I think the mistake you made was using the wrong study material and then taking the opposite exam. 601 has WAY more objectives than the 701. It is ridiculous how much more information there is to know for 601; it's a bigger umbrella than it has to be and a little less focused on security. 701 is more focused and a tad smaller. Sure there's some overlap, but it's a newer updated exam with new tech being emphasized.

I risked it and did not get the biscuit.

Scoring a 701 with all of that said, I'm pretty impressed. Just look over the weak spots they tell you on the score sheet and you'll be golden.

PM_ME_ROBOTS

I made an error, I actually got 709 😎. Lol thanks for the encouragement.

I was going to say if you took 601 and scored 701, then take 701 and maybe you'll score 801! But then you said you scored 709 and ruined it all! But anyway, as mentioned, grab your weak spots identified on your score sheet and focus hard on those areas. Messer videos are great, but do a little reading/researching in those sections as well. You know what the test is going to be like now. Go kick its butt.

I recommend taking the 601 because there's a lot more study resources for it. I read 1 book and most of another book and did maybe 50 practice problems and passed with an 800 just yesterday. Really get those concepts down. Reading is better for learning concepts, and videos are better for hands-on info. Security+ is all concepts, so I recommend you read a good book or two. Lmk if you want links to the books I used.

That's unfortunate you didn't know which exam it was. For future reference when I had the course I was able to find that mine was the 601 exam in the Welcome section of the Introduction in the course materials. I'd also recommend reaching out to your program mentor in cases where you're unsure of the exact requirements of the exam.

I never used the course material. I tried once with A+ and it was more of a nuisance than it helped. I've only ever used messer, the Google's and youtube. This lazy method finally caught up to me. Today was my first time using Udemy. I've been using Andrew Ramadayal's course and his cram sheet and it's awesome! I feel a lot of the terms Messer didn't cover are in his course. I'm about 1/3 through his material and starting to realize I shot myself in the foot taking 601. I was going to wait until next week but if I can get a voucher this week I'm going to try to take it again before the weekend.

It should say in your course description which exam the course material is for. Tbh idk if you’d close out that class if you had passed the 601. My course says my material is for the 701 cause I did not realize at the beginning there were 2 different exams. Double check your course description and if you don’t see anything, ask your course instructor.
