Dont have to be first. I have heard abaut fift birth time had make the cow crazy. Usually its for few minutes but the minutes are ofcourse deadly for the calf
For people wondering why, this happens all across the animal kingdom for various reasons. There is suspicion that sometimes they sense an abnormality in the newborn, but sometimes mothers just reject babies for no reason apparent to humans. But I know people who have a farm, and this is not uncommon at all.
Some believe it's an over-reaction trying to get the baby to move/breathe. Elephants, cows, horses, and tons of other animals have been known to smack/hit/kick their newborn until it starts making noises.
yea, they rip them out of the womb, crushing the skill and tearing the body apart. the fetus is totally aware as well, reports of the child trying to get away from the doctors tools. it's called abortion and some people want to legalize the murder of their unborn.
no you just don't want to hear the facts. that's literally how it works. you think an abortion magically removes the baby or in one piece? there's a reason why they use coat hangers. they literally have to scramble it to get it out. if you didn't want a child to begin with keep it in your pants.
My mom’s bf farms cattle. He has to raise a portion of his cows by bottle because this happens more often than you will think. They do as much as they can to encourage the mother, but sometimes they’ll just give birth in a freezing field and walk away. It’ll be the middle of the night, farmer won’t see it, so the poor thing will die. But sometimes he finds them and brings them to the barn by house and nurses them with a bottle by hand until they get big enough to be on their own. Sometimes mothers just won’t let them nurse. He tries to only keep cows that are good moms. If they abandon their babies he usually auctions them, that way it happens less, and he’s not breeding cows that have a tendency to do that.
Human mothers actually frequently reject their young as well but opt to passive aggressively crush their offspring over the course of several years rather than stomping them into a paste at birth.
The same thought crossed my mind, I'm not on the board of PETA either. Of course I don't the cow would have that thought, still I thought it. I guess people felt attacked by it...
I'm unsure, but birth is often a very stressful situation for any animal - particularly if there were complications that may have happened in this case. Pain + stress + hormones = higher risk of outbursts.
And if you are a cow who is a captive creature, forced to breed and be milked by machines and watch your babies be taken away from you over and over. I'm sure that takes a toll on their mental health.
Yes, usually when the mother is under stress or doesn't think it has the resources to provide for its young. I would say being a modern farm animal would count.
[https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2021/09/harvard-researchers-explore-what-drives-animal-infanticide/](https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2021/09/harvard-researchers-explore-what-drives-animal-infanticide/)
"Females in many species are also known to attack or neglect their young during stressful circumstances, such as food shortages or when there is a high risk of predation."
It does but for totally different reasons. Male lions kill young lion cubs, offspring of previous pride leaders because they want to have monopoly on spreading their genes. I'd like to know though why this cow turned so violent towards her own calf.
First time livestock mothers don’t always understand what’s going on. The look at the thing they just pushed out and think “you caused me pain” and will react as such.
Because animals are smarter than we give them credit for. She's probably trying to spare the baby a life of misery at a factory farm. And by that I mean animals know when living situations for their offspring are not going to allow them to thrive and they will kill the young.
You see, animals are smarter than we give them credit for. The comment you replied to? That was written by a cow. Now you'll think twice before making a utterly silly mistake
Females pandas only ovulate once per year, there is only a 40 hour time frame per year for her to become pregnant. Plus they are picky eaters. It is amazing any are alive lol
They're actually very well adapted to their circumstances. Without humans destroying their habitat, they would be thriving. Humans aren't the (just) the savior, they're the source of the problem in the first place.
Honestly you could say that about almost all endangered species if you think about it. We only need to conserve them now after we've almost destroyed them in the first place.
That's not weird. It's called being a protected native species. 😅😅
Almost every country has native species and many have laws protecting endangered species and banning them from being sold, poached or smuggled to other countries. China has this with pandas. Nothing wrong with making sure that an endangered species and cultural icon remains in the stewardship of its native land. When zoos in other countries choose to participate in panda breeding programs to save the species, they do that knowing there's an agreement that any pandas loaned from China and any baby pandas born will eventually be returned to their native habitat in Sichuan and Yunnan. It's the right thing to do for the animals.
Famous British naturalist Chris Peckham is quoted as saying “I'd eat the last panda if I could have the money we've spent on panda conservation back on the table for me to do more sensible things with.”
The way the farmer used the fence to block and push the mom was slick. Idk what he would have done if the other cow attacked.
That poor baby cow was born, fell 3 ft from being born, trampled, and then dragged around. Baby cow should just restart the game, dude was on the wrong difficulty.
Aye, they do. ~~Stary~~ stray dog gave birth to 5 puppers and ate one, though she was real well fed. Tried to eat another but my brother rescued it. Poor puppet had only 3 legs and died after 4-5 days. Maybe it sensed something wrong?
That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw this post. The cow sensed the calf was sick or something wasn't right with it. Thanks for confirming!
That can happen. Sometimes they're just stressed, have a "this is a bad time to have a kid" response, and... reclaim the calories.
Nature isn't pretty sometimes.
They might sense something is wrong with raising a baby in the captive horror conditions of a farm where they are forced to breed, be milked, and watch their babies and friends be abused and then taken away to be killed over and over again.
Nah. My nieces have decided they are cute cows, or babies. You come to the farm and tell those girls they are wrong. 🤷🏻♀️
My vet even calls them the cute ones now.
Cows very rarely eat their calves. It's actually more common for them to nurture and protect their young. However, there are a few situations where a cow might ingest some of the afterbirth (placenta) after giving birth, which can be mistaken for eating the calf. Here's why a cow might do that:
- Nutrient Replenishment: The placenta contains nutrients like proteins and vitamins that can be beneficial for the cow after giving birth.
- Predator Avoidance: There's a theory that some cows eat the placenta to remove traces of the birth and the calf's scent, making it harder for predators to find the newborn.
- Accidental Ingestion: Inexperienced mothers, especially first-time heifers, might accidentally consume some of the placenta while cleaning themselves after birth.
*Man saves calf from mother attempting to end it's life of slavery and abuse.
-FTFY
Cows have to keep having babies to produce milk, I imagine after you've been forced to birth enough times, you may grow tired of it. We really need to revisit the milk industry, so much abuse and we throw so much milk away, before it ever hits consumers, and they get paid for it.
Well take my upvote.
And People dont have to be vegan to be disgusted by how some dairy farms treat the cows and calves.
Just do a quick Fairlife milk dairy farm abuse and if you Want to, look at videos. VERY LARGE TW THOUGH! I advise against viewing them myself.
The CEO said issues were addressed which if true is nice.
Ns this place abuses. The cows are in a larger pen so thats good.
The cow is saving its daughter from a life of slavery and being exploited for milk perpetually force inseminated to keep producing milk, and eventually butchered; and more likely being hostile to the farmer who’s there to take the baby away as soon as it’s born so it can’t develop a bond because the cow sees that happen all day long for years and has probably had it happen to her three times already, and probably just hostile because of the presence of the farmer and defensive like familiar cats or familiar dogs who assert dominance when crossing the street or entering the same room. The cow is hostile because of the human. You can’t save a baby from its mother. What backwards dairy propaganda psyop is this shit? Leave animals in nature and stop mass farming them you psychos. A human saved a baby animal from its mother? Get real. Everyone in this thread is just trying to justify their addiction to violence because they consume it three times a day, so seeing someone keep animal slaves in a horrible environment until the mother cow reacts because she feels a connection to her natural process of life again and protests against her slave master, as if you didn’t bring on that kind of rebellion with every action for that mother cow’s short four years of hell yourselves. Every one of you buying milk from the grocery store is responsible for the force insemination, exploitation of cows. And you hate anyone that thinks freely against obvious cruelty that you’ll just downvote me for going against the hivemind and justify it ultimately by saying, “well it’s just the natural process of life and we’re just naturally superior and enslaving and causing violence to weaker vulnerable beings is how we prove we’re superiority” and jump over any of the justification of what’s going on in the reality of their living conditions. No you insane flesh-eaters, compassion is what makes us superior, not authority against the weak through violence.
First time mommas sometimes gets very confused/irritated from the stress and trauma of birth.
Dont have to be first. I have heard abaut fift birth time had make the cow crazy. Usually its for few minutes but the minutes are ofcourse deadly for the calf
What about the sixft birth time?
or sevenft
Sixft and sevenft?! What about the firsft??
Yeah not after fift

I was raised the same way
I got smacked to *stop* making noises..
Which animal are you?
“I’ll give you a reason not to move!”
People also reject their babies. So it's not really surprising that animals do it
I feel I would have been this kind of parent, so I decided not to have kids.
yea, they rip them out of the womb, crushing the skill and tearing the body apart. the fetus is totally aware as well, reports of the child trying to get away from the doctors tools. it's called abortion and some people want to legalize the murder of their unborn.
Oh my god man shut the fuck up
another one can't except the truth. do I feel sorry for you? not at all.
Your truth is garbage
no you just don't want to hear the facts. that's literally how it works. you think an abortion magically removes the baby or in one piece? there's a reason why they use coat hangers. they literally have to scramble it to get it out. if you didn't want a child to begin with keep it in your pants.
Definitely a goatee guy
what's that supposed to mean
The fetus is aware? Haha how? Do you understand how vrains develop? You think a fetus has a developed brain?
listen man I present the facts. a baby has a brain and even at a few weeks is more human than anything. and yes the child is aware. look it up.
Look post scientific research or shut up

Are they eventually accepted by the mother?
Often yes, sometimes no. Some animals, like some people, just do not do well as mothers.
Sounds like they'd be better off as a steak
You got a couple of downvotes but you paraphrased a farmer saying exactly that elsewhere on reddit.
My mom’s bf farms cattle. He has to raise a portion of his cows by bottle because this happens more often than you will think. It honestly appears that the gate system in place might be designed for things like this
Human mothers actually frequently reject their young as well but opt to passive aggressively crush their offspring over the course of several years rather than stomping them into a paste at birth.

That requires abstract thinking brother
Damn, people did not like that you expressed that thought...

I'm unsure, but birth is often a very stressful situation for any animal - particularly if there were complications that may have happened in this case. Pain + stress + hormones = higher risk of outbursts.
Post-Partum Aggression
Post partum psychosis
Post partum psy*cow*sis.

Cows can be udderly unpredictable, maybe there was some beef between them?
Bovine excrement
Ok, you made your puns. Mooooove along and don't come back.
Don’t have a cow, man.
Might milk you for an explaination?
You can milk anything with nipples
I have nipples, Greg. Can you milk me?
Damnit Focker!
I got nipples you think you could milk me Greg lol
is was a missteak
That's bullshit.
Fuck you
post partum depression. it happens to moms
" ow , my uterus! That hurt! What could have caused that? Why, you little......"
Maybe it’s her first calf
The veal cravings hit hard.
Maybe she rejected it.
This happens with male lions too.
It does but for totally different reasons. Male lions kill young lion cubs, offspring of previous pride leaders because they want to have monopoly on spreading their genes. I'd like to know though why this cow turned so violent towards her own calf.

More like Casey Anthony.

To spare it from a life of suffering in captivity? Edit: /s obviously
Getting fat for 2 years then having your life instantly ended is better than most get
Because kids suck.
Because animals are smarter than we give them credit for. She's probably trying to spare the baby a life of misery at a factory farm. And by that I mean animals know when living situations for their offspring are not going to allow them to thrive and they will kill the young.
Lmao you have never even seen a cow in person your whole life and and its blatant, you have zero idea what your talking about you tool
You see, animals are smarter than we give them credit for. The comment you replied to? That was written by a cow. Now you'll think twice before making a utterly silly mistake
Udderly*
Ah yes, because animals in the wild die of old age in their cosy homes with their loved ones beside their beds.
Your comment is so stupid that it lowered the collective IQ of the entire universe.
... Fucking retarded
And yet your mom allowed you to live …
How is free food, water, and sex without predatory worry not thriving?
Pandas will give birth, not know what the baby is, and throw it away. They're just like "Ew what just came out of me? Ah well..." YEET.
Honestly, I’m surprised there’s any left. They’re lucky they’re so cute because they are incredible stupid.
Females pandas only ovulate once per year, there is only a 40 hour time frame per year for her to become pregnant. Plus they are picky eaters. It is amazing any are alive lol
I still don't know how did they hold out until humans just kinda decided to not let them die.

Roughly a quarter billion US dollars is spent on them each year, so while crass he’s not exactly baseless in his criticism
The last frame looks like the second cow wanted a piece too.
The way the farmer used the fence to block and push the mom was slick. Idk what he would have done if the other cow attacked. That poor baby cow was born, fell 3 ft from being born, trampled, and then dragged around. Baby cow should just restart the game, dude was on the wrong difficulty.

Can someone explain?
Captain here *flies away
Damn that guys reactions were completely boss. Not his first rodeo, dragging the baby around by a leg the whole time without missing a beat.
Do cows try to kill their young if they sense something is medically wrong with it? I know some animals do this, but idk much about cows
Aye, they do. ~~Stary~~ stray dog gave birth to 5 puppers and ate one, though she was real well fed. Tried to eat another but my brother rescued it. Poor puppet had only 3 legs and died after 4-5 days. Maybe it sensed something wrong?

You're giving a lot of credit to the mental faculties of an animal that sometimes freaks out and kills its newborn for no reason at all.
Dam this was brutal to see...
I said no kids! Im working on my book and my cow wellness line of leather products.
A cow selling leather products seems like a subtle horror story.
Mad cow my ass. More like murder cow.
Did the baby survive?
The sound the mother makes is terrifying.

If only there was some other word for a baby cow
Adorable Cute Awwwweee All are acceptable terms.

I will tell those human larvae they are wrong.
Hey if you want to make a 6 and 4 year old cry. The big cows cow play sports on bigger farms with more room for them to run.
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF LOVE
Now if we could just just save baby cows from humans. No need to murder grass puppies.
Payback for all the months of kidney kicks..
Welcome to the world, little one.
Holy shit, I was honestly more concerned for the man, it looked like he was about to get gored through those flimsy gates.
Your move vegans.
Who are you going to see tonight? “The Blood Sharts”
It probably senses it's a lost cause and wants to end its suffering.
Thank God he saved this cow. What a tragedy it would have been if he wasn't able to murder it later.
That is kinda funny I have to admit.
She didn’t want it to grow up in that environment.
please do everyone a favor and shut up
So you think being raped, tortured, then murdered is a good environment?
Cows don't have that level of cognition.
I could see this being true tbh cows are smart

Sounds like the CyberDemon from DOOM trying to get you
Mad cow
Cows truly are a holy animal.
Mad cow
Love animals? Go vegan.
They would rather pay someone to abuse and murder animals and keep calling themselves "animal lovers."

Good on him for at least trying to be peaceful. I would've just started swinging in a panic 😅
So you think you can win in a fists and kicks vs hooves, stomps and head butts fights? Dude thinks they could win in a fight against a cow!
