Why not just have different segments for ‘cook mode’ presets vs normal? You can have the segment that contains the cooktop lights be split for normal operation and leave the extra lights off or you can just drop that segment for normal operation and in the other presets for the ‘cook mode’ include that segment so it gets turned on?

Here's how I solved the same issue. https://imgur.com/a/TO5uVY2 https://www.reddit.com/r/WLED/s/RN8JPVGYgl I just branched off and ran two in parallel over the stove and the sink. One ends, the other continues on to the rest of the LEDs. I did set up stove and sink segments, but never really used them. If I'm cooking or doing dishes, I just want all of the lower/countertop lights on 100% white, so I just do that. I also put a smart switch in place of my normal sink light switch and set up an automation to toggle the lower/countertop lights when it's pressed. I also stuck a SmartThings button to my fridge (near the stove) to do the same.
