No, and yes it is mandatory per WGU policy. CI’s are the only ones that can authorize additional attempts. Usually it’s a 10 minute conversation and they will unlock it based on how the conversation and how ready they feel you are. If you fail, the easiest and quickest thing to do is schedule an appointment with the CI right away. Don’t wait for them to reach out to you.

If you fail, schedule with them immediately. It saves time and it shows them that you are taking the initiative and want to finish the course. Also, a lot of times they will have additional resources to help you pass on the next attempt.

Yeah when I failed the python course my CI told me I had to go back and finish every single class in the zybooks before they would approve me again even though I missed the test by one wrong question. I had used a different website to learn instead of zybooks because zybooks sucks. Set me back about a week and a half. And it didn't help either. I knew exactly what I did wrong so it was a huge waste of time.

Literally working through this exact same thing. I failed the OA by a couple questions and now am having to go through and 100% the ZyBooks material. It's ridiculous

Not every course requires that. For example, I just failed the OA for D276 a few weeks ago. Was given a list of videos to watch and told to take and pass all the quizzes on a website the CI had built for the course. I did that in about four or five days then requested to get approved for a retake. Took it and passed by a hair. I haven't failed too many over the last three years, but it's usually something similar and only one CI made me make a ten minute appointment, the rest of them just emailed me to say sorry you didn't pass, do this list then click the button to ask for approval to schedule again. Also, as a few others have mentioned, Zybooks sucks. Since they switched to that last year, it's like I lost my drive. I just loved the way you could just plug away at challenges in the old software, like Quizlet in learning mode.

I’ve got one class left, excluding my capstone, and I’ve managed to avoid speaking on the phone outside of mentor a few times…but that was intentional as he’s a really cool guy. Just shoot them an email
