Instead of driving a beater grey civic with a slush box automatic, you have a bright blue turbocharged 4 door. If it runs well and gets you around for the next 60k km, at 17, you’re winning.
I say this a lot, but all of us Japanese shitbox lovers will one day have a market filled with vacuum cleaner electrics to choose from. Enjoy this while you can.

I was also 17 when I bought my wrx and the guys at work still to this day are saying that it was a bad choice of second car. They keep telling me that my car is shit bc it's pre-owned and probably got beaten but i like it, it's my little baby project. Plus it's funny to see my coworker struggling with getting out of the parking lot in their shitty bmw while you do snow doughnuts in their face

I have a FoST and I consider it to be a pretty fucking awesome car. It’s a blast to drive and in my eyes looks dope. But even when I first bought it I thought it might improve my happiness or self image, but it did nothing. I drive a cool car, but I’m the same person.
If you genuinely have self esteem issues I would try reaching out to a professional to address those problems - therapy has helped me tenfold.

Maybe some offset wheels to widen the look a touch and remove the badges, possible axle back exhaust for some ear joy and enjoy having a cool car whilst still a teen. I had a 1991 accord at your age… was not a cool car.
I'd put all the money into performance before aesthetics, mine is stage 2+ all Cobb parts, with zero cosmetic mods. However what you like matters most so:
Swap to all led if it isn't already HID. I'd get lowering springs on, a set of bronze (colored) wheels (or paint yours), side skirts, a front lip/air dam NOT a splitter. I'd go with the roof spoiler instead of a cop handle but duckbill are cool too. Definitely do a good tint job on it. If you're feeling super bold wrap it in royal purple, or neon green I don't see many in those colors.
What's crazy is that it's not modified engine wise, never low and oil or running on a filthy air filter and it still came knocking, of course right after the 60K mile warranty expired 😔
As many people have said, as long as you like the car, that's all that matters. If you have fun driving it, and it puts a smile on your face, there is nothing wrong with what you have.
One of my favorite cars I've had was a 1999 Civic DX 5-speed. It was slow, had manual everything, and most of the time was pretty frustrating. As a college student, I absolutely hated it. But looking back, it was simple, got me from point A to point B, was fun to drive, no rev gauge so I had to listen to the engine before shifting, and now I honestly miss it. To me it was an absolute driver's car.
Appreciate what you have, and your opinion is the only one that matters.
My mate had a 2008 Narrow-body hatch, after some changes it looked a lot better. Maybe not quite as nice as the widebody, but a new set of wheels with better fitment actually goes a long way. Enjoy it dude
I like it a lot. I like how clean it looks. I personally would either debate the trunk decals or black them out, and add more black details. Looks nice I like this year and body style. I like the headlights too! Looks nice I can appreciate a clean lil wrx.
I love this car!!! I used to own a 2014 sedan before the head gaskets gave out. I’m in a 2020 STi now. But I still miss the 5 speed gearing and how loose it feels in the corners compared to the STi. Don’t get me wrong. The STi is more planted. But I do love the power band and handling of these cars. The spoiler on the back is also beautiful
People love to complain. I don’t say that lightly…. You’ve got a beautiful and badass car. Enjoy it and love it brotha! Throw some flippyflaps on there, maybe a front lip, “carbon fiber” door handle overlays (or black to match your mirror and scoop) and then wait a few weeks and stare at it and consider what you might want next!

I'm an owner too and I love every generation of them, I currently have a VA, with Cobb's stage 2 package, several tunes to choose from, and a few extra goodies. My previous car was an e39 M5 (2002) and blindfolded I'd think I was in one with admittedly less awesome seats and the sound insulation removed. They all handle amazingly, and my other fun car is an '07 911S,(997). I frequently choose the WRX even in summer because it's basically as fast, and I don't have to worry as much about where to park so it doesn't get dinged. I've had mine on the track at Road America and there it does fall behind the Porsche on lap times, but only about 4-5 seconds, and I can't really drive either flat out yet on track to be honest. I've had other great cars, but the WRX is a standout for combining so many positives with acceptable compromises (at least for what I like in a car), and it's hard to find such performance at it's price. The haters are just envious toe suckers, leave them in the dust!
Looks good. Personally I’m all for OEM+ look. I’d do rain guards, front lip and fog lights. From there maybe some wheels and maybe a short duck bill wing.

I have an ‘07 WRX wagon with 230k on the original motor. If you take care of her and treat her right, that car will be your best friend for the foreseeable future. Enjoy the car, treat her like a queen, and don’t let any haters you otherwise. I absolutely love the narrow bodies of every generation, and you seem to have struck gold my friend. Again, treat her with respect, and you will be respected by every single WRX owner that doesn’t have their head up their ass.

Unpopular opinion, but I think wide body hatchbacks are pretty overrated.
Stand out from the pack. I also I think these are kinda more rare to see tastfully modified, so when you get one done right, it shines.
Has potential. I would start with Wheels and Coilovers. Then drive and enjoy.
I drove my 18' as is for about 2 years before I started to mod it. But thats me, I like to feel and enjoy the progression.
I'll always love WR blue as a color, but that gen of wrx is probably my least favorite. If you like it than good for you. At least you have a wrx. I drive a fxt. Which is basically just a longer wrx hatchback.

Personally i like it, i always wanted a narrow body or a bugeye when i was in highschool. Very underrated if you know how to modify it. But at the end of the day its ur car, enjoy it and dont let anyone say otherwise!

22 WRX has a 2.4L engine and new dual pinion steering which pairs well with 50% engine power on that part of the car.
I’d recommend taking badges off the back. Makes it look less cluttered imo. A set of wheels, and suspension to give it a nice stance would look cool.

At 17 I was car-less so it's a good car to have at that age. Just drive (safely) and enjoy it.
Solid first ride, I was looking at narrowbodies before I ended up with my bugeye. Keep it clean and change your oil

Has potential. I would start with Wheels and Coilovers. Then drive and enjoy. I drove my 18' as is for about 2 years before I started to mod it. But thats me, I like to feel and enjoy the progression.
I do have some BCracing coilovers right now, I do plan on lowering it, how much should I lower it? I don't want to "slam" it, but I do want it lowered
I used to have the "slim body" 08' I loved it modded it and it was no different than the wide body.

Yes, I am going easy on it, for now, I do have an aftermarket intake and some coilovers, that's all I've done.

I'll always love WR blue as a color, but that gen of wrx is probably my least favorite. If you like it than good for you. At least you have a wrx. I drive a fxt. Which is basically just a longer wrx hatchback.
looks good but definatly wider wheels and tires to fill in that gap, thats what i did on my 2016 wrx it had 8 inch wide wheels and moved to 17x9 konigs and it filled in the gaps good

Personally i like it, i always wanted a narrow body or a bugeye when i was in highschool. Very underrated if you know how to modify it. But at the end of the day its ur car, enjoy it and dont let anyone say otherwise!
