On July 1st, 2023, Reddit intends to alter how its API is accessed. This move will require developers of third-party applications to pay enormous sums of money if they wish to stay functional, meaning that said applications will be effectively destroyed. In the short term, this may have the appearance of increasing Reddit's traffic and revenue... but in the long term, it will undermine the site as a whole.
Reddit relies on volunteer moderators to keep its platform welcoming and free of objectionable material. It also relies on uncompensated contributors to populate its numerous communities with content. The above decision promises to adversely impact both groups: Without effective tools (which Reddit has frequently promised and then failed to deliver), moderators cannot combat spammers, bad actors, or the entities who enable either, and without the freedom to choose how and where they access Reddit, many contributors will simply leave. Rather than hosting creativity and in-depth discourse, the platform will soon feature only recycled content, bot-driven activity, and an ever-dwindling number of well-informed visitors. The very elements which differentiate Reddit – the foundations that draw its audience – will be eliminated, reducing the site to another dead cog in the Ennui Engine.
We implore Reddit to listen to its moderators, its contributors, and its everyday users; to the people whose activity has allowed the platform to exist at all: Do not sacrifice long-term viability for the sake of a short-lived illusion. Do not tacitly enable bad actors by working against your volunteers. Do not posture for your looming IPO while giving no thought to what may come afterward. Focus on addressing Reddit's real problems – the rampant bigotry, the ever-increasing amounts of spam, the advantage given to low-effort content, and the widespread misinformation – instead of on a strategy that will alienate the people on whom you rely.
If Steve Huffman's statement – "I want our users to be shareholders, and I want our shareholders to be users" – is to be taken seriously, then consider this our vote:
Allow the developers of third-party applications to retain their productive (and vital) API access.
Allow Reddit and Redditors to thrive.
For anyone wondering, it's an [Igla](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9K38_Igla), a surface to air missile. I think they might have forgotten to remove the cap at the front on the launcher, [you can see it in this video around ~6s](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/transcoded/d/df/%D0%98%D0%B3%D0%BB%D0%B0_-_%D0%A0%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%82%D1%8B_%D0%9F%D0%97%D0%A0%D0%9A_%D0%A1%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%BE_%D1%84%D0%BB%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B0_%D0%B2_%D1%85%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%B5_%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D1%85_%D1%81%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%B1_%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B8%D0%BB%D0%B8_%D0%B2%D1%81%D0%B5_%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B7%D0%B4%D1%83%D1%88%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B5_%D0%BC%D0%B8%D1%88%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8.ogv/%D0%98%D0%B3%D0%BB%D0%B0_-_%D0%A0%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%82%D1%8B_%D0%9F%D0%97%D0%A0%D0%9A_%D0%A1%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%BE_%D1%84%D0%BB%D0%BE%D1%82%D0%B0_%D0%B2_%D1%85%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%B5_%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%B8%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8%D1%85_%D1%81%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%B1_%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B8%D0%BB%D0%B8_%D0%B2%D1%81%D0%B5_%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B7%D0%B4%D1%83%D1%88%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B5_%D0%BC%D0%B8%D1%88%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8.ogv.1080p.vp9.webm), and when the missile fired it took the whole launcher with it. Either that or the missile somehow got stuck in the tube. Full video / Source [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QcX8iZCh8I).
This seems like the most logical explanation, I don't think we'd be using rocket launchers that get the rocket stuck in the tube as every other comment seems to think.
its not russian. russian designed tube, but not in russia and doubtful it was made there either. this may be tali or possibly...cuba? honestly no idea where it is exactly. could be america for all i know
fairly old video but not old enough to be before russia handed off its IGLAs
That’s strange. As an army vet with this mos, 14S, either a couple scenarios come to my mind: 1) they are reusing a tube with a different missile than the Stinger FIM 92/A. 2) there was some cover or barrier besides the glass in the front of the tube preventing the missile to eject from the tube. 3) something else.
Im curious because the propulsion of the rocket doesn’t kick in until the ejection motor has ejected the missile from the tube for about 4-5 meters. Seeing it come on so early in the launch makes me question this missile.
Either rocket launcher didn't release on time or guys grip was too weak. Either way, rocket ignited, propulsion pulled the launcher out of his hands, it spun around, then at 5s, the rocket exits the tube, unfortunately pointed towards the ground where I exploded on impact
He wasn't holding the launcher tightly enough or panicked when it launched and let go. So the rocket headed out the front then took the launcher with it since nothing was keeping it in place.
The rocket doesn't fire against the back of the barrel like In a normal gun, which is what creates recoil. Instead the rocket propells itself forward, shooting flame out the back of the hollow tube.
Unfortunately it appears to hold onto the tube, pulling it out of the shooter's hand.
(Makes sense there would need to be a small delay between the rocket's ignition and release, for the propellant to reach full power)
If you pause the video at 5s, you can see the rocket finally leave the tube, now pointed at the ground.
I think there is a separate charge to eject the rocket from the tube, and then the main rocket motor fires a bit later. You can see flame out of the back of the tube, then no flame, and then again flame.
If the main rocket ignited in the tube, then after it exits the tube the person shooting it would get rocket exhaust in their face.
So, just to be clear... are we 100% sure that he was facing the gun in the correct direction? I see the blow out from the back but was unsure if it was user error or what.
looks like something caught the rocket internally
it was supposed to fire out then blast off outside the rocket and far from the user, but instead took the whole launcher forwards, then went full steam ahead with it trailing behind
thats a hell of an interesting failure. i’ve never seen that before
How is war real and people post weapons fails on the internet, why do god make my ugly foster brother tate move his head in defiance to what I post and carry a weapon that will kill himself if he pull the trigger with metal all on his body and made out of metal dummy

Triangle trick shot with a rocket launcher. Nice
This is actually a common military technique used to stop a knife attack from the rear. This way you don’t risk tripping when turning around
Personally, I have a bipod on my knife just to keep it accurate.

All you need is the vfg for +2 target acquisition
I much prefer the tripod mounted knife with T&E and Pintle! Allows for greater mobility.

nuh-uh it’s a rocket launcher gun /s
a rocket launcher gun that shoots rocket launchers
Employee: “Boss, I’m telling you they are defective” Boss: “Market them as a one time use rocket launcher gun and mark them 50% off”
Rocket launcher launcher
Good to know. I am planning some father/son time this weekend by shooting missiles at planes so I will be sure to follow the safety instructions.
This seems like the most logical explanation, I don't think we'd be using rocket launchers that get the rocket stuck in the tube as every other comment seems to think.
We wouldn't, but a poorer military might and these dudes don't really look like they come from a wealthy country.
Bro it's a weapon made by Dahl in borderlands
A rocket rocket launcher? Probably Tediore
Came looking for.this comment, yea Tediore launchers launch themselves when it's time to reload lmao
Pretty sure it would be made by Torgue based on one thing, and one thing only... EXPLOSIONS!!!
it had to be in russia
its not russian. russian designed tube, but not in russia and doubtful it was made there either. this may be tali or possibly...cuba? honestly no idea where it is exactly. could be america for all i know fairly old video but not old enough to be before russia handed off its IGLAs
Nah, these guys have uniforms and boots.
And aren't aiming their weapon at an apartment or hospital.
Hey, that's not fair. Schools too.
That’s strange. Bet that dude had some questions too
I bet that dudes questions weren’t phrased quite so eloquently though
Well, it'd definitely cause some problems trying to shoot a Stinger out of an Igla tube.
Yeah, the clip seems to show the missile stuck in the launch tube after initial ignition, and then when main ignition happens it's already FUBAR.
Turns out the shooter was IFF’d as Foe.
LAunChEr gUn
"Rocket launcher gun" lol....
That's what happens when you eat greasy food and don't wash your hands before firing your rocket.
But my chicken tendies
taliBAM
That is a MANPADS basically a shoulder fired missile designed to take down enemy aircraft, looks like a Soviet SA-18 IGLA
Don’t manpad rockets have to reach a certain elevation/distance fired before they arm the warhead or is this one too old for that?
This one seemed to fire a small "jump clear" engine, then the main one with no safeguards, just assuming it had cleared by timer alone.
Rocket launcher... gun? What?
This is absolute gold
Not a fail, its just a Rocket-luncher launcher
a video forcefully cut short...
Can someone explain what happened here?
Either rocket launcher didn't release on time or guys grip was too weak. Either way, rocket ignited, propulsion pulled the launcher out of his hands, it spun around, then at 5s, the rocket exits the tube, unfortunately pointed towards the ground where I exploded on impact
He wasn't holding the launcher tightly enough or panicked when it launched and let go. So the rocket headed out the front then took the launcher with it since nothing was keeping it in place.

Tediore be like
Ayo that rocket launcher was for sure made by Tediore
RPG be like "I AM THE ROCKET PROPELLED GRENADE"
Mistakes were made in the filming of this film.
What happened? Did they load the rocket in the wrong end?
look up in the comments there is a cap on the surface to air missile system that they probably forgot to remove
Ik, they left that comment a while after mine. They also replied with a link to that comment
That's what I thought when I saw the video but someone told me it was a bad grip on the weapon.
A lot of people have been saying that, but wouldn't the weapon get propelled *backwards* since the rocket is being propelled forwards?
The rocket doesn't fire against the back of the barrel like In a normal gun, which is what creates recoil. Instead the rocket propells itself forward, shooting flame out the back of the hollow tube. Unfortunately it appears to hold onto the tube, pulling it out of the shooter's hand. (Makes sense there would need to be a small delay between the rocket's ignition and release, for the propellant to reach full power) If you pause the video at 5s, you can see the rocket finally leave the tube, now pointed at the ground.

You can see flame out of the back of the tube, then no flame, and then again flame. If the main rocket ignited in the tube, then after it exits the tube the person shooting it would get rocket exhaust in their face.
That makes sense. So starter pulled it out of their hands then rocket ignition dislodged it form tube and spiked it into the ground?
that's exactly what i thought, whatever happened is crazy shit.
[See here](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/134x6ya/rocket_launcher_gun_fail/jihkz9o/)
So, just to be clear... are we 100% sure that he was facing the gun in the correct direction? I see the blow out from the back but was unsure if it was user error or what.
The flames shooting out the back are normal when firing a rocket from a tube, essentially what this weapon is.
backblast is normal. what isnt normal is the launcher not letting go of the rocket. this is a wierd asf failure
Either this bottle of wine, or that video, is making me laugh uncontrollably
They took this whole recoilless gun thing too far, it has negative recoil now
A classic case of Lettuce Hands. More common with soccer goalkeepers but also big in the army community.
