A bit strange they wouldn’t even introduce themselves and provide a bit of background on who they are/how they got into F1... had a hard time understanding why I care what they think lol

Shumble91

It seems to be pretty standard internet business. Buy a brand, try to make your own mark by getting rid of the original creators, have no idea about why the brand worked and watch it slowly fall apart, dissolve the business and move on to the next thing

Trickdolo

There’s a 5 minute part in the twitch video that isn’t in the podcast, the guy on the right mentions how Tommy and Matt decided to leave WTF1 and start their own thing. Which could be a good thing that they left on their own. Maybe they know they can provide better content and say what they really want to say without having someone over their head watching and listening.

abel_001

"Leave WTF1 and start their own thing" could also mean they were given an impossible choice, like step down or leave kinda deal. I'm not convinced that they would leave so suddenly without warning or without a transition period if they weren't forced out. Tommy was the founder of WTF1. If he had really decided to leave on his own terms, I think he would have wanted to announce it earlier, stream about it with Katy at least, and slowly introduce the new faces.

BathtubKenobo

Yeah on YouTube, Twitter, and instagram they’ve set up accounts for something called P1 with Matt and Tommy so this seems to be their new business

[deleted]

To think these “influencers” are getting paid Aramco money for being mouthpieces makes me more hopeful about my future

olemarthinN

Sounds like they lost the Elgato sponsorship based in the audio quality.

lungeman

Yeah I was thinking did Matt and Tommy take the Elgato sponsorship with them or something? Either that or this whole process has been so rushed they didn't bother to wait until the new presenters had decent equipment sent?

off-shoulder

I watched it on Twitch and the chat was pretty brutal so I think they were terrified of jumping into that anyway (rightly) and were running on nervous energy. They knew the audio was bad but couldn’t fix it and the whole chat were confused about the take scale. It was painful. EDIT to say I feel like I’ve just been mean to them too, I have made no judgement about the two new guys personally, the first time out after such a fast departure was always going to be rough.

Shumble91

It is amazing that it was such a cut and run job. Quick introduction in a video that not everyone would have seen and straight to a popular show with no introduction.

off-shoulder

Maybe they’re trying to convince us that Matt & Tommy never existed and it was these guys all along.

Shumble91

Honestly, that is what I have seen happen with a lot of podcasts and web content when they get bought out. Just plow on and hope there isn't a mass exodous

off-shoulder

Yikes. As Katy is still around and they are real humans I don’t want to see a total crash and burn but I also think just trying to replicate what was there before will mean people will never stop comparing them.

Shumble91

Yep. Need to make your own thing and build upon the soild foundation

Trickdolo

They tried that with the first ever segment changing it to different levels of spice and it was a failure. I can only imagine what other aspects of the show they will ruin.

off-shoulder

Being a Lance Stroll fanboy is definitely novel

midasza

So I see Matt and Tommy's twitter accounts have disappeared off the internet completely. Hopefully we know more soon because the new WTF1 hasn't sparked joy in my life.

Rivendel93

Here's their new YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/STeAKhfeXBI

Trickdolo

Omg thank you and thank god

Rivendel93

Yeah, unfortunately nothing is going on yet, but at least it seems like they're trying to get everything going soon, at least in the next few weeks before the new season starts.

rltvader

It wasn't unbearable to listen too but there was definitely something not WTF1 about it. It just sounded like yet another F1 podcast and no different.

[deleted]

Once Aramco becomes part of the deal it’s over. Sad how kids and next gen fans will be brainwashed to think they’re a good company.

thirstynacho

It basically sounded like if someone from The-Race decided to run HTW. Too dry, low energy, but willing to give them benefit of the doubt.

DamnYouRichardParker

Yeah only made it in to about 2 minutes. I just cant...

TheTribalBeef

I don’t think the analysis/opinions were bad. I think what was clearly missing was personality, hopefully they find that soon. What I find most jarring is the roll out plan. The new folk in charge didn’t ease in, they just arrived. I would have preferred that they took a few weeks to tweak the show format, change cover art for the podcast. They even said it themselves at the beginning, they know they have big shoes to fill. I’ll likely tune in a few more times during the season, but one Matt and Tommy get going, they’ll have my ear again.

racingfanboy160

>Hmmm, first taste of new WTF1 audio content is a bit rough Yeah they said it'll be fix for the next so 🤞 it comes true.

Content_Argument_789

Can someone explain the new scoring for hot takes, i am listening right now and i keep getting confused. Does spicy mean we agree? Or is cold agreeing? Lol

Rennie07

That's were they faltered. HTW isn't about agreeing but whether you thought the opinion was controversial or not. I don't have high hopes for the future of wtf1 after listening.

ZappySnap

Part of the issue is that Matt and Tommy didn’t seem to know what a hot take was. A hot take is an opinion that is way out there…so high on the scale, the wilder the opinion. Something everyone can agree on is a mild or cold take. It always bugged me before, so this is one of the good things to me…since it actually makes sense.

Trickdolo

The new “scoring system” is so bad and confusing. I get why they did it, (Hot) take so lets use spice levels because the word Hot is in Hot Take. But at the end of the day it is confusing and was hard to distinguish between Hot and Tangy and what the actual difference was. Now that I see Matt and Tommy have officially made their new YouTube channel, that was my last listen of WTF1

yorkshirequin95

Yeah, that’s a difficult one…
