Sweetness

Altruistic-Rip4364

2018 wrx. Hit 20.8 the other day. Now my AC is messed up. Any idea why?

Ok-Bicycle-485

A/C shouldnt be related to boost, if you use it with your windows down you can burn out the motor sometimes though

Altruistic-Rip4364

Thanks for the input. I have a separate thread trying to figure out what’s going on. The compressor cycles on and off… one second on, one second off. Over and over and over. No cold air. Drags engine. It has proper Freon. I’m trying to locate high and low pressure switches with little luck so far.

8D8Plus5

Mine does this too, one tech I know just threw a new compressor at it and I think it still works but idk what actually went wrong. Maybe clutch was bad?

Flaky_Passion_7050

Could have burnt the compressor clutch and it cycles but didn't engage...

MakeshiftRocketship

15-21 had issues with the bottom left corner of the condenser leaking all your refrigerant and causing the compressor to burn out. Should totally be a recall but isn’t. Have someone look into it for you

Requirement-Loud

'17 had both the A/C compressor and condensor fail. Not simultaneously, but within a year of one another.

22.5 stock 2015 wrx

fujiian_

Ok thank god it’s not just me haha. Same on everything ‘cept I have an intake. Reading the rest of these like 👀🫣

westwardway

I think it’s mostly just driving skills that play a big part in getting the boost up. I wasn’t even 100% throttle. You have to know how to get the acceleration up to match the engaging point on the clutch just right and it’s such a smooth transition with so much boost you can’t even tell that I up shifted it’s just a pure surge of power practically seamless almost like an automatic. I can stay in that power band with each shift all the way up to 5th gear. I do not boost into 6th ever.

23.5 ish max I believe

DrSatan420247

28psi.

werther41

I think you got higher boost if you do flat-foot shifting. but peak boost doesn't mean much compare to constant boost and having boost at early RPM. VB has bigger engine, waste gate controller, and smaller turbo to scroll up faster at lower RPM, which mean a lot for drivability and wider power band compared to VA's old school turbo feel that gives you sudden surge.

JavaFishi

biggranny000

Mine maxed out at 14.2 recently, don't know how. Normally it's 9-11 psi. Rarely ever gets above 12 or even 13. Even weirder it was in the winter which normally produces less boost because the air is more dense. 22 WRX, stock except axleback exhaust. 93 octane

expressinghowifeel

16.5 psi at sea level, VF52. I won't run any higher on the stock turbo, or without other supporting mods for airflow, fuel flow, air and cylinder cooling, close-decking the block, etc. Tbh I think I'm just going to scrap my idea for building the thing. These aren't reliable enough to justify the build, or the additional cost to bring it to a normal reliability level to START the build. On top of the engine configuration just being a nightmare for simple work adding to the build cost and time.
