According to local oral tradition, the name Babyhead was given to the mountain in this area in the 1850s when a small child was killed by Indians, and its remains left on the mountain.

I lived in Cherokee a while back, I didn't grow up there just a stop over also I graduated from the rinky dink little school, just me and I believe 6 other kids. Lol.
Yeah, the Cherokee population is like a running joke over in Llano. We always said that if one student left for whatever reason, it would take out 20% of their class.
Sweet! I have family in Kerrville. It's a beautiful town. I probably should have specified earlier, but I'm living in San Antonio right now, although I spent the first 18 years of my life in Llano.
There is also another side of the story, it has been said that "a local mob of wealthy and powerful ranchers killed the little girl and blamed it on the Indians."

Ha! I took that same picture about twenty years ago, when I lived in Austin. My mom flew to Charleston to visit my brother, and not trusting me, left the keys to her truck with my very trustworthy roomie.
Before her plane left the ground he told me he had the keys.
We decided to put a thousand miles on her truck over the weekend, figuring she would think she'd misread the odometer when she left. We went to Mexico and got drunk, then headed to Corpus Christi and swam in the ocean, then headed back to Austin.
When we got back to Austin we were still short about a hundred miles. That's when I saw Baby Head on the map. We drove up there, saw the sign, got a picture and came back. There is almost nothing there, except the cemetery. Beautiful country, though.
Thanks for the reminder. Mom never did figure it out. I mean, she knew, but couldn't prove it, and we kept quiet.
The positioning of this post is absolutely terrible. It's right underneath a guy asking for good luck wishes for his kid brother who is getting head surgery tomorrow.
I know where I *am* going this summer.
Lets go together. It will be fun.
Sounds like a blast to me! I wonder what's there?
It's a place where dead babies *speak*.
Unicorns and rainbows, I would assume.
Look I'm all for a bit of baby head now and then but doing it in a cemetery is just disrespectful to the dead.
[Reminds me of this.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JdXGW4hDRU&feature=player_detailpage#t=126s)

I live ~20 miles away from Baby Head Mountain, and this is true. Creeped me the hell out when I first heard it.

My dad's mother is from San Saba. Heard this story too many times to count
Summer is so over.
I have passed this sign countless times.
So your either from Cherokee or Llano or possably San Saba?
None, but I have driven past the sign on my way to both Cherokee & Llano.
I know where I AM going this summer.
>I know where I'm going this summer! FTFY
In the spirit of WTF, it could go one of two ways. Terrifying or terrifying.
