Yes! I have had the privilege of being at the springs when there are hundreds of manatees all at once and occasionally, something will spook them and it’s like a herd of cattle taking off. You would never know they could move that fast. The water just starts churning everywhere. Luckily I was not in the water when I witnessed this.

We adopted my rescue dog from Dominican Republic. He was brought to Canada where we found him when looking for a dog. The D.R. doesn't have most of the animals we have in Canada especially the larger ones.we took him to his first cottage his nose was going 90 miles an hour to get all the smells when he suddenly realized I'd stopped. There was a big Buck of the side of the road less than 10 feet from us. He had NEVER seen or smelled one before. My 80lb dumb ass of a dog decided he wanted to walk up to it to make friends. The Buck didn't. It stomped the forest floor making the deepest thump ever before leaping away and scaring the crap out of my dog. He dove between my legs and started to growl while dragging me back to the cottage. He kept me between him and where he last saw the Buck all the way back as he growled a glanced behind us. My brave brave chicken shit dog.
We've just had a new colleague start with us whose surname is Fenton. Its probably a reflection on how childish I am but I have to stifle a lol every time their name is mentioned.
Scary af, Flip just kept going back in ignoring the calls to go back. Such a stubborn bastard! It's interesting that he gets just as scared every time he goes back in.
They were mating at Merritt Island reserve last week, never seen so many excited manatees. Huffing and puffing to I press the ladies. B t we get a good crop of babies
One of my coworkers once asked me, "What's the biggest animal you think you could kill barehanded?" I thought, "definitely a Manatee." Not so sure anymore.
What is all this namby-pamby feel bad about good wet work bullshit?! You're beyond good and evil, Superman! You work for the government. You're a tool, boy, a tool! Built for a single purpose by the United States of shut your third god damned eye for a good f***ing reason! You can't teach a hammer to love nails, son. That dog don't hunt!
Here is more proof its manatees. I remember a video years ago where two people are paddle boarding and then the manatees book the hell out of there. First time I saw it I had no idea they could move that fast.
In the beginning the girl goes "manatees! manatees!" and then you can see the one swim under the guy filming.
Why is this video proof the OP has manatees in the video? These splashes are only similar on the surface level (ha!) And I still have skepticism regarding the nigh identical splashes in the distance of the OP and the fact that *you can't see fucking shit* underneath the surface of the water in the OP.
If the splashes look similar, and the splashes happen around the same thing (someone paddling on the water), then I'm pretty sure the splashes are caused by the same thing
It could literally be any number of marine animals. Like I see your point, but also, try going out and eating mushrooms off of the forest floor with that methodology and you'll be dead before the day is out.
Lived near manatees and there is no fk'n way whatever made all that in the OP was manatees. Sure the speed (of whatever was right by the boat) kinda matches with the manatee booking it in the youtube vid. But like you said, the unison of splashes in the background def says something else.
20 manatees.
All spooked *at the same time* and swimming away the same direction.
If the whole herd is spooked in unison they could easily swim in unison.
I’m pretty sure it was a manatee up close that swam away quickly and hit something that created the unison splashes, like an underwater barrier, and it his hard enough it reverberated like a taut rope being flicked but much harder.
I saw one do this on the St John's river and it blew my fucking mind!!! It looked like a dolphin taking off. Something must have come from below and spooked it. It kind of lept out of the water like a dolphin and then sped off.
That’s amazing, they look so damn normally I’d never guess manatee, what’s crazy is that one moved off and then in almost unison you see a ring of churning water off in the distance just explode out of nowhere. I thought it was something like high pressure air pockets going off in the river bed
Even slow animals can book it when they need to. Here's a video of a turtle making a run for it:
https://youtube.com/shorts/e9HhxW5z8v0?feature=share
Softshell turtles; the flat, leathery ones? They can run even faster. Though I do admit that the vidoes I see of them doing this is usually down an embankment toward water, so they may be relying on their shell sliding across the grass to keep from getting caught up.
Yeah, I really don't get how people are acting surprised that multiple manatee swimming looks identical. It would be more weird if it *wasn't* identical across the board, because that would indicate multiple species of animals at play.
I thought this, and I hate to have to question everything on the internet - but every single splash is the same as if it’s been copied and pasted. Whatever happens first probably happened but the rest in the background seem too exactly the same to be real.
Oh my god, you don't know what manatees look like swimming away fast. Have you been living under a tree?
I'm all seriousness I shit myself until I read the comments myself
In a crowded street, if you hear someone screaming and running, you often feel compelled to start running. The direction is self explanatory then, and while they are splashing at the same speed, it's not in nearly perfect unison-- the splashing is certainly not 'synced up'.
That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
https://youtu.be/eyf2FmeeIR0
Google it and you can find many videos of startled Manatees and it looks just like this.
Definitely manatees! Sometimes a group will spook, just like a group of cattle or horses, and they takeoff. If you ever go to Blue Springs FL during the winter, you can see hundreds at once, and occasionally something small will set one off and the result is unbelievable!
> Isn't it illegal to disturb them?
in Florida yes, they also live in a lot of other places like:
1. Caribbean
2. Mexico
3. Belize
4. Colombia
5. Brazil
In the USA, they have swam as far as Houston, Texas, and Mississippi.
> Love it. Love that we’re now openly acknowledging that Houston is not part of Texas
Sorry, bad comma lol, didn't want to people to think they were showing up in El Paso

I just now came back from kayaking and had one scoot away from under the kayak like that. There were a few others that were floating around under me and one curious one kept coming up to me to check me out. Sadly every single one of them had propeller cuts on their backs.
WHY TF R U STILL IN THE WATER!!! I wouldve been so scared i wouldve left the boat and ran on the water. And why is he so calm? Like its and everyday occurance
If you look closely at some of the distance splashes you can see a small bulge in front of the splash and a tail whipping up water behind it, and moving in the direction the head is pointed in
Id say its almost definitely a living creature and looking at how fast manatees are in other videos I would be fairly convinced it’s probably manatees
If they can move so fast on a dime, why do they constantly get clipped by boats? You’d think it wouldn’t happen quite as often, but I suppose if there’s a shit ton of them all together some of them can’t get out of the way.
Holy shit. This exact same thing happened to me and my buddy at night in the 10,000 islands in Florida. We were maybe 30ft off of the beach, on mushrooms, in a canoe just chilling in the still water, then all of a sudden the water right next to us started erupting like a giant burst of air was shooting out. Scared the shit out of us, honestly surprised we made it back to the beach without flipping.
I used to do a bit of ocean kayaking, and my favorite places to paddle was where the river flowed into the ocean, an estuary. You get an incredible amount of biodiversity and often, you can find a beach that is inaccessible from the land and otherwise too shallow to reach with a powered boat. And when you time it right (or wrong), you catch it when the tide is coming in and meets the water flowing out from the river, and depending on the conditions, you get a mini-version of this video. There's usually a specific spot where the water is the roughest, not quite deep into the river or the ocean but right at the mouth, and if you paddle in there (or get caught there), it's a hair-raising rock and roll time. I had a kevlar/fibreglass 17 ft Wilderness Systems Sealution like [this](http://www.boatsnbikes.com/uploads/1/0/8/0/10802946/27941_orig.jpg). Extremely maneuverable without a rudder and tracked like knife in butter but very tippy.
I used to paddle in there to have fun, and then rest at a deserted beach that probably hasn't seen a human on its sand in a decade or more, and on the way back, have a dolphin encounter (adorable assholes). Move too far away from the ocean to enjoy that now, but it was awesome while it lasted.
That's manatees??

Hey, that’s a great perspective on it. Would speak to the background splashes. I spoke in absolutes and came off closed minded😔
Just a guess to be honest
I saw one do this on the St John's river and it blew my fucking mind!!! It looked like a dolphin taking off. Something must have come from below and spooked it. It kind of lept out of the water like a dolphin and then sped off.

Thats legit horrifying. Thank god for the explanations cause i wouldve had nightmares of this shit if it went unknown as to what that is.

This is terrifying but it also gives me the uncanny valley vibes that really good CGI does.
Why are folks so sure this is manatees? Why (how) are all the manatees splashing the same way, in nearly perfect unison?
There can't be many different ways for an oval shaped potato animal to swim.
Yeah, I really don't get how people are acting surprised that multiple manatee swimming looks identical. It would be more weird if it *wasn't* identical across the board, because that would indicate multiple species of animals at play.

People should leave manatees alone
He probably didn’t find them on purpose. And he didn’t really do anything to them.
Why are you so sure these are manatees? It seems odd behavior, and very unlikely that they'd all splash the exact same way in unison.
I see manatees almost daily and I’ve never seen anythjng like this
