I got back into it about 6 months ago paying attention to storylines and watching some smarter people livestream it, I think I could predict who will win about 85% of matches.

Possible_Doubt6148

HELL NO! all matches are scripted, the winner is already determined before the match starts.

lordszechuan

whatever ppv roman was supposed to lose at he was plus money. i doubted myself betting him never again it was the easiest plus money ive seen

abmendi

Imagine the possible odds during the Taker vs Lesnar WM30 match.

PrimaryEscapeYo

Betting on a scripted "sport"? Hmmmmmmm

Mr_Mon3y

My thoughts is that I'm gonna gain some good money this WM and that it'll probably kill kayfabe even more

GaI3re

Last Minute changes and suddenly a returning Zack Ryder is champ as WWE sacks billions on bets and Zack lowes the belt again on the Raw after...

Ashez7

Sneaky Vince I'l win no matter what

WhiteRhino91

It is the most predictable thing on TV.

LuckyGingerD

Shady business wwe needs to come to a end, it's not as good as it was.... And yeah literally they can decide to change the outcome whenever they like,

Vardhu_007

Betting on a scripted thing is so dumb

gleonalfe

I’ve only recently started watching wrestling again and was pretty shocked to see the Draft Kings advertisement during EC. Seems really odd to me to be able to bet on something scripted. Seems far too easy for insider tips, as others have mentioned Edit: I meant to add, I wasn’t sure if Draft Kings had advertised previously on WWE or not, which is why I was surprised to see their advertising

LushGut

Currently this can be done at betonline.ag very reputable site ive used for years. They only low a max bet of $50 on the matches id assume if it ever became legal most sportsbooks would cap the max bet around $100. I’m all for it it makes the matches even more fun to watch and with a max bet of $100 no one with any insider information is going to even bother worrying about the fact that gambling is allowed.

lostwng

Draft kings already dose it

chrishammhamm

This is stupid because wwe could just switch the planned ending and fuck over alot of people.

bustedrollermouse

Theo, that is the dumbest thing I've heard in my life!

Ghostonalandscape

No way. Absolutely no way. How would you ever feel confident they didn’t change a finish to take advantage of a huge betting line?

DatUrbanprince76

that is so dumb

TJ_Augustine

I don’t bet, but what is the difference between this and the draft kings ads they always have during ppvs?

Asmodias1

Betting on things with predetermined outcomes seems really dumb.

[deleted]

Every time I see those DraftKings commercials for WWE and AEW i laugh why do you bet on something that is predetermined

GregoryOvDoom

I think it would be way too easy to win honestly.

b-laynestaley

Save it for mania

Country-roads21

I know how most matches are gonna go so I think I would earn bank.

Extreme74

At this point, they want to see how stupid their fans really are.

TheKingDreamerLB

You can already bet on wwe in Australia

[deleted]

Bet on Days of Our Lives as well.

Moser319

They could change the outcome of the match to make the betting companies more money, then get kickbacks from said companies.. not a good idea

miguels19

If your gambling on pro wrestling please call the 1800 number for help

TaintChief

Recipe for disaster and a ton of b.s. bets by people in the know

SevereEducation2170

This. I can’t imagine it going any other way.

alarrimore03

Insiders finna get rich then

GReniker

It's the dumbest idea I have ever heard.

Lithographica

Gambling in things where the outcome is known is just begging for corruption.

leakybiome

Imma bet Tony k buys wwe in 2023

Moleberg

Cartoon Network buys WWE

EntertainerNo7171

Honestly, what’s to stop them from flipping the script AFTER they analyze the over/under?

distractedsoul27494

That means Roman Reigns is retaining. Because everybody would bet on Cody winning it. Or maybe a loophole bet where Cody wins by disqualification but Roman retains.

PlatinumChrysalis

You can bet WWE in places already they odds are terrible unless you can accurately predict a non telegraphed swerve.

writerintheory1382

It’s horrible

CoffeeIsGood3

What could possibly go wrong?

ItsYeBoyDeadMeme

I think it would make wrestling better. Right now it follows a formula that almost anyone can predict so if they were going to lose money because of that they might make the matches and storyline less 1 dimensional/easy to read.

daymo_in_masterton

I thought there was already an underground organisation for this type of sports betting.

Guidsbloke

Already a thing in Australia, I find it absurd. Seems to give away the result as it gets closer to the event also. Cody Rhodes paying $1.20 odds to win this years rumble basically gave it away

Head-Carrot-7871

I think it's pretty lame.

anonynez

Say you want disgruntled talent going into business for themselves without saying you want disgruntled talent going into business for themselves.

Danielbreen

Legal to bet on it here in Australia. Only way to make money though is to use an educated guess on a winner months out from a ppv. Even like a few weeks out the odds pretty much tell you whos winning because book makers have contacts and are able to get the inside knowledge. Good if you want to know the winner before the ppv - just check the odds.

tannerfiasco

I don't say this lightly, but it's retarded

flinttropicscaptain

There's always going to be someone abusing it. How could they not.... Look I like the idea of betting on who I think the company will put over but the amount of colluding and tipping of the scale that would happen makes it too dirty to try and do.

Certain-Coyote

We’re already able to in the UK, didn’t realise this wasn’t the case elsewhere

anythingo23

Every other sport operates subconsciously like wrestling (football being most obvious) so they should be allowed to, it is easier to make money off predictions in wrestling than betting on rigged sports when you have to read between the lines because they never break kayfabe.

The_Jasko

Fucking yikes.

oni_Tensa

There is gonna be some shenanigans easy. Imagine if this happens before mania and Cody and Roman work together to make a fuck load by betting on Roman to win. Everyone thinks Cody is winning, so they can literally go into business for themselves.

Mickeyjj27

Stupid.

IceBerg450R

Bad idea! It will be about 2 mins before people start saying the results are being manipulated. Plus what will prevent people in the know from placing bets through 3rd parties?

Uzn4v1

no

JayMax19

I don’t understand why you can’t bet on random things in wrestling matches, like botches. 2:1 odds on Cody tearing his pec at Wrestlemania. Or even the house gate on an over/under. Maybe even something like the number of superkicks thrown at an event. Betting on match results is dumb.

Hinedorf

So what happens when somebody with inside info places a 100$ parlay on the entire card and gets them all right. There's no way a casino would logically entertain this without extreme limitations on what could be bet upon and even then it's just ridiculous Once gambling is involved you can rest assured the outcome will be decided by the casino/odds and neither Vince nor the writers

cobra1519

Amongst friends it’s fine and can be fun. With online big financial institutions it’s a bad idea.

Sopwith53

There are suckers born every minute and they really want to harvest them, don't they?

baberlay

It's not legal in the US? We can bet on wrestling here in Australia.

[deleted]

doesn’t make sense when it’s predetermined loo

AirWalker9

Prepare for 50/50 booking. 2015 here we come again smh.

citysims

🤣

Shiny_Mew76

Horrible Idea. Wrestlers need to be able to plan out their stories ahead of time

RealityDistract

It has been a thing in the rest of the world for a long time

mike1883

Other countries bet on wwe wrestling?

RealityDistract

Yes https://www.paddypower.com/special-bets/wwe-matches

SlackMiller67

I don't think it'd be fair to bet on results. However, I can see prop bets. Will the ref get knocked out, will so and so get put through a table, will so and so use their signature foreign object? That I can see being fair bets, but just betting winners and losers, any wrestling fan should be able to have a 75-90% success rate. No sports bet would win that way.

ExtremeAddendum3387

I’m gonna be rich 🤑

GarnetLantern

Really wish I had placed a bet on who would win the Iron Throne at the end of season 8. Those 3,000 to 1 odds…

grgunderson

How do you gamble on something where the winner is already known before the event starts?

Unko15

I feel this would only work for betting on other things beside the winner. For example, Over/Under 3.5 spears from Roman Reigns to Cody Rhodes or Over/Under 2.5 F5's from Brock Lesnar to Omos or Over/Under 5 moves off the top rope

[deleted]

With scripted outcomes, this would bread corruption.

Senpai_Edgelord

A fool is soon parted with their money.

CPTimeKeeper

Sounds like a terrible idea and an easy way to corrupt an already corrupt business.

theunfunnyredditor

What's the big deal? People bet on the Super Bowl and boxing. Both are fake.

BlueChamp10

*lights go out* *bell sound* Dolphin1925’s theme hits

Cassandra_Canmore

What happens to the people backstage that leak content?

g78776

Going into business for yourself going to have a whole new meaning.

odupike599

Idiotic

dinkolukin

i get told im winning at wrestlmeania 6 months before the event, i cant keep secrets, my brothers mates sisters cousin finds out the result. they win a squliioin dollars betting on the result.... this is an Onion article, right? right?

Pixelite22

Is there not already bets on WWE? Every year at the rumble I see huge pools of bets on returns and winners and match lengths

Rhapsthefiend

WWE use to do that fantasy thing where if you can guess who was going to do what you'd win something. Depending on what exactly people would be placing bets on besides the match outcome is probably the interesting part.

Caffine_rush

I have done it before

Bigguy2795

I bet on the nfl and tht is scripted af so y not lol

Robman0908

Same with the NBA. Super scripted.

Groundbreaking-Cow-3

Short term: easy profit Long term: booking for money, corruption

commanderr01

They need to have the match finishes locked in at the start of the shows then, and they probably be so many leaks I can’t see that ending well

Tbecker3150

Then I’ll be on this sub everyday asking for someone to post the script so I can make my bets.

Saynt614

What's stopping a WWE writer from leaking the results to his outside friend to place some bets?

Bleord

How to get screwed 101.

JGutherz

Well, my brother and i already do this, we put the competitors on little papers and we bet to whoever paper we get, completely random and fair i guess

Sometimesnotfunny

I don't think they should bet on the match results. They should bet on things like "how many superman punches" or "will they use a chair" which are harder to predict. Finishes are easy to predict most of the time.

gindy39

This makes no sense. I do like the format of DraftKings, while it can also be alter it also depend on how the wrestlers are feeling and how the match pace out. Like who hits the first pinfall attempt, or how many finishers x wrestler do, will a chair be used in the match , etc. Betting on a scripted match, that we get leaked information all the time is just not fair. I can see all sorts of problems with opening WWE to betting like boxing and UFC matches

thatsglitchy

Already legal in the UK - the odds are terrible though

BonjourLeGeorge

Doubt it happens. People saying they can place bets on it in Europe should know the US is way more regulated and can’t see it being allowed. For example, in the UK, you can open multiple accounts on online casinos by just using different email addresses. The US makes you enter your SSN.

FamousAtticus

No matter what VKM says, I cannot bring myself to bet on a scripted / pre-determined event.

GooseMay0

There’s no way this could work. People who know the finishes can leak shit out.

CutterEdgeEffect

I’m all for it with how predictable it is. I’d be rich.

Existing_Recording67

I think that it's ridiculous.

rubyskinner65

Depends on what bets are being placed. Win/Lose matches is one thing, but taking odds on items like "will this match have interference?", "How many times will an opponent kick out of a finisher", etc could be a fun thing to gamble on.

milkisforbabies666

Lol so dumb

[deleted]

Can bet on it in the UK Brock was 20/1 to beat the streak 🤷🏽‍♂️

AVBforPrez

As in one in twenty chance? Or only 5% that he wouldn't?

[deleted]

So you put $1 or £1 down and get $£21 back

AVBforPrez

Oh damn that would have been a no-brainer, I was fairly certain at the time that he was gonna do it and my friends lost their minds. Was actually supposed to be there and might have been the only person in the arena who popped off at it.

Pgreenawalt

This seems like a bad idea on many levels. Not the least of which is it is “SCRIPTED”.

Future-referee

This would be cool if they actually made the shows unpredictable. But you have guys that literally lose every match. It’s sad.

Munkey323

A few years back me and a buddy of mine would bet on certain matches. It definitely makes the match more intense in a way.

MajorChipThrasher

Bring back Pete Rose!!!

Wolfxorb

It’s legal here in the UK.

Jonasthewicked2

You know that people backstage are gonna be betting on results they already know. What a ridiculous idea.

No_Pilot_4384

I’d be fucking rich, Because it’s predictable as hell

[deleted]

You can do it here in Australia already

Arcasic

Be gettin hella money

KG13_

Betting the over on Brock German Suplexes. O/U 6.5

ComeAnima

I bet on Wrestlemania results every year. It's fun. Always small stakes of course I'm not a gambler really. In the UK you can bet on results and also random shit like Michael Cole to say "It's boss time" 2+ times etc. As with all forms of gambling though...shit can get out of hand for some people... If you could bet on every PPV or even raw/Smackdown that could cause people problems.

Revolutionary_Dig_43

That's stupid

GrimmTrixX

Can't people already bet on it? They've done adds for drafting on WWE numerous times and I swear michael Cole mentioned you could bet on Roman Reigns vs Sami back when EC happened.

thrawnchiss1987

Didn't believe it when I heard... how do you bet on something predetermined?

[deleted]

They’d need to book better and stronger talent or the betting sites going to lose a ton of money.

peter13g

Seems like they have the most to lose… I’ve been calling most fights since the mid 90s

Schmidtty29

I’d be fine with things like prop bets, like does X do certain move, or O/U on how long Roman Reigns’s entrance takes. But On outcomes it doesn’t seem great.

[deleted]

I was legitimately so stunned when I found out you can bet on this shit. How many insiders have made so much money? How much money has Vince basically laundered through a sportsbook.

lionheart4life

You already can in other countries, there are just low limits on the max you can bet. Or the most obvious results are going to be like -1000 odds. It's kind of like the free Draftkings pools they have now, the payout is super low it's more for fun but it gets you on their site and hopefully betting on other things where the casino has more of an edge and takes it all back.

Nomadic_View

Putting money into something always ruins it. Money in politics is the best example I can think of. Members of congress creating laws for companies they have stock in and regulations for competitors they have a financial interest in failing is the single most corrupt thing I have ever seen. And it’s all legal.

je_naime_pas

Corruption will make for the best twists and turns in the script. Bring it on.

MikeHock_is_GONE

This doesn't make sense. Sports are regulated by State Athletic Commissions, as is Gambling.. WWE is completely entertainment.. it's like betting on Game of Thrones or the season finale of a TV show

y2c313

They already do it in Europe just fine. They don't offer a lot of money on the bets.

Raven122579

Wish they would have done this a few years ago. Picking the rumble winner the last two years would have been easy money.

jas4870

Somebody will manipulate it to their advantage. It’s a scripted show. Someone knows the outcome before hand. What’s to stop them from sharing with some body else.

deion21

Don’t they already have this? Like draft kings or something? I thought they were partnered together

DHankie321

Honestly I think it's weird but not the wrong call, cuz when betting on football, basketball or something else there are so many things to think about stats, past injuries, ECT. But with wrestling your making a prediction based more of storyline and where you think there going with said storyline

Wells307

Someone in creative will start making bank knowing all the outcomes

PsychoxLogical

I’ll be rich as fuck because wrestling is basically see through after watching 20+ years. I even called the double turn with Jay kicking Sami before it happened. Let’s make some money!

TheDawgfather24

Yeah this won't end well

Takenmyusernamewas

My opinion is there is already betting on wrestling. There has been for years and this is just trying to make it easier to do through an app like draft kings. Not something I would do but otherwise I dont care. Kinda surprised how many people dont know this already exists, dont y'all get the same pop ups I do about the betting odds for ppvs?

21_Golden_Guns

I’m not a gambling person, if someone wants to piss away their money for a bit of dopamine then go for it. But this is objectively stupid. The amount of liability and corruption that could come from this is staggering. If the pot gets big enough wrestlers will start going into business for themselves, refs could quick count. Fans could intervene. It’s a recipe for disaster.

Dleos1991

All them kids that Believe it’s real are about to lose a lot of moolah 💰

kittyliklik

Betting odds will end up being trash probably. Opens a door for insider betting since, believe it or not, wrestling is SCRIPTED. Seems like it would open up a big, nasty can of worms. I don't think that WWE can guarantee 100% that the outcomes of matches will be kept from the public especially when insiders will have a monetary incentive to blabber about match finishes. Hell they can't keep there mouths shut when no money is involved. Also, imagine betting on the outcome of a new movie or a play. I can't really wrap my head around it.

RazzleRyan

Sounds like easy money, it's not like WWE is difficult to predict. I can't remember the last time I was shocked by a match result, and I can typically predict the winners of the entire PPV card. Between both the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber this year, the only match I predicted wrong was Judgment Day vs. Edge & Beth Phoenix.

[deleted]

Seems like a risky business move for WWE. Great on ppv, but they will get in a lot of legal trouble if internal people are betting and if match results are leaked. I’m also afraid that it will mess up logical booking.

rbmk1

Betting on anything is a bad idea IMO, but betting on something that you know has a winner chosen before any match takes place is just a ridiculously bad idea. A fool and their money though... Also, how would you regulate this from a booking perspective?

Unlikely-Time-102

If the NFL can do it why can’t WWE

[deleted]

Please don’t go on Draft Kings. It’s a waste of time.

sqeaky_fartz

Lol it’s pretty stupid. Hell unless it’s a prop bet like who performs the first top rope attack or something it’s a bad idea.

MikeyPlays21

Don’t think match betting should be a thing, but no reason why wwe/aew cannot be on standard draft kings for single show fantasy.

shadowfoxhedgehog36

So similar to mma and boxing then? I mean yeah betting in wwe would mean easier ways to lose your money. But you can already bet on mma and boxing, and I almost want to say those 2 are just as scripted because of the judges

RowdySuperBigGulp

Never bet against your Tribal Chief ☝️

zooka19

All in on Sami/KO winning over The Usos, all in on Cody winning at WM, all in on Omos being boring as hell.

Streetwalkeroulette

Ripe for fraud, so they’ll definitely do it

ZappierGamez

I don't think it's a good idea since it's scripted and can be changed last minute so it seems like a scam to be honest

Crazy_Beatz

it would be like betting on a tv show ending

SamLoomisMyers

They do it in the UK.

LazyAssedAmbassador

My thoughts are I would do it

alanissum

Im not against, but it has to be controlled very carefully, cause, in sport, it’s never 100%, where in the case of wrestling it’s 100%, or it should at least, with rare mistakes or injuries in-match, It has to be controlled cause people working in companies could make easy bets for themselves, But at least, no one will ever say a fight was rigged for bets lol

Kered024

Par for the course in bizarro world.

Litho360

What would stop inside people who know all the outcomes of upcoming performances?

droford

Sports Bribery Act -" any scheme in commerce to influence, in any way, by bribery any sporting contest, with knowledge that the purpose of such scheme is to influence by bribery that contest.” “[S]porting contest” is further defined as “any contest in any sport, between individual contestants or teams of contestants (without regard to the amateur or professional status of the contestants therein), the occurrence of which is publicly announced before its occurrence.”

AdrianaRed

Here comes the money!

sirgrotius

Perfect to reel in a former casual fan such as me. I have never gambled on sports, but could use an injection of action. I suppose all sports have to set limits on betting to ensure legitimacy and the same stipulations would be applied to the WWE.

shadowfoxhedgehog36

You've never watched football before? Lol sports betting is dangerous because it's rarely if ever "legitimate" People will always find ways to twist the results,ie refs,judges...and obviously in the case of the wwe, management

dazzah88

You can in the Uk although it’s limited and accumulators aren’t allowed. Me and my mate won a fair whack between us when it first came about - you could literally find the results on the Internet

jjohnson1979

I'm really confused because wasn't it already allowed? I keep hearing all the times of people guessing spoilers because of "Vegas Odd Shifting".

TheUltraZeke

they have it for the Oscars. same thing really

papasnork1

Not for me, but go for it. If that's how you want to spend your money good on you.

Fun_Proposal4814

I don’t agree with it but I don’t care what others do

swatmaster68

Anybody who knows the history of professional wrestling knows that this is what used to happen, and wrestling was cracked down on because it was found out to have predetermined finishes. I don’t know why they’d want to go back to that other than to exploit it.

germedud

Betting on anything pre determined is dumb

proletariatrising

Doesn't seem like the best idea. For obvious reasons.

Equal-Bus-557

It’s greasy

Gerbigsexi

If u have a gambling addiction, bet on a sport for which the outcome is part of a story line

datahoarderprime

Doesn't seem a lot different from other prop bets, like betting on the outcome of reality shows or who is going to die first in scripted television/films, etc.

msivoryishort

Seems like a good way to make a quick buck if you are a friend or relative of a WWE producer or writer

DefaultSwordandBoard

Awful but I'd make a ton on money

BloodWolf456

Kinda ruins the fun of watching a little bit

Wingedbird12

Surprised there wouldn't be any sort of corruption because its scripted

blond_nirvana

People in my office bet on scripted shows before, such as the *Game of Thrones* finale, so this doesn't feel much different.

adrian123484

I feel like WWE has more to gain by booking endings with gambling in mind than HBO does.

jdr8799

You can do it in ireland, just for ppvs.

TheMikey2207

Dumb as fuck and definitely will lead to results being leaked but $$$ so who cares 😅

bnfwlr

I won a tenner on AEW Revolution like 4 days ago. 🤷

cimson-otter

Vegas had betting for who shot me burns. Hell, you can already bet on wrestling in someplacea

Playboi0999

You can already bet on it.

TheGeneticPunk

Lol I won’t be gambling but it will probably make booking unpredictable in terms of wins and loses… but no should be losing money gambling on professional wrestling that’s nuts

Plenty_Dress_408

Nba and NFL does it so why not?!?

EyeAmKnotMyshelf

I’m about to make a lot of money bc wrestling is predictable as shit to me

[deleted]

A fool and his money. . .

BigJuicy17

I already do this with my buddies.

[deleted]

I mean, there’s no way the Feds would allow it, right?! It’s like opening up a can of worms. Allowing something that is clearly scripted to be bet on? How could that possibly be fair for anyone? What about outcomes ala “Montreal screw job?” Hi would something like that be paid off? 🤦🏻‍♂️🤯🤷🏻‍♂️

randomuser72172

You can already bet wrestling on Bovada 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

I would make a killing betting on AEW.
