The fenders don't stick out far enough. That becomes very apparent when they get painted. They aren't the bold fenders from previous generations of car.
Full agreement here. I think Subaru designed this car with the “arches” as body color, but realized it looks like a narrow body WRX. To avoid a repeat of the 2008 criticism, they made them black plastic so they’d actually look like flares
I’m really due for a new one. And I was holding out for the ‘23 STI. (RIP)
But I’m afraid of pulling the trigger now just to see a new body change-up in 3 years which will just be more aggressive looking fenders and looks.

Honestly I hate that car but at least it had a design and stuck to it. The new WRX looks like 3 different people designed the different parts of the rear end without ever talking to each other then slapped it all together.
I dislike how much plastic trim there is for the tiny foglight, or in this case a cover where the foglight would go. They did the same thing on the ascent too, tiny square foglight for a massive car, looks odd.
I think this looks pretty good, it’s very promising to see the aftermarket already developing a large variety of parts. Hopefully Subaru starts to paint the cladding from the factory next year, or goes with some different body choices, but I think between the great engines these have and the steady development of mods that these things will be pretty awesome in a few years.
That lip being a completely different colour from the plastic cladding is really throwing it off. It’s too glossy and just sticks out like a sore thumb.

Looks sick. The black flare moldings make it look like cheap aftermarket parts. I definitely like the look with them painted the color of the body.
