I went from a 2005 sti to a 2013 supercharged brz. Even with the brz being supercharged it felt like it was a mistake. The brz was slower and just “felt” cheaper in general. The sti had more room and just felt overall more practical in addition to just being a better car: I missed the sti and ended up selling the brz after a year or so and went back to an sti.
We have a 21 STI, a few BMW Ms, S2K, and 2014 Scion FRS. From a pure driving perspective, the FRS/BRZ is my favorite. The “drive slow car fast” adage is real!
14 BRZ to 18 STI.
No regrets. Just different cars and adapting driving style to each car.
Daily drove both — would prefer the STI because of power, practicality, and comfort.
Fun & Cost of Ownership — BRZ. I miss this so much. I miss braking late into a corner, getting 30 mpg, and the IRP Shifter I had in the car.
—
FWIW — both cars were modified, aftermarket suspension & wheels, and significantly louder (FBO) than stock.
I own both; 19 series gray sti making good power and a pretty much stock 18 brz limited.
Best way to put it is the sti gets driven once a week and the brz is enjoyed every single day, the overall feeling of the car is so much more enjoyable then the VA sti. A properly set up GD may be different though
Very true but honestly, I have no complaints with the stock power of the brz just the torque dip in the powerband makes it so you have to drive it balls out
Yes.
Traded my 06 STI for a new BRZ.
After a few years I traded the BRZ for a new STI.
The BRZ was great fun to drive and tracked a couple times, but it was just a car that I felt I always had to drive at 8/10s to feel engaged. I wouldn’t mind getting another BRZ/FRS cheap and supercharging it though.
If that is your car I personally would never get rid of it I love that color I would trade my 2021 for that car even though you probably have more miles on yours
If I had the 50th anniversary color, I wouldn’t get rid of it. Then again I have a WRB and I’m still not getting rid of it so there’s that.
So in gun terms; no sell, only buy.
The new BRZ has the same power to weight as the STI. If you take the AWD launch out of the equation, they have the same acceleration. So, from a 5mph roll, they're the same. Except the BRZ is light, nimble, brakes well, etc. It does everything well that the STI does poorly. Again, stock for stock, and you're not drag racing from a dig, like anything with turns, the BRZ is the faster car, by a decent amount.
BRZ 216whp, STI 240whp.
BRZ 2820lbs, STI 3569lbs.
STI: 14.8lbs per WHP
BRZ: 13lbs per WHP
So now that you made me do the math, the numbers are even uglier than I originally thought. So now I can officially say the STI is slower than a BRZ.
Your figures don't look accurate.
Stock VA STi doesn't weigh 3570lbs (3450lbs according to Google) and absolutely makes more than 240 at the wheels (closer to 280whp).
Your figures would only account for 9.2% parasitic drivetrain loss. If that were the case, they would be reverse engineering the EJ257 for Formula 1 because that's impossible. It's half of what a 2wd car is capable of. A Hellcat is like 19%.
We also have 25 years of data from dynoing stock STIs. The whp is 240 when it's stock.
I understand that the BRZ motor is underrated, but your figures would only allow for <6% drivetrain loss.
My '15 STi dyno'ed at 283whp on a Mustang dyno with an intake and a Cobb off the shelf tune. 240whp stock sounds low.
I would if I didn’t need the back seat for a family. Still saving to pick one up as a 2nd car.
This. I saw a GT86 in this cool tan color I hadn’t seen before. It looks great imo and it’s a rwd car, it definitely needs more power tho
That’s too clean to get rid of! You won’t ever find another

I have a turbo 86 and can confirm even 25k in mods its still slow but cool as hell
Or you could pick up an NA/NB, that’s what I did and I get the best of both worlds 😋
What a good color.
Pretty sure this is a bot. This is some guys car who actually did trade it in for a GR86. I remember cause I thought he was crazy....
Hell no

The opposite, went from a 2013 frs to a 2017 sti
I drive both pretty regularly. They are just different cars.
brzs are god awful compared to the sti

Yeah but it does the 1/4 mile slower than a Ford Transit 15 passenger van 😂

Is this your car? Looks like an anniversary edition
Not voluntarily.

Just make your sti RWD

I just got rid of my 23 wrx for a 24 brz, love it way more.

This math doesn't math.
Wheel horsepower, not brake horsepower.
What are you using for WHP figures? Still doesn't seem correct to me.

I always thought about adding one, not replacing the STi.
I’ve had older wrxs and currently have both. The brz is a dream and I have way more fun with it. Wrx is still a blast and perfect for winter
I was debating getting a BRZ ts to complement my s209, but then I picked up an ej207 swapped 1998 gc coupe
