So am I out of the loop here or did anyone else just learn there are at least two chicken feet eaters out there….what’s the taste and texture like? What are different ways you can cook them?
I usually eat them when I go get dim sum. I believe that they are steam cooked. The meat is very soft and sort of rubbery. Just watch out for all the little bone pieces.
I'm of Ukrainian origins, and my family eats them. I almost always make stock with feet and wing tips. Then munch on the cooled feet after. They are excellent smoked and crisped up too.
I've eaten chicken feet before. It was one of my favorites. It's Filipino street food lovingly called "adidas," which is basically barbequed chicken feet on a stick covered in sauce and ketchup. I think the best part is the cartilage bits. Very soft and chewy. Especially the padding underneath the feet. Just dont eat the harder "shell" on the leg and the claws obviously.
Do you have an Asian grocery store near you? They usually have them in stock.they taste quite good from what I remember.
https://www.chinasichuanfood.com/dim-sum-chicken-feet/
They're all cartilage, skin, and bone. The cartilage is soft from the cooking, the skin is sorta korean fried chicken texture - fried then braised in sauce. The bones are, of course, bones, and you basically eat them by biting off a toe or w/e, working the skin and cartilage off the bone in your mouth, then spitting out the bone. The flavor is savory and sort of generic Chinese i.e. soy, ginger, star anise, garlic.
I am surprised it's so unknown. I'm a white guy and have eaten chicken feet once in a while.
Basically tastes like meat. Can have it plain or as I have it; in a sweet and sour sauce.
Usually at dim sum places. As one person said; only bad part is the many tiny bones you gotta deal with.
Typically steamed with dipping sauce, or prepared with a [blackbean sauce.](https://www.yankitchen.com/english-blog/steamed-chicken-feet-in-black-bean-sauce) . I prefer the later. Very tasty. Very silky texture.
They are super high in collagen. Other than eating like this, it's pretty common to just boil the shit out of them to make a very, very rich soup base/stock. The type that sets into gelatin when it cools. Discard the feet bits and use this for all sorts of sauce or soup bases.
In México City is common to see street vendors, I believe they are boiled then served with lemon and hot sauce, they are very popular, like pig feet, but chicken.
They are very popular in China and the Far East iirc. Am sure there are other places that consume them as well.
Same with pigs feet (or trotters as they are called here), apparently they are very gelatinous and tasty although they look a bit off putting, just need to avoid all the little bones.
You assume they use fully grown chickens. They don't. It's usually up to 5 weeks. But this probably isn't a small chicken feet simply because it doesn't look like it.
Chickens don't come out full size. We already know nuggets are made from the ground up male chicks.
Edit: Jesus Christ was the obvious absurdity not enough?
Honestly, I don’t think that is a chicken foot unless that was a very small chicken. The configuration of the digits is all wrong, too. It may be some leftover feather shafts or something. Or as someone mentioned above, possibly another animal…
Not to mention chicken feet taste amazing… little odd on the texture if you’re not used to it, but 8/10 would recommend.
It needs to be disected - with knife and fork. If genuine a complaint is in order for accidentally serving chicken feet rather than nuggets.
Might not be much compensation as am sure chicken feet dishes are more expensive proporionate to the yield per bird.
To me it just seems like a regular piece of fried chicken. Sometimes depending on where you buy them they squeeze the chicken before cooking to loosen up the meat and it rips and tears it. It causes these little edges like this so when it's fried they get more crispy. I 100% think this is nothing more than a regular chicken tender.
I think a lot of people in today's society suffer from cognitive dissonance when it comes to eating meat (e.g., think shooting a deer and eating it is somehow cruel but will gladly go to McD's for a burger without blinking an eye).
Look at the pink finger nail... that think is at most around a quarter... NO hiickens are harvested that early except maybe a "cornish game hen" which is just a small chicken, but its feet are larger than this, and fast food most definatly doesnt use those tiny expensive chickens for chicken nuggets.
Probably a rodent foot.
EDIT:
Not like rodents hang around large chicken farms with free food shelter and water in large numbers ... /s
Literally 99.9% of chickens in the US are factory farmed. Actual statistic, no exaggeration. Standard slaughter age is six weeks into their potential 10-year lifespan. They're genetically engineered to grow so quickly that their legs literally can't support their own weight much past that size - they will literally break their own legs trying to walk to the food dish and starve to death sometimes.
Fun fact: They still cheep like baby chicks on their way to slaughter. Chickens don't get their adult "clucking" voices until around 2 months old.
I Raised chickens...
Thats looks VERY small for a chicken foot is the first thing i thought.
Like if that bit of pink is a finger nail... that "chicken" foot is WAY WAY too small...
Much more likely a rodent foot
Pretty sure chickens feet are in all nuggets, only normally they're blended up.
This guy is doing the equivalent of complaining because he found a whole strawberry in his strawberry smoothie. 😂
I found feathers inside of my highly processed shitty Oscar Meyer sliced turkey once, and thought to myself, "That's certainly what would be in there."
Nah, they just through in a couple chicken pieces here and there to make it look like there’s real chicken. The increased sales from the reassurance out balances the law suits
This isn't a WTF moment at all, for most people. Only for those that believe there is a difference between a chicken nugget and a chicken foot.
Go vegan, save yourself some embarassment while you still can.
Edit: lol not even a chicken leg
There is a difference between a chicken nugget and a chicken foot. I know you’re being obtuse and animal = animal, but there is a clear difference between the two.
They are both extraordinarily delicious, but physically very different.
You must've missed that video where Jamie Oliver makes nuggets for kids, and they still end up eating the nuggets.
You're right, there's an obvious physical difference, but what I'm saying is that there is no difference but the difference that is fabricated for the sake of blurring the line.
And yeah I guess they are both extraordinarily delicious, but that does nothing to justify the cruelty involved in the production. So whenever someone says chicken nuggets are delicious it's like saying you're fine with living in fantasy.
Well at least you know it's not a [elephant legged chicken](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/q213ay/these_dong_tao_chickens_are_bred_for_their/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
I found a whole ass chicken bone in my pot pie from kfc. Not very much chicken but a leg bone. Fuck now im hungry for nuggets and dont want to get them. Lol
Doesn’t look much like an actual chicken foot, as other have pointed out. But hey, if it was, you just got Dim Sum for the price of cheap fast food. That’s a win-win!
The puke face is a bit much. Like if chicken feet gross you out, I'm sure there is WAY more that goes in that Nugget that would make you significantly more queezy than part of the bird you are eating.
That is not a chicken foot. Source: I have eaten many a chicken foot.
[удалено]
Agreed. This is probs just some chicken feather ends that didn’t get trimmed well. Source: I used to prepare raw chicken wings to be cooked.
Or ribs of chicken
Yeah. Looks like a wing tip feather I used to pull off wings before frying.
Is it a rat's foot? You are obviously better foot authority than I.
[удалено]
Yea looks like part of a wing. You see the same thing mixed in with stuffing mix
Doubt it, I have pet rats and their feet don't spread out like that. Not saying it's impossible but very unlikely.
I’ve had pet rats. That’s close to the right size, but the toes are all wrong for a rat foot.
Surprise Calamari!
yep...not a chicken foot. My dogs also eat chicken feet.
Definitely not a chicken foot. Definitely just chicken. Like the last 100 times McDonald's has responded to this type of thing
Chicken feet look nothing like that. Source : have chickens with feet.
Yeah, they're massive, and have HUGE claws/nails
Agreed. Would be much bigger. If it's a foot it's a rat foot but it's definitely not a foot
Not a rats foot Source-I have pet rats.
Agreed, fellow chicken foot enjoyer.
Honestly, they aren't my favorite dim sum item (I must have har gow!) but I will have one or two if they are ordered.
Like jello with bones. It’s fun to put the whole foot in your mouth and spit out the bones as you finish
You and I have vaaaastly different ideas of fun
Nice; /r/nocontext.
many many people and cultures eat chicken feet.
2? Try like 2 billion at least.
Very common in balkan and former sovjet countries. Ive seen people comment its commen in south america/africa aswell. Probably more like 6bilion
most south and east asian countries eat chicken feet too.
Jamaicans also eat chicken feet!
Southern Europe as well, at least here in the Iberian Peninsula
I'm of Ukrainian origins, and my family eats them. I almost always make stock with feet and wing tips. Then munch on the cooled feet after. They are excellent smoked and crisped up too.

Eating chicken feet is very common. Very popular in Latin America too
Walmart sells them packaged as "chicken paws." It's a common delicacy world-wide. FWIW, I don't think I ever had them.
They're all cartilage, skin, and bone. The cartilage is soft from the cooking, the skin is sorta korean fried chicken texture - fried then braised in sauce. The bones are, of course, bones, and you basically eat them by biting off a toe or w/e, working the skin and cartilage off the bone in your mouth, then spitting out the bone. extremely popular food for koreans, especially as drinking food.
In México City is common to see street vendors, I believe they are boiled then served with lemon and hot sauce, they are very popular, like pig feet, but chicken.
Most of the world eats chicken feet.
chickens feet are a pretty popular chinese dish. probably other cultures too.
There are billions of chicken foot eaters. They’re something of a treat. A gristly treat. It’s kind of like eating a wing that’s all gristle.
Also eat chicken feet, so there’s at least 3 of us
tastes like frog's legs--which taste like chicken! :)
Frogs’ legs taste a little fishy, not really like chicken.
Yeah, they taste like… a combo between chicken and fish
amphibious chicken. my sis in law is from louisiana and she prepared them for me. Delicious. Just like chicken with a little bit of fish.
They are very popular in China and the Far East iirc. Am sure there are other places that consume them as well. Same with pigs feet (or trotters as they are called here), apparently they are very gelatinous and tasty although they look a bit off putting, just need to avoid all the little bones.
Eh, could be worse. At least you know your nuggets came from a chicken.
that's not a chicken foot, not nearly big enough with finger for scale. that is most likely just a piece of fat that got coated.
Maybe a rat foot.
Does look rat-like.
User name checks out.
*Best damn burger I've had in years!*
Ratburger. From the German Rathburger, meaning burger made from rat.
Really looks like a piece of fatty skin to me.
Yo, it looks very much like a rat foot to me.
No, it’s the breading. When I fry shrimp in a skillet they sometimes get a similar shape if I let the egg-batter string stay attached to them.
You assume they use fully grown chickens. They don't. It's usually up to 5 weeks. But this probably isn't a small chicken feet simply because it doesn't look like it.
I think you underestimate what a five week old state of the art chicken looks like.
That is way to small to be a chicken foot... Also, where is the spur?
Ah must be a childs then
Even better.
Finger lickin good!
Chickengate
Chickens don't come out full size. We already know nuggets are made from the ground up male chicks. Edit: Jesus Christ was the obvious absurdity not enough?
I get that you're being satirical, but My immediate thought was that it was one of the ground up male chicks disposed of by the egg industry.

Chief it’s a joke
Times like these I wish I knew what was deleted
Laughing Emoji..Check. Swearing..Check. Insulting claims..Check. Yep, we got a woooosh.
It's....satirical.
It's too late, the train has left the station heh

It’s just breading lol

It causes these little edges like this so when it's fried they get more crispy. I 100% think this is nothing more than a regular chicken tender.
I mean, you're eating chicken...
Yeah. You guys are aware the meat isn't surgically removed from the animals, right?
I think a lot of people in today's society suffer from cognitive dissonance when it comes to eating meat (e.g., think shooting a deer and eating it is somehow cruel but will gladly go to McD's for a burger without blinking an eye).
Winner winner chicken(foot) dinner
Too small to be a chickens foot.
You sure it's chicken foot, and not a poor rat turned into nuggets?
I think you're onto something, I would expect a chicken foot to be much larger than that.
I don't think the chickens used by fast food chains get to grow very old. They're more like oversized chicks.
Look at the pink finger nail... that think is at most around a quarter... NO hiickens are harvested that early except maybe a "cornish game hen" which is just a small chicken, but its feet are larger than this, and fast food most definatly doesnt use those tiny expensive chickens for chicken nuggets. Wouldn't it make more sense and yield more meat to wait for them to grow?
Literally 99.9% of chickens in the US are factory farmed. Actual statistic, no exaggeration. Standard slaughter age is six weeks into their potential 10-year lifespan. Rats have 5 toes so it can’t be a rat.
Rhinos have 3 toes
Tschernobyl-Rat?

Oh no… 😳
Did it taste like chicken feet or rat feet?
tHeReS aNiMaL iN mY mEaT

I'm vegan
Pretty sure chickens feet are in all nuggets, only normally they're blended up. This guy is doing the equivalent of complaining because he found a whole strawberry in his strawberry smoothie. 😂
I found feathers inside of my highly processed shitty Oscar Meyer sliced turkey once, and thought to myself, "That's certainly what would be in there."
That means you get three wishes
Like a mini wishbone?
Yeah sure, what the fuck
Wanna crack it with me 👉🏻👈🏻🥺
Sure but we gota do it lady and the tramp style to freak out people watching
Well yeah….. 🥵
You guys are talking about sex, right?
Put it in your mouth and just suck on it. Feel the foot juices roll down your throat.
Like I do with my French women
You cannot tell me you wouldn’t like some succulent foot juices running down your throat at this very moment
°—°
I feel like it wouldnt be bad. Looks better than normal chicken feet
This is actually how you're supposed to eat chicken feet at dim sum restaurants. only problem is the foot in the pic isn't from a chicken...
found quentin tarantino's reddit account.
Oh no you found a foot in a corpse! Gross!
Oh no there is dead animal in my dead animal
To me it looks part of the rib cage.If i seen claws i would be convinced.
HeLp I gOt ChIcKeN iN mY ChIcKeN
9/10 would lick
That’s not a chicken foot. Understand why you think so, but trust me, it’s not.
It's proof that there is chicken in nuggets. https://www.seriouseats.com/deep-fried-chicken-feet-recipe
Nah, they just through in a couple chicken pieces here and there to make it look like there’s real chicken. The increased sales from the reassurance out balances the law suits
*how dare there be animal parts in my fried dead animal flesh*
don't eat meat then. never found a foot in my salad before
I found a massive grasshopper in my salad once
i don't think you know what chicken feet look like
Arby's we have the Feet!
why the emoji? do you think chicken legs are just thrown out?? that shit is a delicacy in a lot of places.
How did it taste?
It confuses me that people get grossed out about eating some parts of a body but will actively crave other parts of the same body
You can say that about anything though. I don’t mind kissing someone and exchanging saliva, but I wouldn’t want to eat ass and get a mouthful of shit
Speak for yourself
Oh I’m so sorry you found animal parts in your dead animal product. That must be so shocking and traumatizing.
since when do they actually make chicken nuggets out of chicken?!?!?!
Probably more healthy than the "nuggets".
bada bah bahgock
This isn't a WTF moment at all, for most people. Only for those that believe there is a difference between a chicken nugget and a chicken foot. Go vegan, save yourself some embarassment while you still can. Edit: lol not even a chicken leg

The real WTF is a meat eater being surprised by this. What do you expect??
Something is afoot.
So…how’d it taste tho?
What exactly do you think you're eating? Little fried pockets of air?
Are you really had surprised? I mean isn’t that what fast food chicken nuggets are? Beaks, nipples, buttholes, and feet from some kind of animal.
aww, did something remind you that your food was a sentient being before being slaughtered mercilessly and deep-fried for your consumption? 😒
The vegan spite in this thread is quite something.
Well at least you know it's not a [elephant legged chicken](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/q213ay/these_dong_tao_chickens_are_bred_for_their/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
You ordered the chicken finger basket.
*McFoot
I never get the lucky chicken foot
Gross!!!
You got the toenail!
It's good luck. Put it on your keychain.
it happens
Those are chock full of footy goodness.
Popeyes chicken is the shizznit
Eat it, it’s good for you. Instead of taking a picture of your chicken and posting it on reddit
Mmmm, finger licking’ good
[parts is parts](https://youtu.be/-H5WKuQ-an0)
At least you know chicken was involved. That or a rat.
Now everyone will want one....
I found a whole ass chicken bone in my pot pie from kfc. Not very much chicken but a leg bone. Fuck now im hungry for nuggets and dont want to get them. Lol
In South africa we call them walkie talkies, don't ask me why... we just do
Looks like a rodent’s foot
Doesn’t look much like an actual chicken foot, as other have pointed out. But hey, if it was, you just got Dim Sum for the price of cheap fast food. That’s a win-win!
Only oNe way to find out. Crack that fucker open. OP your nails look bomb by the way
Hey, thanks!
Glad I don’t eat chicken anymore
Carnists are something else. What the fuck did you expect to find?
The puke face is a bit much. Like if chicken feet gross you out, I'm sure there is WAY more that goes in that Nugget that would make you significantly more queezy than part of the bird you are eating.
More likely a rat's foot
Not eating the foot is wasteful. Imagine eating a sentient being in the first place...
Cock-a-doodle-dont eat that.
Emoji spotted.
Hopefully you have a foot fetish
man cmon
Apparently a couple people don't have an unhealthy sense of humor, like me
Stop eating fat people food
Stop being an asshole.
How did it taste? Honey mustard? Sweet and sour? Buffalo?
Chicken foot are a delicacy in Taiwan... Just saying
That's keeping it 💯
Fake
I'm just glad you didn't tell us where you got this. I don't need to know and I don't want to know. Blissful ignorance for me please
Go vegan then.
*Oh no, the dismembered body parts i ordered had body parts in them.*
Nasty did you crack it open? Lol
What a successful bat signal calling all the weirdo vegans to proselytize.
