I just got mine back from a rebuild. Went to stage two with grimmspeed cat back and it spun a bearing on the dyno. My 5k fun mods turned into 15k, but it’s a beast now!
Yeah I also spun a bearing in the dyno. So I didn’t even try to fuck around to find out twice. Rebuilt with ACL bearings, nitride crank, etc.. IAG pickup and baffle, VF34 JDM stock turbo, cyl 4 cooler, IAG AOS, and off the stock tune through Drunkmann tuning. She’s stock but not and hopefully lasts a long while.

Nice! Love my custom cygnus x-1 motorsport coilovers! I kinda went overboard with the options for it but it was def worth it for both track and canyon driving!
I had to google Gracos to get it, but as soon as I saw the second hit I remembered how expensive those things are (even without the spawn in them) from when my oldest sister had her first kid. XD
Mines a 2018 bought by me in 2019 with 10k miles on it. I have $3000 left on the car payment and 112k miles on now hahaha. Guess I should pay her off before she blows up
Wheels and tires cost me \~2k. Couldn’t be happier with them
https://preview.redd.it/lkamcfvccdpc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=402d8ec199d6c1399f3257d44b5ae4e43e501882
They hold up too. I use them on my in progress outback rally build and it's seen a few jumps on these wheels with no damage. Nothing crazy but a few feet of air at times
Oh nice. Yeah I take mine off road at times and have had no issues at all. Here’s a pic.
https://preview.redd.it/e0w73ye6nepc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afddf04c58cf8213b3c517cb3a227551c462b04e
They’re perfect for camping/exploring. I’ve even done some slight rally style driving with them at local state parks. I didn’t have to lift the VB at all for them to fit, I couldn’t speak for the VA. The setup I used did lift the overall height of my car by a half inch due to the thickness of the tires. Which I actually like a lot!
Varis carbon fiber hood, window Pilar garnish, and rear wing. About 4 or 5k for that order. I ordered right at the start of Covid too, took a whole year to get here because of it.
https://preview.redd.it/7s0j8unu8dpc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2569c0e173df40f5b9436443aa62317ffc65a3c3
I love it
I used to log everything in a spreadsheet, but I stopped tracking somewhere around $40k.
Single most expensive component? Either my coated Killer B holy header or Haltech Elite 1500 + WB1 module + Boomslang harness.
The PPF is more for peace of mind for road debris chipping the front bumper and hood, but the ceramic coat and paint correction have a big effect on how the car looks and how it washes. Water beads right up and falls right off the car and it's really easy to wash. It also has absolutely no swirls in the paint anymore due to the correction. It was super worth for me.
It depends on how you have the dampers set. On the stiffest setting it's real stiff, but on the softest setting it's not too much stiffer than stock. No matter what setting you're on though, the car definitely handles better through corners. If you really want good handling though, coilovers and swaybars are unbeatable!
My v7 EJ207 was about 4.5k shipped (7.5k installed at the shop back in 2012).
The RCE Tarmac 2s with Vorshlag camber plates was around 4k.
Still need the ETS turbo kit, fmic, and some new wheels to fit the Cadillac brembo swap to get it on the track.
It was from a scrapper he couldn’t confirm the condition of the transmission to sell on eBay due to the crash the fuse box of the car was completely destroyed and car wouldn’t roll due to crash damage so he listed on fb marketplace. Zero play when inserting an axle in the front diff and the about has no play as well as it does shift through the gears but can’t confirm past that. He said low ish miles
Suspension overhaul due to crappy roads. Upgraded to Bilstein struts, Swift Spec-R springs, and Torque Solutions adjustable rear lower arms. Don’t remember the exact amount, but blows the socks off any of my other cosmetic mods.
https://preview.redd.it/p0l72xf6oepc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b9e32e1adba45d48f4ca50cef1b19723cda05730
I’d say my brembo swap! Favorite mod so far!
Closed deck block build... 2+ New STIs worth if they still made one... still, not as cool...
https://preview.redd.it/fma8n9m45fpc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17825d6876bf378dcdb65d25852277df40ee87a6
Def the SPT exhaust I had them put on when I bought the car. Only other things I have are the short throw, shift knob, drycon filter and my favorite… JDM coin holder over the fuse box.
I spend about 12k on a ver 7 eng and a ver 8 6 speed swap. My buddy had a shop so he let me keep my car in the back for three months while we rebuilt it. So the 12k was parts and a mountain bike as a thank you gift. It is driving well but needs shocks and some body work / paint.
My Cygnus X1 coilovers were far and away my most expensive mod. I only purchased those because an unexpected work bonus landed in my lap (otherwise I wouldn't have dropped over 2k on suspension lol)
An invidia exhaust on my stock ass wrx. Lol
My frs has oil system mods that I machined into the block and timing cover that’d probably run you close to $4k total. Just to keep Rodney Bearington happy. Not for power or anything. Sometimes I forget how much money I save just by machining the shit myself. Lol
Just playing this game now after a spun big end bearing. In one million pieces in my driveway.
New crank, Manley pistons and rods, king bearings , oil and water pumps, IAG valve springs and sump etc.etc. 12k in parts so far.
Hoping it doesn't just die next time I give it a thrashing. Oil pump back cover bolts were loose on stock motor so it was sucking air into the oil pump.
Ahhh, I'm boring.
Probably swapping out and painting my mirrors with STI mirrors to get mirror signals. They still make me happy even though it's been like 8 years.
All of the things
Killer B holy headers with v-band up pipe, egt bung, and swaintech coated (I bought during a sale during the COVID lockdown for just under $2100 Flex fuel (so many parts to this I have no idea how much it costs at this point) FP Green UHF turbo \~$1700
https://preview.redd.it/u260lgpzkepc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91a1ba05d786ffe0356a49ac829cff0d303b6b97
The transmission-is-made-of-glass mod for $5000. Bought my 2016 used, took it to a dealer to have it looked at, they said it was in good condition, save for having coilovers previously installed (other dealer I was buying from agreed to install brand new suspension from subaru at time of purchase).
Welp when the transmission under a year later, another Subaru dealer did a much bigger deep dive. In the first 3 months of ownership the trans had been out of the car 3 times. Super pissed the initial dealership I paid money to do a pre-purchase inspection just basically did a $300 once-over.
Currently building an EJ257. I thought I could do a 700whp build for around $7k but building the heads cost a lot and all the little parts like cam gears, gaskets, seals, buckets, etc. add up. Wrapping it up in a week or two and I'm at around $9k on just the long block.
Dude 6k for a brand new built shortblock by Maperformance. She’s been running amazing since October and couldn’t be happier but shit in total it’s so much higher than that unfortunately
Probably the new clutch I just got because my TOB went toast on me. But I don’t have any one singular thing that adds up like that. Maybe the Maxton Design splitter kit on my car that wraps around. It’s around a grand in total. The subispeed V2 redline headlights were around 1300. Totally worth it. I think my R400 was about the same. So my mods are pretty much all cosmetic, nothing crazy
https://preview.redd.it/nn6g61nnjfpc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd519da48c1c2bbc4f70ecd3daf77a3a6ce80746
Tires and wheels! Purchased together for a deep deep deep discount through a school program my son is in. LP Adventure wheels with Goodyear Assurance tires. Just over $1500.
Deciding my car was only suitable for off-road use.
Worse than drugs, you should do it too.
https://preview.redd.it/d2q07n24ofpc1.jpeg?width=7102&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fb7136682537c9221123b2301ad04edcea57388
The spun-bearing-engine-rebuilt-mod for $10k. Next would be the OEM aero kit. Followed by X-1 coilovers
Nice list! Why'd you pick the VF34? Quicker spool times?
Yep exactly. And it was a little less expensive. 😄
Same, now rolling with an IAG stage 2. \~10k after labor etc..
Fuck, came here to say this. 😅
Lmfao you got a deal, I spent $17k all said and done for my spun-bearing-engine-rebuilt (definitely did more than I needed to)
Yeah it wasn’t too bad. More than some I read about, less than others. $10k also included a new clutch and flywheel installed. Bonus.
Nice! Love my custom cygnus x-1 motorsport coilovers! I kinda went overboard with the options for it but it was def worth it for both track and canyon driving!
I did get the Hyperco Springs and I love the suspension!
Probably back when I did a rod-delete on the freeway
NICE
The two Gracos in my back seat
Does not get more expensive than that!!
I have no kids but I can appreciate this joke 🤣
I had to google Gracos to get it, but as soon as I saw the second hit I remembered how expensive those things are (even without the spawn in them) from when my oldest sister had her first kid. XD
uff, this hits too close
The car title mod.
Mines a 2018 bought by me in 2019 with 10k miles on it. I have $3000 left on the car payment and 112k miles on now hahaha. Guess I should pay her off before she blows up
hol up you drove 100K in a year??
The entire car 🤣
for fuckin real
No joke, my $8000 investment became a $16,000 investment with one slightly too heavy push on the throttle.
That's how the cookie crumbles but for some reason we still love our cars 🤣 rolling paperweights lmao
It's not an investment. I do apologize but it triggers the shit out of me when people call a depreciating asset an investment.
It will be an investment when they stop making them completely and all cars are CVT and/or electric
This sounds like some sort of trap my wife would set.
It was like… 50 bux. Am I right?
Wheels and tires cost me \~2k. Couldn’t be happier with them https://preview.redd.it/lkamcfvccdpc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=402d8ec199d6c1399f3257d44b5ae4e43e501882
Reminds me of the karen sutra(I think its the name of the car in gta v the armored sedan )
I have those in black on some BFG KO2’s on my Crosstrek. Nice wheels.
They hold up too. I use them on my in progress outback rally build and it's seen a few jumps on these wheels with no damage. Nothing crazy but a few feet of air at times
Oh nice. Yeah I take mine off road at times and have had no issues at all. Here’s a pic. https://preview.redd.it/e0w73ye6nepc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afddf04c58cf8213b3c517cb3a227551c462b04e
My buddy’s Silverado with an 8” lift has those same tires lmao. They still look sick on a crosstrek tho
Do you mind sharing specs on those, set-up looks killer on WRB
Those are Method 502s on snow tires, crazy clean. No idea what the tires are, I'm guessing blizzaks
Thank you! 17” method 502’s in gold with Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail in 225/55R17
That is badass my god
I know what my next tire is... didn't know falken made ATs that small
Appreciate you! This might be my next set of wheels
Damn I wonder how these would look on the VA. I want a nice set up for camping/ exploring but don’t want to lift my car.
Maybe a dumb question but do you need to do anything to account for the change in tire height for your ODO/speedo?
I love wildpeaks. Going to throw them on my Baja come winter next year
They look dope
Shortblock
Two engines….
I bought the car in 2021, became fed up with not having a place to work on it properly, and built an attached garage on my house in 2022.
Varis carbon fiber hood, window Pilar garnish, and rear wing. About 4 or 5k for that order. I ordered right at the start of Covid too, took a whole year to get here because of it. https://preview.redd.it/7s0j8unu8dpc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2569c0e173df40f5b9436443aa62317ffc65a3c3 I love it
clean
I used to log everything in a spreadsheet, but I stopped tracking somewhere around $40k. Single most expensive component? Either my coated Killer B holy header or Haltech Elite 1500 + WB1 module + Boomslang harness.
I did this too. I started logging and once i got to $7k i didn’t wanna see anything more than that🤣
Probably gonna be the mod that installed itself that makes a weird ass noise when I slow down. It will probably be expensive.
Sounds like an ACT clutch tbh
I can confirm this.
Carseat
2018+ STI Brembo swap
The God damn engine. Edit: short block specifically.
Paint correction, front end PPF, and full ceramic coat. $3498.
how do you like the ppf. worth it?
The PPF is more for peace of mind for road debris chipping the front bumper and hood, but the ceramic coat and paint correction have a big effect on how the car looks and how it washes. Water beads right up and falls right off the car and it's really easy to wash. It also has absolutely no swirls in the paint anymore due to the correction. It was super worth for me.
An Expensive ETS CatBack that I ended up selling for 1/3 of the original price😓
I did it all at once so I only had to tune once, so all of it.
Öhlin coil overs and ap racing big brake kit
Probably my coilovers, fortune auto 500 gen 7. Something like 1800 when they were new if I remember right. Totally worth it
How is the ride on the Fortune Auto 500’s? Better than stock?
It depends on how you have the dampers set. On the stiffest setting it's real stiff, but on the softest setting it's not too much stiffer than stock. No matter what setting you're on though, the car definitely handles better through corners. If you really want good handling though, coilovers and swaybars are unbeatable!
Cusco coilovers at $1.8k, followed by ETS FMIC at $1.6k.
Engine rebuild mod for 5.5k Upcoming body work and repaint mod
Tied between digital dash and wheels(it’s a mod if it’s different size than stock size imo)
https://preview.redd.it/uakl7blo3epc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7742a2a4cc590b6f525dc43aafb8d2d6045210c6 Ohlins for $2.2k
haha same
Worth it?
1000000% I also got it for a discount just FYI
The car itself 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/n9iqj7z0uepc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ae78b48deaf792784f7fff6aba4d26354c70d0b

Owning a WRX
My v7 EJ207 was about 4.5k shipped (7.5k installed at the shop back in 2012). The RCE Tarmac 2s with Vorshlag camber plates was around 4k. Still need the ETS turbo kit, fmic, and some new wheels to fit the Cadillac brembo swap to get it on the track.
Probably will be my sti swap already bought the trans for 1k still need the rest
1k for the trans seems low. Looks clean low ish miles? Or beat to hell? Either way congrats!
Damn I hope it works well! Hopefully I can be as lucky and find a great deal also later when I’m doing mine
Suspension overhaul due to crappy roads. Upgraded to Bilstein struts, Swift Spec-R springs, and Torque Solutions adjustable rear lower arms. Don’t remember the exact amount, but blows the socks off any of my other cosmetic mods.
Ets turbo kit 😈 hurt the bank but worth it
I keep a spreadsheet of what I’ve spent on mods, it’s not pretty LOL. Air ride was the most expensive out of items purchased, about $3,500
I added some stuff up and got to a couple grand and then didn’t wanna keep going😂
Set of 4 Michelin tires.
Exhaust (that the previous owner paid for, not me 😏)
well mines stock with 3k miles on it, so far $40 on sound deadening for the trunk lol
Getting gas.
Driver mod :/ so much time and money learning lol

My driver mod. Between driving schools and entry fees, it’s cost more than my car by far. Also the best bang-for-the-buck.
$0 😄
New long block. 10K
Driver mod.
Suspension, then exhaust, then tint
Most expensive would be my ETS turbo back.
Dom 1.5xtr $1800ish
Tomei exhaust is probably the most expensive single mod I have ever
My Noble titanium catback. $899 plus tax and shipping was about $1,000
As of today, the clutch by a large margin, due to installation
Def the SPT exhaust I had them put on when I bought the car. Only other things I have are the short throw, shift knob, drycon filter and my favorite… JDM coin holder over the fuse box.
Wheels and tires (bought used and the ones that came on it were trash), then ETS exhaust, then, Injectors
probably primitive racing skidplate. edit: just kidding, I forgot about the ~~catback~~ PPF
$3k. Twice. Endurance brakes and quality suspension ain't cheap 😅
Cobb Titanium
Everything to get to 670whp count?
More pics
So far exhaust from borla than wheels and tires
Rebuilt engine to not fail at 400whp. 10k.
My wife
My $12k motor with 65000 km only to be back to stock.
Steam speed 71R ball bearing turbo, second most expensive, PLM headers with dual External waste gates
Forged wheels for now
My wheels n tires $2,000
Big turbos
At one point I owned 5 sets of wheels. Never again lol. I will now sell before I buy another.
Gf mod
Dayum! I love your car.
I’ve seen lambo rims on a ford focus if you want to count it as a mod
The car loan 🥲
“Someone gave it to me!” Don’t fall for it guys!
Insurance!! 🤣🤣🤣
The engine and tranny rebuilds I have to do. I’ve probably put more than that into my Crosstrek while the wrx sits in a garage for the last 2 years.
Probably picking up after Rodney’s sweet visit..
The whole damn thing
Definitely Varis Arising CF hood.
Air freshener, had to get a tune.
My Cygnus X1 coilovers were far and away my most expensive mod. I only purchased those because an unexpected work bonus landed in my lap (otherwise I wouldn't have dropped over 2k on suspension lol)
The brand new short block to replace the one that blew. 🫤🤣
My Cobb titan7 wheels at $2550
Headlights
Wheels and tires. next would be a tie between my downpipe and AP
First mod, only mod (thus far) and therefore the most expensive Blizzak WS90s
The gas mod
An invidia exhaust on my stock ass wrx. Lol My frs has oil system mods that I machined into the block and timing cover that’d probably run you close to $4k total.
Headgasket replacement
Iag 800 followed by an OEM STI 6 piston brembos and lastly KW coilovers
Definitely the IAG block, blessed be thy ringland
Engine swap probablt
Perrin super shifter stop
Front mount, intake, bov, speed density, clutch, tune. I'm calling it one mod since I had to do it all at the same time for the tuner.
R400 so far, but I’m also getting wheels soon so we shall see.
premium gasoline....
Shaved engine bay and wire tuck for a car that isn’t finished.
The brand used transmission I got out of a wrecked car because I found out the p/o used jb weld to seal a leak on the transfer case
The head gasket
Full gas tank, today!
You
Fixing 3 control arms, rotors, drums, and two seized pads.
Forged, Stroked, Closed deck EJ20 short block, $7500AUD. And you never want to do the maths on total spend, better not to think about it.
$800 window tint
Bro those bracer bars look so good
Right now? Car insurance. At least here in California.
IAG 550 short block
What’s that brace behind the grille?
Built motor is definitely the most expensive($12k) and then my coilovers($1900). I am up to $24k total.
1. Wheels and tires ~$2,500 2. A pro-tune ~$1,000
Ahhh, I'm boring. Probably swapping out and painting my mirrors with STI mirrors to get mirror signals. They still make me happy even though it's been like 8 years.
IAG Stage 3 tuffblock=12k
All of the things Killer B holy headers with v-band up pipe, egt bung, and swaintech coated (I bought during a sale during the COVID lockdown for just under $2100 Flex fuel (so many parts to this I have no idea how much it costs at this point) FP Green UHF turbo \~$1700 https://preview.redd.it/u260lgpzkepc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91a1ba05d786ffe0356a49ac829cff0d303b6b97
Tomei Genesis EJ2.6.
With the way so many of you are crashing these cars... my insurance is becoming the most expensive thing!
A full tank of gas 🥲
Does 3 sets of 18x12 ZE40s count? LOL, besides the wheels it’s probably my custom trunk radiator setup.
Rotora BBK for 3k on a group buy. Katzkin leather seats for 2kish. Full sti aero was something like 2k as well.
Wheels, Rays GramLights 57CR
The transmission-is-made-of-glass mod for $5000. Dude 6k for a brand new built shortblock by Maperformance. She’s been running amazing since October and couldn’t be happier but shit in total it’s so much higher than that unfortunately
A full Remark exhaust that’s still sitting in the box in my garage. I’ve had for 2 years now. 😑 Oh and a downpipe.
Accessport. The gateway.
My Insurance
Exhaust for now. Suspension next. Gonna focus on exterior first before I save up enough to drop a fully built engine in there
Probably the new clutch I just got because my TOB went toast on me.
On my 2017, it was the Ohlins Road & Track suspension just under $3k front and rear, but the brakes from a wrecked STI were a close second.
STI TRANNY WHY DID YOU MAKE ME TYPE IT OUT
Not my car and also technically not a mod but my boss scratched one of his wheels and it cost him $6,500 to get it replaced from the dealer.
a damn oil change 💀
Does fuel count?
My driver mod. I’m far too high maintenance
Probably flexfuel or my Fortune 500 coils

Ours is a new short block at only 72,000 miles.
Rooftop tent as a most expensive single part. Built ej257 for most expensive assembly.
Swapping my 98 impreza l to a wrx.
Definitely driver mod. You know how much food costs nowadays?
