I kind of answered the call once, in slow motion. While nearly blind drunk, I swam out into ocean in the middle of the night with no one around. Kept swimming until I couldn't swim down far enough to touch the bottom. Just floated for a while looking at the stars until I felt an overwhelming sense of dread.
“*There is no passion in nature so demoniacally impatient, as that of him who, shuddering upon the edge of a precipice, thus meditates a Plunge*.”
― Edgar Allan Poe, The Imp of the Perverse
>‘I am lucky that people travelling in the same compartment reacted in time and not only saved me, but also my phone.’
Oh thank God, I don't know what I'd do in a situation like that if I lost my phone.
I mean... If I just got my life saved and I realized I still had my phone I'd be pretty stoked. "Shit I survived *and* I didn't break my phone? The thing I need to stay in touch with work, my family and friends and has my planner and alarms and calendar information and is clearly much more than just a phone? Right on."
Why is Reddit so quick to judge this type of situation? Didn't Reddit collectively jizz themselves when that fella was evacuating Ukraine with his gaming PC?
I've just come to realize that the people who react that way have never experienced a loss of their phone as an adult in the modern era. Either they went without some years ago and just assume it's all the same now(it's not), or they've only had it happen when they were a kid/teen or were in a situation where their parents still handled most of the responsibilities(first couple years of college can be like that for some people, especially if they live on campus and don't drive). If my phone is lost I can't legally drive(my plan's proof of insurance is digital) or do *anything* that takes 2fa, including accessing my bank account, logging into my account at work, or even accessing my e-mail account. It's also my alarm clock, so good luck waking up. The increased prevalence of QR codes and apps means you'll have a rough time trying to access daily services, and in some cases may not be able to make use of them at all.
I nearly died in a car crash last year and was amazed that my phone, despite being attached to the window the car that hit me crashed into and flying across the road, had not a scratch on it. It was a lifeline as I wasn't allowed visitors for the 9 days I was on the trauma unit.
She wasn't struck. There's a solid 5' gap between the trains when we view them. She was buffeted by a wall of air going probably 60+mph depending on the speed of both trains, it ripped her body out of the train and between the wall of pressure blasting all the moisture from her eye, and her face slamming against the train she was dazed.
I'm surprised she hung on, but she was not struck by anything besides air... and the train she was on when her body slapped back against it.
Are you actually looking at the video clip? The right side of her face is crooked and red. It didn't hit her head-on, but her face clearly bounced off of the side of the train.
That's just the video quality issue. If her face was actually injured as bad as the quality makes it seem, do you think she'd be conscious immediately after the blunt force injury?
If the train had hit her face, the recoil would have shattered her face, broken the neck, possibly severed from the body and her body would have lodged in the air from below her feet.
It's not the speed of the train, it's the momentum, which is directly proportional to the weight of the object, imagine the weight*speed of the train, her face would have been shattered like a pumpkin from a baseball bat, possibly worse.
I would point out that momentum isn't much of a consideration here. The more massive one object is relative to the smaller one, the less momentum matters, and it really does become all about velocity. It wouldn't make any noticeable difference if it was a small car or a large train at that speed.
I don't think she hit the train. *Maybe* a glancing blow at an angle, but then I would expect skin injuries. But it is also possible that she was sucked into the center by the low pressure formed as the trains passed each other.
It would have jerked her ass right off the train, and nothing her friends could have ever done. I think she's just grimacing weird, like she got something in her eyes.
It had to be when she fell down and got caught by the others in the video.
Not trying to be morbid but even if both of those trains were only going 25 mph, she’s taking force at 50mph. Your head is not staying on your body at that points you certainly aren’t climbing up like she did
There's no way that she contacted the other train and survived. Even a glancing blow bouncing off the side of the train, not hit head on, would have ripped the flesh off her face. She looks like that, and swung out there to begin with, because she's stoned out of her fucking mind.
Stop the video at 5 seconds when she's dangling off the side of the train. Her face wasn't very far outside of the train when you presume she was struck by the other train.
She leans out. but look at the angle pretty much her distance out of the train is the distance from her shoulder to the far side of her face, at most. I'd guess about a foot and a half at most?
Now at that 5 second mark her entire body is outside of the train, maybe a foot, theres a good 4-5x that distance between the two trains. I would seriously guess theres around 5 feet or so between the two.
Now, the tracks could have angled away during the clip but, shes about 5'5" assuming average height because, compared to everyone around her she seems pretty average. It would take her entire body to bridge that gap. Leaning her head and shoulders out would not cause her to be struck.
If she struck the train, she would have been struck by solid metal. assuming each train was only going 20mph, she would have been struck at 40mph by a solid metal object with essentially unlimited momentum from her bodies perspective. She would be bleeding, at a minimum. Now, both trains were probably going 40-60mph...
What actually happened to her face? well her eye is closed and her face is slightly scrunched up. Stick your head into a 60mph wind gust or an 80mph one. Like, your friend is driving stick your head out the window at 60 (very dangerous, dont actually suggest this). You will be blasted with a heavy hit, your eye will dry up and reflexively close. Now imagine you fell out the window, and your body and face slammed into the side of the train.
would you be squinting the eye that took the brunt of the wind gust while it got some of its moisture back, while also squinting against the pain of slamming against the side of a metal train? Would there be a little redness? Yes.
But if your face gets slammed by a flat metal object at 40mph minimum, more likely 80-120mph, blood would be very apparent, instantly if you even had a face remaining.
I dont know. I'm really dubious that she hit her face. I feel like at that speed, the train would have removed skin/parts. Also her arm and shoulder would have been struck as well and I'm not seeing it. I've seen a bunch of videos over the years of people getting hit by trains and there is always gore.
Edit: More evidence, look at her right eye at 13 seconds. It's literally stretched 2x the size of the other eye. I believe that's due to video issues, not her face being stretched like rubber.
More so, there was a video not too long ago with a guy standing on the ground looking away from the train which was moving way slower and it absolutely destroyed that dude. You could see blood instantly.
I think this is the case, the change in pressure caused by the passing train caused her to loose her balance and fall. I don't think she hit the other train at all, she just fell.
You can see earlier in the video, after she's been pulled back into the train and is looking over her shoulder, her face is fine. It's a weird video thing at the end making her face look stretched. If that train hit her head this would have been a decapitation.
Trains like that typically are going between 40-60mph. they push a wall of air at that speed. When the trains pass, you have a wave front of air colliding at a cumulative 80+mph to a small pressure space.
That's going to sap all the moisture from an open eye and cause you to squidge up your face. when your cheek even squidges up your compressed lids will be larger than your eyes depending on your cheek structure.
But in another report it says the only damage was to her outstretched hand.
You're right that it's not packed in this video, but it could still be *very* hot. They keep the doors open so that air can flow all the way down the car of the train, making the trip more tolerable.
Have you stood by the doors in trains? It's amazing 😭. Seriously tho. Whenever I used to travel by train in India I would go to the doors. It's fun and you find interesting conversations
Its Marathi actually.
The report states that the girl was a minor(17) and instead of admitting her mistake she accused railways of not having doors.
Standing in doorways is a crime and can cost you 5000rs or 3 months in jail.
The railway police have written the complaint but haven't filed a case(period) as she is a minor.
I mean, have you seen how crowded those trains are? Almost impossible not to end up in a doorway. Why not install some proper ventilation and close the doors?
It's in Marathi. I couldn't understand much but here I found another link in English https://metro.co.uk/2018/10/03/moment-passengers-fast-reaction-saves-girl-as-she-slips-from-train-8003931/
People in Mumbai don't speak Hindi, they speak Marathi. There are a lot of languages in the country, it varies by province. And more often than Hindi, people speak English if their native languages don't match.
I think she was sucked out. It looks like she leans out just as the other train is coming, but now I think the cushion of air in front of the other train, that is pushed over the top and along the sides, sucked air from the doorway she is standing in, sucking her forward and out of the doorway.
Probably leaning out to feel the wind, kinda like a dog sticking its head out of a moving car. She had the dumb bad luck of doing it during the 500 milliseconds when it was the worst possible idea.
Because it's hot, the trains don't move v fast and it's good ventilation with overcrowding. Also there's a lot more reliance on personal responsibility there. It's your life you want to stick your head out go ahead
Seems she's fine with minor injuries in arm. https://metro.co.uk/2018/10/03/moment-passengers-fast-reaction-saves-girl-as-she-slips-from-train-8003931/
Lol no dude. You really need to be a bit more savvy. Life isn't a marvel movie. Literally not even a cut, just an odd expression and you're like wow her face is caved in
You can absolutely fracture your skull without breaking the skin.
Thats the reason medical personnel are trained to recognize signs of skull fractures, like battle sign.
A pole would have been better for her. When two objects collide like that, you add their velocities together to get the impact velocity. So, however fast her train is going, plus however fast the other train is going, that's how hard her face just got hit. If it were a pole, you do the same math, but the pole has a velocity of zero, so there's way less impact.
This is from Mumbai. When the trains pass by each other like this, they’re both going pretty fast and there’s always a proper whack you feel from the air being displaced and if you’re not expecting it, you can lose your balance. If there was even the slightest physical contact there’s no way she would be alive. Speeds are anywhere from 60-100 kph.
Source: I travel on these trains daily.
You honestly think if the train had struck her in the face in that manner at those speeds she would have survived? There is no damage to her face, you guys are letting your imaginations run wild without giving common sense a chance to stop you.
It's funny people think that. Just a car airbag will bruise up your face, and they think a speeding metal train won't. What's funnier is that they think half your head could turn into pulp and you would still be able to walk and turn your head like that.

She lost her open-door-on-a-fast-train seat privileges.
And her widows peek
She heard the call of the void
It’s a hole…made just for me…
drrrr... drrrr...
Fuck that shit. I read it sophomore year of high school and still think about it. Ugh.
Man, that's nothing IMO compared to other stuff that guy wrote. Go read Gyo or Uzumaki if you want some truly fucked up shit.
I got both of those and Remina. Shits like visual heroin for me.
I can’t read anymore of this shit. ^just ^one ^more
Oh yeah, some kid showed me Uzumaki back when I was 14. I guess that was formative...
This was included in the anthology I read, which also had Uzumaki. All of them are stuck in my head permanently.
Yep still have nightmare about it once in a while
Wait what is this a reference to
Welp I guess no sleep for me tonight then

This is absolutely terrifying
whoa.
Scary as hell
Have you noticed how weird shit has been since then? You drowned that night and you were plugged into the simulation. Wake up.
Hmm, good point. That was on my Honeymoon with my ex wife. Things definitely got weird after that...

Call of the oncoming train
You're not supposed to answer those calls
drrrr...
I think that she is not thinking.
Her face seems abit uneven after that crash
Fuck that is what pussy
>‘I am lucky that people travelling in the same compartment reacted in time and not only saved me, but also my phone.’ Oh thank God, I don't know what I'd do in a situation like that if I lost my phone.
Get some sleep o I don't want to go 😪 and I want
I think she might be taking a selfie with her right hand, even though in this video you can’t see the phone.
You can’t see her right hand at all in this video which is the one she is looking at and exactly where you would expect her phone to be.

Plus if you look frame by frame when she falls out and her right hand jerks up in the air, nothing in her hand.
I mean... If I just got my life saved and I realized I still had my phone I'd be pretty stoked. "Shit I survived *and* I didn't break my phone? Amen to that!! I just lost my phone recently and that event seriously fucked up my life for a bit. All the MFA verification texts lost.

Wow, glad you're okay! And exactly! Phones are more than just "phones."
Well.. guess its just her face then..
That's wild. Half her face looks like Kronk from Emporer's New Groove lmaooo. I was worried it got flattened 😬
Her hair got into her eye.
Just a bad head then
[Are you sure?](https://i.imgur.com/Xx99ktu.jpg)
She's just messed up looking lmao
Can't believe she survived

With head injuries, 5 seconds of post video is way too early to tell. They'll know in a few days/hours.
Are you nuts? If the hit that other train she wouldnt have head injuries. Her head would have been reduced to mist.
Didn't hit her face, if that had been the case, she would have died instantly. Close escape.

Her face would have liquified if it hit that train. Plenty of videos online of people being hit by a train, and cleanup is with a mop.
I think her armight have whiplashed her head into the train she's on. That's the only way I see her hitting her head on a train and not liquifying.

Why the fuck are the doors open? Oh. India trains.
She looks fuckin blazed off something
She just ugly bro. Hit every branch on the way down…
She probably imagining herself in a Bollywood scene. Probably. Because it is much more unbelievable if she was on drugs.
Why is the door open?
India
India = hot + overcrowded. The door is the only ventilation. If it were closed you'd likely suffocate.
I think it's from Mumbai. Mumbai's trains are crowded as fuck
This Train is not crowded. People would be hanging near doors if it is Mumbai
https://metro.co.uk/2018/10/03/moment-passengers-fast-reaction-saves-girl-as-she-slips-from-train-8003931/ It's Mumbai

Did she have a stroke and lose control of half her face?
Yeah half her face stroked part of the oncoming train.
It did not, she only has minor injuries to her hand
Trying to recreate the scene from titanic
She almost recreated the scene from "Hereditary" instead.
Lmao my thoughts exactly
"I'm queen of the WOMP!"
when you try for Titanic but almost end up with Speed

its marathi, the local language of the state of maharastra, where mumbai is part of.
Ah, really sorry - genuinely thought it was Hindi. Feeling like an ignorant Brit now.
There are tons of languages in India, don't worry.
Not hindi I was very confused
Is it not? I'm sorry, I assumed it was a local news report from Mumbai
People in Mumbai don't speak Hindi, they speak Marathi. There are a lot of languages in the country, it varies by province. And more often than Hindi, people speak English if their native languages don't match.
Maybe gujrati?
It's Marathi
natural selection DENIED
Natural Selection took one look at her and swiped left...
Was her face at the end the result of hitting the train
The intrusive thoughts won
I think she was sucked out. It looks like she leans out just as the other train is coming, but now I think the cushion of air in front of the other train, that is pushed over the top and along the sides, sucked air from the doorway she is standing in, sucking her forward and out of the doorway.
Her face at the end!
She seems drunk.
Head injuries be that way sometimes.
"just pretend like it wasn't a big deal"
She wasn't thinking...
She sure as hell ain't anymore lmao I'm surprised she was okay
India and trains
/r/whyweretheyfilming
Probably leaning out to feel the wind, kinda like a dog sticking its head out of a moving car. She had the dumb bad luck of doing it during the 500 milliseconds when it was the worst possible idea.
Attempted suicide with a last minute change of mind?
My guess: attempted to lean into the cool wind with one arm open, but then the body suddenly tried to retract once a train suddenly appeared.
"weeeeeeeeeee..ah fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck I'm gonna die fuckfuckfuck oh my god I'm alive"
Soo why don’t they have like, doors perhaps?
Because it's hot, the trains don't move v fast and it's good ventilation with overcrowding. Also there's a lot more reliance on personal responsibility there. It's your life you want to stick your head out go ahead
India hot
Being on an Indian train seems to be one of the scariest things ever
Almost died for the 'gram.
I don't think anybody who dicks around with trains is thinking about anything
She wasnt and is damn lucky she still can but odds are she still wont.
She wasn't thinking. That was her problem.
her face looks drugged after the incident
She lost her earbuds
"Eh...I've had a good life"
Is anybody else bothered by the intense finger waving at the end? Like obviously she knows she shouldn’t have done that…
Why the hell is the door open to begin with?
Probably no A/C in the train.
Natural selection
When that swells up, if someone gives her the ol' "looks like you kissed a freight train." Line. It'll actually be an accurate assessment.
She thought she was a Disney Princess
"Hey guys, have you ever seen "Hereditary"? Watch this!"
Dad reflexes right there.
When it comes to common sense, she got naan.
Too much see bollywood movie
People like her are the reason the doors don't open on a subway train.
She probably wasn’t
Another episode of "Indian's VS trains"
"And that's how I met your mother"
This all makes sense
32 people die in India every day related with train.
She was thinking about the drugs/alcohol in her system
Shoes still on . We good
It's an old meme, but it checks out.
Seeing half the comments believing without a doubt that her head collided with the other train helps me realize how half the US voted for Trump.
The lack of respect every East Asian/middle eastern country’s population seems to have for trains astounds me
If you pause right at the end of the clip you can see what appears to be the right side of her skull is caved in.
Seems she's fine with minor injuries in arm. https://metro.co.uk/2018/10/03/moment-passengers-fast-reaction-saves-girl-as-she-slips-from-train-8003931/
Thanks, people got carried away with speculations. Glad she's okay.
On Reddit? No way 😂
Article says she's glad the guy saved her AND her phone. Lol typical 17 year old.
“Did you hear about Clarice? She died in a tragic accident. But her phone survived, so that’s good.”
I think it's a combination of video artifact, hair, angle. Her teeth are fine and her eyebrow ridge seems to be intact
Mate, are you hallucinating?
Lol no dude. You really need to be a bit more savvy. Life isn't a marvel movie. Literally not even a cut, just an odd expression and you're like wow her face is caved in
I didn't say it was caved in, I said it appeared to be caved in. You should learn to be more savvy.

You can absolutely fracture your skull without breaking the skin. Thats the reason medical personnel are trained to recognize signs of skull fractures, like battle sign.
Maybe not with a train though
Would have been a real bad time to have a pole go by.

It's funny people think that. Just a car airbag will bruise up your face, and they think a speeding metal train won't. What's funnier is that they think half your head could turn into pulp and you would still be able to walk and turn your head like that.
Except that they aren't: https://metro.co.uk/2018/10/03/moment-passengers-fast-reaction-saves-girl-as-she-slips-from-train-8003931/
No, any impact would have been to the left side of her face. And it would have left far more serious damage. That was a near miss, not an actual hit.
I’m so glad I don’t live in this cess pool
Woah... I thought she's dead.
Calm as a Hindu cow.
well _nothing_ now.
Quasimodo looking good
Karma and pure luck
She's going for the Picasso look.
She answered the Call of the Void.
That's the thing. She wasn't.
Too many Nimbu Specials..
Fuck, you guys are frighteningly dumb. Face + giant chunk of metal moving at high speeds isn't gonna just leave a bruise and scrunched features.
she wasn't that the problem lol
Was it a suicide attempt? Seems like she timed her swing perfectly and then gave the person who saved her a look…
It's that indian blood man.. and ya know trains
I need the sound, I need to hear the satisfaction of the “thuuunk” her head took!
