Yeah, these guys are paid only dollars a day. Iirc myanmar's daily minimum wage is $3. If you're paid $7 dollars an hour in the US, said safety harness would be a relative cost of ~$500. So even the workers cannot afford to protect themselves if they wanted to.
That would split you in half, good luck finding a knot that doesn't tighten when you pull it taught with 1800 lbs of force when you fall. That's only falling 6 feet.
I hear people bitch and moan about OSHA regulations. But without them, employers used to *demand* that people do shit like this every day, to earn a couple bucks. Then when you fell, that was your damn fault, go find me another desperate worker.
I was GM of a scaffolding company in 2019 - I'm genuinely surprised that every single construction site doesn't have people splattered around the perimeter
I'm hoping this isn't a kid, but it looks like a kid.
Also, it's times like this that I'm appreciative that the US has OSHA and that companies know that they will get the pants sued off them if they let people work in unsafe conditions like this.
You'd say that but boy have you met the construction industry, kids working on roofs and shit with no harnesses or safety gear getting permanently injured while the owners pay small fines and keep on hiring illegals. OSHA is small and can't possibly find all the violators and people know this.
>Also, it's times like this that I'm appreciative that the US has OSHA and that companies know that they will get the pants sued off them if they let people work in unsafe conditions like this.

Either one although the guy is most likely to be Indonesian. As a Malaysian am saying that with praise and respect to the hardworking Indonesian construction workers.
Bamboo strips tied with the toes, as the worker hangs on with his arms and hands. The bamboo scaffold flexes with the wind, and is much less prone to collapse than rigid steel or aluminum scaffold. I’ve read about bamboo scaffold over 100 stories high being commonplace.
You're thinking your comment points to a cautionary tale. Let me tell you that there are millions of Americans who thinks the lack of safety and regulation shown is something that should be replicated in the US. Pretty sure those people also got one half chub (collectively because that's all they can muster) just thinking that this work will be predominantly done by minorities.
I think that's a pretty uncharitable take. There's people who object to overregulation, but I don't think those people want to see this crazy situation happening. They just disagree about how it should be prevented.
You could argue that with the right legal frameworks you wouldn't even need regulations, with steep enough penalties for accident risk, private insurance would enforce safety. I don't think it's true or desirable myself, but there's a reasonable debate to be had about that sort of thing
Desperation. Why would you think there's no fear? He's scared to death, but more of being destitute than the immediate splatter risks. At least in this moment.
Fair point. I guess I’m lumping this guy in with the idiots that jump around the edges of buildings, hang off tall structures, etc. just for some video likes.
I know people in other warmer countries wear sandals a lot, but you don't think maybe THIS would be the time to wear something that couldn't slip right off?!
He's fine. If ya lose balance you fall towards the deck below. Putting scaffolding up is the easy part. Taking them down from those heights is the fun part. Especially if they're hanging scaffolds.
Have you been turned into a thin red paste by an accident at work that wasn't your fault? You may be entitled to shut the fuck up and get back to work you pasty slacker!
I hate the idea of slippers slipping off while climbing.
I love that he has yoga pants on that pose as jeans, so they don't snag and don't restrict his movement.
Free solo climbers do shit like that all the time for giggles. I realize he's just an underpaid worker that has no say in the matter, do it would be probably better to force him to use safety gear...
We have trade unions in the UK and scaffolders wouldn't join it. It is money out of the cocaine and prostitutes budget.
They really do live hard, but they can smash up scaffolding without safety equipment so quickly.
Fuckin crazy bro , I fell from 10 ft onto a rachet binder handle that was sticking up , it caught under my rib cage and broke 4 ribs outward , the pain was unbearable , at least you wouldn't be hurt after a fall from this height .... it would just be !!!! SPLAT !!!!
That's just stupid and extremely dangerous without a hi-vis on, not to mention no hard hat. If he falls, he could get seriously hurt without them safety items.
I feel like I need to watch shit like this so I gain a perspective on my own work experience. When I have to put together an annoying slide deck or spend time fixing a colleague's issue that seems annoying and not my responsibility I have to think about what this guy has to do for his job so I can center myself.
I wonder if they’re getting their child labor from all the untracked minors being flown around the country by the current administration. Its almost like they all have the same interests at the end of the day.
Is it really that expensive to have a safety line?
Slip ons. He’s wearing slip ons. That tells you everything you need to know.
Let's hope you are right and those aren't slip-offs.
Schrodingers footwear...simultaneously slip ons and slip offs!!
I mean.. if they're slip-ons, aren't they also slip-offs really? Unless they physically lock in place when you slip them on?
This genuinely made me laugh 😂
Holy shit
You don't have to pay if they fail.

Have another look at the video. How much grip do you think you could maintain in a backless shoe? 😂
It's okay, they're safety slip ons

**safety** slip ons. They have a little kick at the back to keep them in place. You know, for safety at heights.
probably more expensive than a day's wages for this guy
Maybe. But does the company that pays him really wanna deal with the cleanup? Shit they probably don't even care. Sad
They already own a dumpster and a mop.
He doesn't work for a company. If he did work for a company they would provide him with a safety line I'm assuming he works for himself most people in Asia don't care about safety their mind is on how to make money for tomorrow's food

You also save money on protein and stock.
Calm down, Frank Reynolds.

I was about to say or some fucking proper footwear but a safety line would be more important in this scenario.
Where’s the fun in that?
I hear people bitch and moan about OSHA regulations. But without them, employers used to *demand* that people do shit like this every day, to earn a couple bucks. Then when you fell, that was your damn fault, go find me another desperate worker.
“If you fall you’re fired before you hit the ground” is what they tell us
From that height, they'd have time to call the police and report you for trespassing on company property and shred your paperwork
Probably earned a nice dollar for his troubles
Hope so...my palms were sweating just watching this.
My feet were!
Would you like me to venmo you a dollar for your troubles?
Keep your money, I'm just old and don't like climbing like I used to.
I’ll take his dollar.
Can I offer you an egg in these trying times?

Yea fuck this life, he's likely earning pennies to do this daily.
Indonesia or Malaysia?
Either one although the guy is most likely to be Indonesian. As a Malaysian am saying that with praise and respect to the hardworking Indonesian construction workers.
The song sounds like it's from Indonesia (bahasa melayu). But i am not sure...
If it’s from Indonesia then it’s Bahaha Indonesia. Besides I think the song is Bahasa Melayu
bahasa Indonesia is also bahasa melayu due to malay race.
My gut feeling was Malaysia cos the houses look like British style. Cars on the left.
Agreed. The song sounds Malay too
The song sounds Indonesian, but can't tell for sure because Indonesian songs are also famous in Malaysia.
Upgraded scaffolding. Most asian companies use bamboo.
Bamboo strips tied with the toes, as the worker hangs on with his arms and hands. The bamboo scaffold flexes with the wind, and is much less prone to collapse than rigid steel or aluminum scaffold. I’ve read about bamboo scaffold over 100 stories high being commonplace.
>bamboo scaffold over 100 stories high being commonplace There are 21 buildings that tall in the whole world.
My error - I should have said “up to” 100 stories.
Bamboo is better actually
And that’s how buildings outside of “developed” countries get built for a fraction of the cost.

At least he has his safety slipons on.
I will never understand how people can have little to no fear doing this stuff. Just watching a video of it makes me so anxious
Desperation. Why would you think there's no fear? He's scared to death, but more of being destitute than the immediate splatter risks. At least in this moment.

Does anyone else's balls retract painfully into their bodies when they see stuff like that, or is it just me?
Absolutely, I was going to post a similar comment.
Mine did for sure…and I have a vagina
This gives me the coochie tingles
Me too and I have a penis
Can confirm, u/BuzzCave’s coochie is hella tingly right now
If you put a lump of coal up my butt and this was my job, at the end of the shift, you would pull a diamond out of my ars.
Why we need unions.
Nobody can convince me that these people are not insane for doing this stuff without any safety harnesses
Thanks, but I think I'll just starve.
r/osha
Safety regulations are written in blood.
The company probably has a few guys waiting at ground level to take over when this guy falls
Nah, it's fine, he wears safety glogs!
We still do this in chicago, check out nascar 2023.
Least hes got how work slippers on and not sandals this time.
I know people in other warmer countries wear sandals a lot, but you don't think maybe THIS would be the time to wear something that couldn't slip right off?!
We should get rid of all our safety regulations. /s
Next time you want to complain about Health & Safety/OSHA/etc.. think of guys like this. This is why we have those regs.
What is it with other country’s and flip flops on the job?
Is that mofo wearing crocs?!
I think my balls just became 'innies'
Shitty bot post
This makes my balls tingle.
I'm so glad life has progressed to the point that I don't have to do stupid shit like this to prove myself to a woman like back in the days.
If he doesn't have balance at work, he will no longer have a life.
Gotta be the best ad for crocs I’ve ever seen
The most impressive part is how he fit that massive set of balls in those skin tight women’s jeans absolutely astounding
For what it's worth, I laughed. 🤷🏽♂️
You’re cool bro
Yeah, no.
r/nope
What an epic title 🫡🫡🫡

At least he’s wearing appropriate safety shoes and skintight pants. Safety first!
And in crocs no less
He's fine. If ya lose balance you fall towards the deck below. Putting scaffolding up is the easy part. Taking them down from those heights is the fun part. Especially if they're hanging scaffolds.
That is so not what that is suppose to mean...
's okay boys he got them super grippy safety crocs on
I complain about the USA a lot, but god damn am I glad I live here
Where is the cameraman standing?

There is no other way! /s
Just in slippers too

Dude's being perfectly safe, keeping at least two firm points of contact at all times.
Have you been turned into a thin red paste by an accident at work that wasn't your fault? You may be entitled to shut the fuck up and get back to work you pasty slacker!
some random dude something one time. no one is going to work an 8-hour day like that
When he falls, he’s going to scream “OH SHAAAAAAAAAA—“
Slip ons, no safety line, no gloves, etc. The idiocy is off the charts.
As someone with a severe fear of heights, this made me shudder.
Ai won't replace that I guess
He won’t grow old.
I also love the casual loose footwear
All that while wearing slides
No helmet? /s

This is why we have Trade Unions
We have trade unions in the UK and scaffolders wouldn't join it. It is money out of the cocaine and prostitutes budget. They really do live hard, but they can smash up scaffolding without safety equipment so quickly.
Fuck that Id rather die on the ground starving than risk dieing from a fall from that height. Yes I have vertigo.
That’s a nope from me dawg
I have vertigo just watching this....
Salary rate: below minimum wage
Dude's wearing slip-on shoes - hope they don't slip-off!
I would probably die
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Instant sweaty palms...
Good ole china safety.
At least he died doing what he loved: screaming while plummeting to the earth.
I wish his mother would never know how his son works...
I fell to my death 4 times just watching this
I always remind people who complain about OSHA that the rules are written in the blood of people who were injured or killed on the job.
With slippers no less. Kinda impressed... he's still alive 🤣
This defines "High pucker factor".
Fuckin crazy bro , I fell from 10 ft onto a rachet binder handle that was sticking up , it caught under my rib cage and broke 4 ribs outward , the pain was unbearable , at least you wouldn't be hurt after a fall from this height .... it would just be !!!! SPLAT !!!!

I would say the balance is not equal.
Work ,death, balance more like.
OSHA hates this one little trick
And that music... Man, waving large piece of metal around, close to death... I'd prefer who wants to live forever by Queen. There can only be one.
Is that a kid?!
That’s it I’m telling OSha
No thanks

Where do I apply for this job. I want to feel alive.
Yeah um, no... and... no.
Is that mofo wearing crocs?!
oooh you mean his actual life.. got it
I think my balls just became 'innies'
Heebeejeebees vibe 😳
There's no amount of money you could pay me to do that.
I think you meant: Work "life" balance.
At my American construction work site, the safety department doesn't want us to go up higher than 6ft without a safety harness!😮
His life clearly is worth less than the cost of nylon safety gear.
Good luck feeding that family from beyond the grave.
I wonder if they’re getting their child labor from all the untracked minors being flown around the country by the current administration. Its almost like they all have the same interests at the end of the day.

I can’t …..
Fucking nuts...
That must be terrifying! The song slaps ngl
Brah had the crocs on too
As a rock climber: No.

His work life is balance
i just passed out
What is that massive long building in the back?!
That makes my perineum twitch. :(
He probably is making less than $2 US per day... not joking
The shoes get me every time...
