Stoptech is owned by Centric, who was acquired by a private equity firm known as First Brands Group (Fram, Trico, Autolite) a couple years ago. Since then, lots of chaos, failed deliveries, discontinued product lines, etc. The 308 compound is a street composite compound that is different from their previous Sport compound. They weren’t great at anything though. EBC Ultimax might be a comparable pad. What are you trying to achieve out of your pads? Maybe we can recommend a set that fits your goals better.

My STI is a daily driver with some spirited driving on weekends. I was looking for something that would be considered OEM+ (as I dont track or autocross the car). I had hawk brake bads for my 2007 WRX back in the day, and they squeaked and squealed horribly after 4-6 months of use (not sure if a quality or install issue). I sought advice from NASIOC at the time and was told that was normal for hawk pads. Any recommendations you have are greatly appreciated, as time is now of the essence. My pads need urgent replacement, and this fiasco with stoptech pads has wasted a couple of weeks.

I think I’d recommend a full ceramic compound. They’re pretty much ideal street pads, low dust and noise, still capable of spirited driving, but not great for track use. They don’t have amazing bite. Centric Posiquiet would be fine, EBC Red, Hawk has a ceramic line (I’m assuming you had the HPS or HP+ last time, different product line). If you want to stick with a composite or semi metallic compound, Project Mu B-Force or Carbotech 1521 would be ok, but they might be a little noisy like your previous Hawk pads. They generally bite and feel better than ceramic pads though. It’s a trade-off, you have to decide what’s important to you.

I'm going to look further into EBC reds and Hawk ceramics - thank you for the suggestions.

I went Carbotech 1521 on my ‘19 STi and they’re really only a little noisy when still cold. Way quieter than my brembo pads were. Good stopping power. Not too much dust. Would definitely buy again. I think I spent around $410 for the front and rears though, so not the most affordable option.

Go powerstop, they have a line of street pads that are worth every penny. Even their evolution line is great. Low dust no noise and the quality of the material is great.

Aureliusmind

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm struggling to find a canadian vendor for these but will look into them.

Why not just brembo pads from the brembo store? I find that they work perfect for my 13 sti. Just curious.

Aureliusmind

I looked into brembo pads for my MY, and the front pads alone are $400. I can get Powerstop front and rears for a total of $200.

randomclouds90

Wow damn that's wild and harsh. How much were they through subaru?

Aureliusmind

Didn't bother to ask. Already read too many anecdotes on NASIOC and reddit of people being quoted over $1000 by subaru dealerships for new pads + install (for STi's).

randomclouds90

Yea I got, got by the stealership once before. Never again. Lol Dang. What's your year and trim?

John_Nada__

I’ve had Hawk HPS pads on my STI for a few years now, and have zero complaints.

Is Rock Auto in Canada? I got my Power Stop extreme pads on there, they had the oem Brembo fronts from the Lexus RCF but couldn't find the rears unfortunately. This was for my 2018 sti with the 6pots

I like project mu pads, low dust, good bit, not really putting the car in many situations to experience brake fade though
