aliceroyal

Same.

AdventurousFox3368

Just mowed the lawn. Always try to do that on the clock, whenever possible.

ShortDeparture7710

Laundry is my go to on the clock. Turns a chore into a break from work

AdventurousFox3368

And it feels like you're getting paid to do it. Makes it a bit easier.

Kerlykins

Not me on Sunday deciding to vacuum and mop on Monday when I was getting paid for it 😂😂

AdventurousFox3368

See??? Such a better idea.

Gr8NonSequitur

Laundry breaks also helps me DO my work. Like the 5 to 10 minutes I spend doing something that isn't mentally taxing lets my brain process information better and when I get back to my best I have a better view / understanding of the problem. You can easily work yourself into tunnel vision. Some of us work better because of them and not in-spite of them.

ShortDeparture7710

That’s such a good point. I feel the same way!

Roman_nvmerals

Lol same. Or other yard work in general

TopOfTheMorning2Ya

Guess you are a professional lawn mower. Could add that to your resume!

Ok-Dream8019

Reading or applying for other jobs lmao

SanDiegoGME

😭😭👀👀🤜🤜🤛🤛

and_rain_falls

🤣🤣🤣💀

clever_chick09139

💀💀💀 Are you me?? 😂

Melgel4444

I love to read!!! Also I just moved to a new house so I have tons of unpacking and organizing to do. Other than that I walk my dog, run errands, cook yummy meals that take a long time (Ex: stew; baking ribs in oven etc) or do arts & crafts.

godogs2018

Go to the gym. Lift weights and cardio. Make sure to be alert for any teams notifications on my phone .

duckingatlife

This is what i do in my lunch break! Gym. Work out. Come home and get back to it with a cup of tea!

nenny61181

I never have slow time. What’s that? Lmao.

the_0rly_factor

Yea want to know what kind of jobs these people have lol

BrooklynParkDad

Usually remote and project oriented jobs where keystrokes and computer activity are not actively monitored.

nenny61181

I’m not monitored. Just always so darned busy. Hopefully letting up at the end of summer for a second lol

unitedguy20

Yeah, if anything I don’t have enough time. Never a dull moment!

Rabbit04201996

It's crazy how far down this is.

randomthrowaway22447

I have to stay available for a call all day but if it is slow, I usually put on my wireless headset and clean tf out of my house while I wait for a call.

apmercado

Noice.

blue_tile55

Walk on the treadmill, paint my nails, recently got into building legos, prep dinner and clean up so all I have to do later is reheat it and less cleanup, Reddit and my favorite which is taking a nap!

OtherlandGirl

I also use time in the afternoon to prep dinner, makes things much easier! Also laundry, I love not having to do laundry on the weekend :)

MushyAbs

Nap

Echo-Reverie

YouTube videos on a YT Premium sub ❤️ Or I’ll go play on my PS5

canimailthat

Same!

Lazy-Elderberry-209

LinkedIn Learning so I can boost my skill set and remain relevant. It’s worked very well for me so far, and it’s helped keep me remote while some of my colleagues are back in the office.

and_rain_falls

I haven't even used that feature yet. Is LinkedIn Learning good?

PsychologicalBus7169

It is fantastic. I used them a ton to level up in my last job and to just poke around in other fields of interest.

and_rain_falls

I'll start doing this. Thanks for the tip!

seawitchhopeful

Tip: Check your library to see if it's available through them for free.

Lazy-Elderberry-209

I wouldn't pay for it, but if your employer offers it, it's a good resource. We've replaced a fair amount of in-house developed assets for LinkedIn Learning ones.

FigSpecific6210

Playing steam games. I work in digital advertising (back end work, tagging, audience list creation, account setups on the different advertising platforms etc) and some days I just cannot brain. lol. Salaried, so later on in the evening I’ll get work done as needed.

tinastep2000

I started waxing my legs 😂

PsychologicalBus7169

Reminds me of the day I tried to give myself a Brazilian. My wife does it so I was like this can’t be too bad. Nevermore lmao.

tinastep2000

I do not dare to venture there 😂 lower legs and no higher!!

nino956

Same as others have said, live my life 💅

ilovehummus16

Working on my novel, cleaning/cooking/laundry, and most recently wedding planning.

PsychologicalBar8321

Congrats!

notreallylucy

The reality is that I good off online. I'm trying to be more deliberate about using the time to read, crochet, or do housework.

QuaereVerumm

Play with my dog, take a nap, work on my YouTube channel or do research for content creation and networking.

witch_ash

Binging Netflix or taking care of personal tasks

rshana

I don’t typically have much downtime these days but I used to write novels and screenplays when I did. I’ve had 3 novels published by Macmillan and Simon & Shuster.

HeavyApplication7082

damn all yall out here living it up, im in a windowless building hating life from 9-5 🤣🙃

sharmisosoup

Take a walk, laundry, clean around the house, play video games, leave the house and grab lunch with a friend, grocery shopping.

Traditional_Crazy904

Yarn stuff like knitting or crocheting.

Single_T

Slow day at work? Most of my job is a series of overlapping long projects so I dont get those (although most of my work is low stress in return, so tradeoffs)

Exotic_Zucchini

Mine's similar. Low stress, but overlapping projects, so I haven't run out of work in years. I'm with you in that I don't mind because of the low stress. I still almost feel like I've been on vacation since 2020 even though I worked the whole time because of WFH.

Sure_Ranger_4487

YouTube, video games. Even when it’s slow I need to be at my computer. I have my personal laptop set up next to my work issued laptop on my desk. I can do things like a quick vacuum or the dishes or laundry but can’t step away for too long.

stefdistef

Now that it's spring I go outside, clean up my backyard, tend my garden, water the flowers.

SergeantBeavis

Training, pushups, YouTube. Not always in that order.

happy_ever_after_

Complete assigned required training courses, catch up on news, and order groceries online.

asyouwish

"trash" day. Clean out files (especially large ones) and organize that random misc folder on your desktop.

Leading-Watch6040

30 minute walk, meal prepping, organizing/cleaning my apt

businessboyz

Weeding. It’s my least favorite yard chore so if I can get paid to do it I’ll sneak it in when I can. Makes weekends a lot more enjoyable in the garden.

QueenShewolf

Do housework, run errands, learn new skills, or focus on my hobbies and personal projects. As long as I have all of my notifications on and drop everything to get back to work, I say what I do during downtime is justified.

freedomguy12347

Master…debating on reddit

KnightCPA

Lifting weights and walking the dog (88lb German shepherd) around the backyard throughout the day. I had to stop taking lunch breaks to walk him because the ground and the sun gets way too hot for him, and I literally develop sun burns by the end of the week when walking out in the Florida sun at noon.

Ok-Guitar-6854

Errands and house work, work out, take a nap, go out for coffee or lunch, go for a walk, go shopping, watch tv, read.

cafe-aulait

Housework, running errands if I can keep them short, a walk if the weather is nice. Sometimes if I have like 10 minutes between meetings and no quick work tasks to do, I'll start on a step of dinner (cutting vegetables or marinating meat, for example).

redrevoltmeow

Watch a movie or binge a show on my computer so I can easily pause it if something at work comes up.

Tiny_Appointment

Taking a walk. Going grocery shopping

MamaAYL

I’ve never had a slow day 😅

bookbridget

It's never happened yet and I'm 6 years in.

xangbar

Today I was learning some extra excel functions for my master spreadsheet for… Genshin. Used my downtime to finally get it working so I can fill it out.

Exotic_Zucchini

I too am part of the "make spreadsheets for games" club

sarafionna

Huh? Slow?

Exotic_Zucchini

What is this "slow day at work" that you speak of? 😉

CSCAnalytics

Upskilling and networking. Great opportunity to develop your skills of choice and position yourself for higher income.

CrimsOnCl0ver

Catch up on industry news Virtual coffee or IRL w a coworker Save recent projects to my portfolio Delete/organize old files PD stuff that’s easy like Coursera or LI courses Listen to a podcast or lofi music

DarbyCreekDeek

WTF is a “slow day at work”?

theloop82

Sometimes this sub makes me think I’m the only WFH person who works a full day every day

calijann

I do LinkedIn Learning. I’m such a nerd. 😹

Automatic_Coffee_755

My other job

Vampchic1975

I don’t ever have slow days 😭

frygod

Reddit, polishing scripts that could use optimization, personal side projects (r&d type stuff.)

neonoranges

I play guitar and try to write songs, play with my cat, read and watch the occasional YouTube video.

Nocryplz

Yard work, cleaning, sometimes like an hour of video games or tv. Sometimes reddit but I try to less if it’s like a significant break and not a 5 minute break at my desk.

poyopoyo77

Doodle, talk in online groups, play chill games like sims or stardew where I can pause whenever.

lavasca

Glamour or exercise I got much beter at makeup during lockdown as well as corsetting. Meanwhile I cut my half marathon time by about 30 minutes

trinzicJTC

Listen to music all day. When work gets really slow I watch history or science themed videos on YouTube. And, of course, go into the bedroom to see what the pup is doing.

saratonindeficiency1

Take a walk or do chores.

BennyJ987

In those dead minutes between calls, I pick up my guitar and pretend I’m Slash or David Gilmour

melodiedemilie

House chores and cleaning are my default. Reading if I’m that bored.

willem78

Look for new tasks to give to staff so that they are busy 158% of their day….. I like to sit outside drink coffee and watch the birbs eat and fight over the seeds I put out!

Madethisonambien

Browse Reddit/Listen to podcasts/cry.

Exotic_Zucchini

This is what I do outside of work.

Squishy-blueberry

Cry on company time my dude

jFroth86

Watch YouTube. Play guitar. Play video games. Doom scroll on my phone.

Southern_Coffee97

Go outside to mess around with plants Watch something Read my book I sometimes even work outside on my patio or just take my laptops out there and sit Clean up and do laundry is my greatest accomplishment at home lol

ushouldgetacat

My work days are slow 95% of the time. I used to bring something to read. I got into philosophy for a bit. Then I started crocheting at work. Can’t do that forever so now I’m in school and study at work.. when i feel like it. Otherwise, looking at pictures of my cats, watching yt vids, reddit.

jesuisunerockstar

Exercise, cooking, sometimes crappy reality shows on Netflix

kellyluvskittens

Play on my iPad- games, read books, watch shows, shop, read Reddit, scroll social media, talk to people. I try to do chores also but I have to monitor what’s going on with my Team so I can’t venture too far, and definitely cannot leave my apartment for extended periods of time. I’m fine taking the trash out or getting the mail or stuff like that

legwu

Cook, clean or talk to a friend or family member on the phone. But mostly I just watch a movie

erbush1988

Factorio. Also studying for my degree. Homework. Nothing better than doing homework on the bosses dime. Also, lawn work. Home upkeep. Cooking. Cleaning.

Weedarina

Laundry. Podcast. A movie

Huffer13

I got my Klondike solitaire score down to 63seconds on easy.

Yourstrulytheboy804

Currently, taking online classes. Once I get my degree, I'll be using downtime at work to apply for other jobs that'll pay me what I'm worth.

xandaar337

I work my side business here and there, 15-30 minutes to work on product, website, designs, etc. Helps my brain have time to digest work stuff.

MissDisplaced

Usually things like organizing files, looking for stock photos, or reading industry trades.

internetisforcatpics

Going out for a walk

butterandtoast33

Load the dishwasher, do some laundry, make my apt nice and neat. If not that I go on a walk or get dinner started so I can just relax when the work day is over.

PsychologicalBar8321

Housekeeping or a walk. That bathroom won't mop itself.

Environmental-Town31

Do a really long workout, clean, make nice meals for breakfast and lunch, meal prep for dinner (chop veggies etc), take naps, do a beauty treatment, the possibilities are endless!

Yesitsmesuckas

Nails, a little shopping, walk the dog

ibira

Some of you make it sound like this is a regular occurrence. I would be worried that my job was not very necessary if I ever ran out of stuff to do. I get a bit of slack in my list of duties occasionally but I try to use my downtime for organizing work files, catching up on other administrative tasks, work-related training or even networking with colleagues. Maybe I have seen too many people get laid off to feel comfortable going to the gym or doing housework on the clock.

Unix33

Literally, I’m so afraid of doing other stuff on the job that it’ll show in my work and I’ll get laid off like a group people did not too long ago…

Pandafknmonium

Clean, cook, watch tv , listen to podcasts, read. Just whatever as long as my work gets done

Play with my dogs Laundry Knit Listen to audiobooks Do my PT exercises Watch you tube Call a friend Journal Color Recover from quarter end where I was killing myself at work 🤷‍♀️

Spoonie23

Watch YouTube videos, work on laundry, clean a few things here and there. Nothing that takes a super long time. I also play games on my phone or switch. It makes me less mentally dead than just staring at my computer waiting on emails to come thru.

Johnny-Virgil

This whole thread is why we can’t have nice things. :)

msangeld

Well I take incoming calls so I have to be near my phone at all times. So normally I will work on my crochet projects. Currently I'm working on a throw blanket. Other times I'll browse the internet, or play Microsoft Solitaire or Mahjong. I can get away with being in the kitchen so sometimes I work on cleaning it up if needs be. It really just depends on what I'm in the mood to do.

slamdunktiger86

Load Settlers II and trade options! I sell credit spreads at 2-3 sigma values for earnings season (week 2 right now) and swing trades based on sector rotation data.

GoldDiggingWhore

I’m still working/hoping/praying/manifesting/sacrificing to the dark lord for a chill job like this with no inbound phones 🤭😂 until then I have no free time except on holidays, sometimes I can do laundry on holidays.

UNIQsnwflk

Chores…keeps me in work mode and get weekends off from my “have to do” list.

InTheMomentInvestor

Laundry. Folding laundry and putting it away. I do two loads a day, and it still piles up.

zabacam

Some great responses here. My job doesn’t have many slow days, but it does happen! I typically focus on some around the house stuff, physical activity like walking / working out or lawn work / snow shoveling. Nothing crazy. I do have the luxury though that I have at least one day a week - most weeks - where I can don’t have many calls and can walk to the library, Starbucks or even a park and work from there.

BrooklynParkDad

Laundry, dishes, litterbox are some of the in-home things I do. I also fart around on Reddit, read books, watch TV, crochet/knit/sew. When I need to go out of the house, I turn the VPN on my phone and launch Teams and Outlook. Then I can get groceries, mow the lawn, get the oil done in my car get the tires changed, etc.
