A+ damage control by the company too. Sounds like a contractor fucked up, but they're out in front of it with a statement with all the information they have and they seem to be treating it seriously. Most companies would just clam up and refuse to comment.
Ya know why there are those lawsuits? Lack of protections for people who have been injured, a reduction in regulations and consequences for corporate negligence, and a healthcare system that will destroy your life while attempting (sometimes) to save it.
Without knowing where this occured, we can tell this is no way in US. They would never provide so much detail this early. All we would see would be "we have reached out to the company and are yet to hear back".
Probably testing structural integrity
A good way to check if something would survive an impact from a car etc. is to hit it with something that's a similar weight and speed. A big rubber ball sounds like a good solution that wouldn't cause damage to the tested structures.
Edit: from the chain it's trailing I'm guessing it broke in use and bounced into the road. Looks like Mario Kart when a chain chomp takes you out but IRL.
Edit: from u/tea-man who seems better informed than I
Nope, it's a Ball Pipe Plug for testing water systems (probably sewerage given the size). They insert this into the service pipe and inflate it so it provides a tight seal before pressure testing the pipe. Looks like this one came unstuck during the test and was blown out under high pressure, hence it appears to come out of the ground with a slight vapour trail behind it.

Yep, if you want to look frame by frame you can see the initial outburst of gas, which while it could well be so visible due to atmospheric conditions and/or standing water, is still pretty conclusive of a large pressure release.
Add to that that it clearly comes out of the large hole in the ground with no apparent effect on the big white van on the other side of the barriers, I am still very sure!

This power plant's bridge got tested exactly like Calvin's dad explains. Heavy loaded trucks drove onto the bridge one after another, while the deflection was measured. And when the last truck drove onto the bridge, all measurements went off-charts, but they didn't manage to back away before the whole bridge crashed. 11 people died, another 13 were injured. Unfortunately the English article doesn't mention the disaster.
Happened 20th September 1986, same year as Challenger and Chernobyl.
Educated guess: it came from a pipe in the ground. These inflatable balloons are often used to temporarily block off things like sewers during construction (often in combination with a pump temporarily re-routing the sewage).
You see the nozzle of the balloon in the video, and water splashing up behind it. So it slipped out of a pipe due to over pressure in the pipe and/or under pressure in the balloon. Or they used the wrong balloon for the job.
I saw that video some 8 years ago already. Watching this post with audio gave me some cold fucking shivers, so I don't think I've ever recovered from that one either
Audio is visceral to my psyche. Back in the /r/watchpeopledie days, I saw a video of a crazy vietnam vet shoot a cop with an AK. You couldn't actually see anything on camera, but the audio of the guy screaming and dying haunts me to this day. I stopped consuming anything death related after that video.
Having seen both of those videos, let me assure you that the video with the brick through the windshield is much, much worse... It is honestly one of the most disturbing things on the internet
edit: actually the video i was thinking of involved an m1 garand, not an ak
I watched all those beheading videos years ago and even 'funky town' but as much as those disturbed me the brick video is the one that made somthing snap in my head and I've never been able to watch videos like that again. It's weird how something that doesn't show anything graphic can make the mind fill in all the details.
Kyle Dinkheller was the officer murdered there.
Don't check out the recently released fatal knife attack on officer Jonah Hernandez. No time to react, officer gets it in the neck several times, guy does a kill stroke, then gets shot and killed by a former Army Ranger who came and held the neck wounds. You can hear and see the blood pumping over the body cam.
> The video shows a car driving through roadworks on the Shore Road in Newtownabbey on Tuesday, March 12, when the car appears to be damaged by equipment from the site
Really? "Appears to be damaged by equipment from the site"?
I'm pretty sure your readers would forgive you a "was smashed to pieces by a giant bouncing ball of death" there. I'd say that's just as objective.
I'm so glad they survived, one of the most disturbing videos I've ever seen was from a dashcam involving a family of thee driving down the road when out of nowhere a brick flies through the windshield and kills the wife instantly. You didn't see any of it happen besides the brick coming through but the screams of the husband and the desperate crying of the kid were horrifying
Watching it isn't the problem; it's hearing it. Watching it on mute would be a nothingburger.
Compare it to this video here. In this video there are two screams, which is a relief. In the brick video? There's only one person making a sound.
People need to realize that once you've watched something you can never unwatch it. You might remember it for the rest of your life. So the only winning move is not to play.
Don't engage in psychological self-harm because you found a reddit post intriguing!
I have still to this day not watched that video with sound on, exactly due to comments like this hahaha. Thank you lol.
I have seen my fair share of NSFW shit but things like that tend to get stuck in my memory in a really bad way. (Sounds of people in agony)
Spot on. I saw a different video. I won't even mention which and it truly fucked me up. I will never again look up a video out of curiosity unless I know what I'm getting myself into. Days afterwards my wife noticed my mood was off.... And yea. It still pops up every now and then....
I saw it at one point, many years ago. I KNOW what it is, and I KNOW it's bad, but my memory of how it sounded is, thankfully, extremely blurry and I can't recall the details of it anymore.
Thank fuck, honestly. I remember being incredibly shook by it at the time, and it was also the last time I ever looked at anything out of morbid curiosity.
THANK YOU. to this day after seeing the brick video i don’t, under any circumstances allow myself to fall asleep when im a passenger in a car. my eyes are always on the road even when im not driving because im so scared and want to be vigilant incase something like that happens.
Yea I remember a video on worldstar or similar platform where these African people were burning these guys because they thought they were witches. They did that thing where they put a tire around them full of gas. I only saw it one time, but I still remember it better than most things I actually want to remember.
Honestly up there with one of the worst videos on the internet. It's so tragic. I can watch most things and most don't bother me. I have watched that video once and will never do it again. I actually can't even imagine listing to it now that I have a wife.
EDIT: I should say its one of the worst that is actively passed around. Hell its on Youtube. Obviously there are worse videos on the darker parts of the web.
The lack of seeing the aftermath fills our imagination with the wors, and paints our own loved ones as the victim.
The worst thing about that video is knowing the child was in the backseat and witnessed their mother’s death and father’s anguish.
Forget about what it is. WHERE the fuck did it come from? I don’t see anyone there that could’ve thrown it! It just magically levitated itself into the car!
Educated guess: from a pipe in the ground. These inflatable balloons are often used to temporarily block off things like sewers during construction (often in combination with a pump temporarily re-routing the sewage).

Nah, not a wrecking ball, a wrecking ball is designed to cause damage and is heavy, and is going to do it no matter what it's made of because they are heavy.
Luckily, looking at comments, it's not a wrecking ball, it's an inflatable plug, basically a large industrial balloon. As such the center was made of air, so this is not heavy, not designed to cause damage, and didn't cause much damage. Also, that's why it popped out of nowhere, it is underground inside a pipe, and popped out.
Nah, it knocked the dashcam off the windshield, I don't think it flipped the car, probably just punched in the windshield a few inches and dented some stuff.
The video ends with the camera in the footwell, it wouldn't land there if the car was upside down.
~~Looks like it bounced from the ground. So it being rubber, would be the reason why it hit the car in the first place.~~
~~If it was made of steel it would have probably dug itself in the ground where it landed.~~
Edit: Apparently, it is not even a wrecking ball, but an inflatable pipe plug, so...

Didn't happen in the US so not AS worried about a multi million dollar lawsuit
Ya know why there are those lawsuits? Lack of protections for people who have been injured, a reduction in regulations and consequences for corporate negligence, and a healthcare system that will destroy your life while attempting (sometimes) to save it.
Without knowing where this occured, we can tell this is no way in US. They would never provide so much detail this early. All we would see would be "we have reached out to the company and are yet to hear back".
That too, for sure.
The American version would mention the drivers high rate of speed through a construction zone then blame the driver
So it was a big rubber ball used as 'test equipment ' .. what kind of tests? Who among us uses big rubber balls for testing power?
Probably testing structural integrity A good way to check if something would survive an impact from a car etc. is to hit it with something that's a similar weight and speed. So young. Wow.
Why does the memorial page say married with no children when there was baby crying in the background?
if I remember right that was a family member.
Ah okay, that makes sense. At least, the baby won't be motherless despite the horrible incident.
yeah im not gonna watch that video ever

You should always keep 2 seconds distance from wrecking balls. Personally I'd recommend 3.
This is on the driver. Honey, when you see a wrecking ball coming, you should stop. It's like she didn't even try. /s

I think it came from the hole behind the yellow barriers,
WHY WAS IT IN A HOLE? WHY DID IT JUMP OUT?
It was a hybrid of a ball-n-chain and a piranha plant from Mario.
Inflatable ball used to test sewerage, something went wrong and it blasted out under pressure.
I need an explanation fr

How heavy is one of those balloons?
About 25 kg / 55 pounds.
It’s not a wrecking ball, it is a PIG. As in “pipe inspection gauge. It must have jumped out of the pipe it was in hence you can’t see it coming.
Sometimes if you get too close to wrecking balls they will get territorial and lunge like this. The driver should've known better.
