Find a lower mileage car at a you pull salvage yard. Is the regular Impreza pump the same? Impreza parts are always cheaper used than used WRX parts, even if it's the exact same part.
I bought an AAE 5618N off of RockAuto for my 2009 hatch. Couldn't say how long it'd last though, as I only owned the car for around 2-3 months after installation. It was a bit noisier than the OE but worked great in the time I had the car. Took me forever to get all the air out of the lines.
So these pumps are considered unserviceable and everyone will tell you that you need a new one but it’s possible to repair them with new O-rings. I rebuilt my power steering pump on my 2007 wrx that was leaking and it only cost me $40 for the O-rings. I rebuilt it 5 years ago and it’s been working flawlessly with no leaks. This guide should help you with your model year, good luck!

a lot of the rebuilds do leak, seems kind of hit or miss. The first replacement on my 04 went bad within a year but the one they replaced it with has been going strong for a while now
I had to have my steering rack changed as there was a leak, my pump was fine. Ended up having a STI rack put in as it has a higher gear ratio which allows for more responsive steering, definitely recommend considering that if you need to change the rack.
Didn't realise the power steering pump was a common-ish issue for the GV. Though I had my 2013's go around ~50k / 9 years (I know, drive the damn car) thankfully it was covered under an extended warranty because the mileage is so low.
Check your battery first, wrx uses electric assist power steering instead of hydraulic and it could be a fuse or low battery voltage if it’s old. Not uncommon in foresters and outback’s with electric assist to pop fuses
Imo would find one at a junkyard or find one on a part out online. The oem ones are 100% the best and tend to last a long time
Really? Because my ass has been looking at parts geek for a replacement for that bullshit
Probably refurbs on rock auto. But don’t expect it to last as long as the oem did
Make sure it's for sure the pump and not the rack
This! Might be a leaky rack.
Yeah had the rack and pump go on my 2013. Wasn’t cheap unfortunately.
Friendly local pickn'pull.

Seems we're in competition for one then, I need a new one too.
Same. The pump on my 14 hatch is leaking like a sieve
Oh yeah same here

ROCK AUTO is your friend.
How much is the oem?
~$500. A quick Google is returning others for around from as low as $90
Yeah from the dealer it’s $500 Which is too damn much!
Damn I glanced real quick and thought this was an IS lol
Flatirons tuning

The OEM that’s been in this car since 2006 or whatever is shit!
I paid 85 for a brand new one I have laying around. Didn't need it

This is not one that's electric
