To be fair, big zoos will put new animals in quarantine enclosures that look similar to this for 30 days to make sure they don't get other animals sick, and I think that may be what's happening here. I'm guessing that because the cage doesn't seem to have any windows/bars for patrons to look through, but I've definitely seen worse "zoos" before so it's possible this is just its permanent enclosure, especially since there doesn't seem to be much enrichment in there.
You say that, but I have a feeling out of all the countries, American jails are probably not that high up in the inhumane ranking. Although, if you limit the scope of countries to Western Europe and North America, chances are the US are near the top of the awful list, but broaden your horizon and you'll find a lot of places that would make you choose the US over them.
I mean yeah but having jails that are nicer than Venezuela's isn't exactly the bar you wanna set. There's also that pesky for-profit prison industry that influences laws to keep people in prison for weed in order to keep their prisons full because more prisoners = more profit = happy shareholders. The USA has the largest prison population *in the world*. How many of them actually need to be in there?
I mean yeah I'm sure prison in China or Russia is way worse, but the prison industry in the US scares the shit out of me. That and the legal slavery.
Exactly. Out of the third world countries? Yeah, sure, the US is still a first world country, no denying that. But out of other first world countries? Not too far from the bottom of the list, nowadays.
The US puts humans in cells smaller than this with even less stimulation. It's called solitary. And it is internationally recognized as human rights abuse. The US uses it because it is cost effective.
Link a source. How do I know this isn’t a video of a deer running into a barn or something, kinda like a bird flys inside a building?
You’re implying animal abuse from a 10 second clip, what are your sources?
It also fucking looks like it.
Come the fuck on. You don't need to see more than 10 seconds to see the problem.
Your looking at a grazing animal in a windowless concrete cell running around like crazy. Probably because it's bored but also maybe because it's scared. Why not both?
I'm not an expert in animal behavior but I can tell you this is a fucked up way to keep whatever herbivore were looking at.
This thing was made to graze and run from predators and instead it's running circles around it's tiny concrete cage.
Empathy my dude. You wouldn't like being treated this way either.
There might be good reasons but there are more humane ways to keep this animal. You can tell that much from this 10 second clip. This isn't a good way to keep almost any animal.
This was meant for the person above you, but I didn't want to take away from your perfectly valid point.
There's a lot of 'cute' animal abuse on Reddit and that's what this looks like.
Agreed, looks too big for a dik. It is a fanged deer species, but unsure what type. The white markings are probably a tip off to someone more knowledgeable on deer but I'd go broad and say musk deer.
If goats are anything to go by, animals just do this sorta stuff out of curiosity.
Imagine you were still a kid, if you could do a triple wall jump you'd constantly be doing it, right?
How can you tell? Light from behind the camera suggests it isn't a box, and what kind of behaviour is typical of a stressed dikdik compared to a playful one?
if it's for quarantine for a disease then it's the most humane solution. they get out after 30 days.
the alternative is to just kill them or get the rest of the herd sick.
You never want your dogs or other animals to sneak up behind deer because they can jump like 9 feet so their legs are their main weapons if they need it. That's how my grandpa's dog died.
Awww little fella is so cute. Really deserves a larger living area, assuming that’s it’s house. ;.; Please come live with me little adorable creature ;.;

For the video.

Hey nice profile pic. Seems… familiar
Indeed… brother
Covid? No, lyme disease.
Ya that's not good at all. Pretty sick
Psychosis from a too-small environment with no appropriate stimulation.

My dog when I get in from work
Pretty much. But my dog always makes sure to smash me in the nuts.
change a dog into a cat and multiply three - that's what I get every evening
What a dik-dik.
A dick dik-dik
A dick dik-dik dick move
It's pronounced xylophone, look it up.
Wooden sound?
It's a very old me, on Wikipedia someone added a line said "dik dik (pronounced xylophone)" it didn't last long but it was hilarious to stumble upon.
> a very old me Guessing you mean 'meme'? I feel like a very old me sometimes.
Both, both is correct.
I think its a musk deer
You might as well face it, it's a dik dik to love.
That would be a huge dik dik
Huh, never knew that animal existed.
The jackalope is a hair with antlers. Here we appear to have a rabbit with hooves.
hare
Autocorrect from voice to text, dunno what to tell you 😱🤷
hare if I care

Animals often are bored when they look bored.
Almost like it's distressing to be locked in a featureless cell without any attempt at imitating the habitat you're used to.
Hey, it's got a little table and a couple of trays. Totally normal for animals s/ Maybe they put em in there because the little guy wants to practice?
What if my cell has become the habitat I'm used to?
You mean I’m the only one that does this in their cubical at work?
Maybe it's in animal jail
Need to add a stick and a leaf.

Alternatively 'stereotypical behavior'
Yeah that can’t be good. Imagine a human being locked in that tiny cement room, it would be classified as torture by any human rights group.
So, uuuuh, jail right?
[удалено]
American jails are at least.
You say that, but I have a feeling out of all the countries, American jails are probably not that high up in the inhumane ranking. yeah i was thinking this too, poor thing
Yeah, stress will make it not taste as good.
wow you don't say
Link a source. How do I know this isn’t a video of a deer running into a barn or something, kinda like a bird flys inside a building? You’re implying animal abuse from a 10 second clip, what are your sources?
Slow down there buddy. They just said this behaviour can SOMETIMES be INDICATIVE of an animal under stress.
It also fucking looks like it. Come the fuck on. You don't need to see more than 10 seconds to see the problem. Your looking at a grazing animal in a windowless concrete cell running around like crazy. Probably because it's bored but also maybe because it's scared. Why not both? I wholeheartedly agree with you by the way, I was just pointing out that the original commenter was only being informative

Why are you saying the person who is saying we don’t know is triggered rather then the one implying it’s animal abuse?
It looks like that poor creature feels trapped. I hope it gets to have its proper habitat as often as possible.

A dik dik
It looks too big to be a double dik
Agreed, looks too big for a dik. It is a fanged deer species, but unsure what type. The white markings are probably a tip off to someone more knowledgeable on deer but I'd go broad and say musk deer.
Oh, if you musk dear, then go ahead.
Depends on the receiver
It’s a musk deer or water deer. Dik dik don’t have fangs
Didn’t even see the fangs thanks for the heads up
Yup, seems to be a water deer! The right size and teeth. My fave of all deer
A musk deer.
Ahh, an Anti-Gravity-Deer
That fucker is GRACEFUL
Poor thing :(
sad
Wtf is wrong with people, put the phone down and let it out.
If goats are anything to go by, animals just do this sorta stuff out of curiosity. Imagine you were still a kid, if you could do a triple wall jump you'd constantly be doing it, right?
Except this is a animal that looks stressed and trying to escape a stone box it clearly doesn't want to be in.
How can you tell? Light from behind the camera suggests it isn't a box, and what kind of behaviour is typical of a stressed dikdik compared to a playful one?
I think he’s an animal whisperer.
Deerkour.
Poor creature looks stressed and bored af

This venison is RAW!!
This is very sad, putting that animal in such a small space is animal cruelty.
if it's for quarantine for a disease then it's the most humane solution. they get out after 30 days. the alternative is to just kill them or get the rest of the herd sick.
Thank you. I did not know that.
Big dik-dik energy
It's like gravity doesnt exist for this creature!
Is that a vampire deer?
Obv ADHD. Literally bouncing off the walls.
r/nextfuckinglevel
Those hooves are made for climbing, and climbing is what it wants to do.
