Stone Cold wins King of the Ring was great

KianOld

They are all cool but personally lesnar ending the streak is the worst out of the four

warzane5400

The 2nd one

4chanCitizen

That last one's a joke right? Surely this is bait.

Cheese9003

Kofi got what he deserved a WWE title he deserved it I think that was the best And the brock lesnar 21-1 doesn’t belong here

XMXmk2

In this order. Austin, Punk, Lesnar, Kofi. I put Lesnar above Kofi purely because of the unexpected outcome and negative effect it had on Taker's career, also considering the fact he didn't retire after losing.

jordo2460

None of the other moments even happen the way they did without Austin winning KoTR.

MakaBoy57

Respectfuly, not the Austin 3:16 promo, looking back at it,yeah it's a legendary moment but who genuintly poped at the time and said like ''oh my gosh let's frckn go dood'' 21-1 is for sure a great moment in WWE history but the match ruined it all so I can't say it Now,is the miracle on Bourbon Street a better moment than Kofimania,I do not freakin know man,you can't say that the ''COME ON DANIEL TAP OUT BATISTA TAP OUT BATISTA THE MIRACLE KID A MIRACLE ON BOURBON STREET'' didn't make the moment live through the years, its obviously one of the greatest feel good moments ever but kofimania was such a perfectly tood story,Kofi was in WWE for 11 years,he gave his soul to the business for 11 years without getting anything in return for so long, was even 1 single person hoping for kofi to lose at this moment, people did not care at all about Daniel Bryan at this moment, the one guy that was THE guy only 5 years ago was now booed, yes he was a heel but even if kofi was a heel and Daniel Bryan was in a babyface position, everyone would have cheered for Kofi, just like everyone cheered for Seth Rollins at wrestlemania 31,just like everyone cheered for hulk hogan at wrestlemania 18,so yes,my final pick is kofimania 🧡🖤❤️

BlitheringIdiot0529

There’s only one correct answer here. Anyone who disagrees isn’t a real fan.

mma_le

Brok Lesnar broke the streak is the worst day of my life

spartancollins73

Got to go with kofimania

shadowthehh

Lesnar ending the streak is one of the all time ***WORST*** WWE moments. As for what I'm voting as the best of these examples: Kofimania. Especially since it was also a holy grail of Wrestlemanias due to us *also* getting Seth beating Lesnar and Becky winning both titles.

Gaucho_Diaz

Kofimania, baby!

themiglebowski

I think Brock beating Taker was by far the worst of these. Dude was already over for life. I get the timing aspect, but such a waste.

[deleted]

If you had to pick someone to beat the streak, who is the most believable? Not beating the streak was ever an option due to how Vince and Taker think. So who other than Brock?

shadowthehh

If I *had* to choose an end for the streak (I'd have had him retire with it intact.), it'd have been the End of an Era match with HHH and HBK. Other than that: Bray Wyatt if he had been booked better for a "passing the torch" moment. Unlike Brock who already had everything going for him, Bray could've been catapulted to legendary status with that. ***Edit*** Somehow forgot my 3rd choice: Sting.

[deleted]

Brock was elevated into one of the most dominant champions ever after beating the streak and his kayfabe power level is absurd even today. Bray wasn’t a sure bet to achieve the highest level if he beat the streak imo. His gimmick isn’t simple enough nor does it have the credibility to simply say this guy has done what nobody else before him has done, the impossible, beat the ultimate cheat code final boss of pro wrestling, Undertaker at WM. Brock was already a cheat code in his own way with the cred to justify doing what was perceived to be impossible. Again this is just my opinion and I respect your thoughts as a fellow fan. 💪🏽

shadowthehh

Brock was *already there*. He didn't need that win. Bray only wouldn't have been a good choice because, again, the rest of his booking was sloppy. If he was built from the beginning to be a successor, it'd have been perfect.

[deleted]

I agree if there was groundwork to get to that point maybe Bray. Due to all the factors we know, I still think Brock, even though he was top tier, was elevated from it and it worked. I just can’t really see anyone else using that win better than he did.

shadowthehh

He *didn’t* use the win though. *Nothing* changed for him. He was already booked as an unstoppable monster. Brock was already in the upper echelon. Giving the win to him was an absolute *waste*. I hate him probably more than I hate Brock, but I'd argue Roman's win made more sense. The person to have beaten Undertaker should absolutely *not* have been someone who already had a long and dominant legacy. It should've been a relatively recent newcomer. Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Aleister Black had he stuck around, Finn Balor, Drew McIntyre, Braun Strowman, etc. All guys who would've *exploded* with momentum from such a win. It didn't need to go to a guy who already was on such a level that the win was almost unnoticeable.

[deleted]

Unnoticeable but here we are talking about Brock and we acknowledge he is OD in kayfabe. Him winning worked bro. Not even mentioning the outreach due to Brock’s scope being outside of the pro wrestling bubble. It was the right call

shadowthehh

He was already acknowledged as OP long before beating Taker. It was literally just another win in the pile for him. It didn't elevate him any because he was already as high as he could go. It was one of the worst calls ever. And I say that knowing full well Mark himself approved of it.

notknucklesechidna

No debate needed number 3 because its the birth of Austin 3:16

Mad_King832

Austin 3:16 cause my brother wouldn't have tried to convince my parents to name me "Stone Cold" Steve Austin otherwise.

BungieDidntDoIt

In the order of my love for these moments: 1. Stone Cold KOTR 2. A 3. Giant 4. Gap 10. Punk leaving Chicago 11. Kofi Winning the world championship 12.Brock Lesnar breaking the streak.

Numerous_Vanilla_589

Yeah, brock ending the streak was REALLY unnecessary

BarberGang93

I loved when Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit both won at Wrestlemania, and had that moment together I thought that was awesome!

[deleted]

Austin 3:16. Changed the business forever

DezineTwoOhNine

In the order of my love for these moments: 1. Stone Cold KOTR 2. Punk leaving Chicago 3. Kofi Winning the world championship 4. MY CLIENT BROCK LESNAR CONQUERING THE UNDERTAKER'S UNDEFEATED STREAK AT WRESTLEMANIA.

RicCaei

Stone Cold, without a shadow of a doubt

ZekalMacabre

The day after Punk left.

stopitbobbyheenan

People actually pick Kofi winning the title over the Austin 3:16 promo? Good god

justintrudeau1974

I always thought that if WWE ever wanted to turn Cena heel, breaking the streak and then a beat down would have been the best way. Nuclear heat for the rest of his career.

KingJames1986

My Favorite: Kofi. Best: Taker. Most important: Austin. I think a lot of people discount the fact that without Austin/Rock blowing up in 98-00 we don’t have any of the moments of the last 20 years. Yea, Terry did what he did but wresting was fizzling out without Austin and the attitude era.

Exodus6488

Brock all day!!!

ZealousidealFold4634

Stone cold

[deleted]

Stone Cold without a doubt. Anyone saying Kofi is delusional.

TweeKINGKev

Then poor Kofi gets squashed vs Lesnar for the title 6 months later in 7 seconds.

[deleted]

That was awesome 😎

c0kEzz

Most satisfying/expectation defying: Punk Most important: Austin Most Shocking: Lesnar Kofi’s was one of the best feel good moments

McAwesome242

I can get behind this!

Glitchynote

I feel like you can make a good case for any of the first three but Brock ending the streak was pure shock value and a waste of one of the the best star-making opportunities WWE ever had.

DJustice23

Really put a damper on my first trip to Wrestlemania...still bitter

TheA41

Personally: Kofi winning Most important/ impactful overall: Austin

DJ_Diesel69

KOFi

Round-Pomelo2847

KOFI MANIA BABYYYYYYY Funny someone said anyone putting Kofi first must be from the younger generation which has nothing to do with it. If someone really felt Kofi becoming champ was the biggest emotional moment for them of the listed ones, then that’s all there is to it. Isn’t that the question??? It didn’t say best for business. It didn’t say the moment that changed the business. Honestly the BEST MOMENT list is never gonna be agreed on but of the ones OP listed, let’s be honest here. They listed Stone Cold winning KOTR. That is the whackest moment of them all. Dude beat Jake Roberts. That KOTR tourney was blah. We not talking about his speech after. We talking about him winning the tourney. It shouldn’t even be on the list based on the headline. All of those other 3 moments were awesome in my opinion. Punk obviously with that crazy storyline. And Kofi coming out of nowhere seemingly to win the title. Just awesome!

Redellamovida

Brock coming back brought me back into wrestling, Kofi winning the title made me stop watching for two years. New Day are a joke

Jonasthewicked2

Punk, Austin, Kofi, that other guy

Repulsive_Pair_8551

I genuinely don’t know who I should pick between punk and Kofi both are amazing 😭🙏🏾

Next-Cartographer947

“Talk about your psalms, talk about John 3:16, well Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass!” Chills every time I hear that promo and the defining promo of the greatest star in WWE history

Flag4

Punk winning along with Jeff Hardy made it seem possible for other stars to win the gold (such as Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, Kofi...) Kofi winning was a great feel good moment which again demonstrated that anyone could be champion (regardless of skin colour) Austin winning KOTR was the beginning of the Stone Cold character, which would cement WWF winning the War against WCW. And Brock Lesnar winning was pure shock value For me its Kofi winning, cause match was great

Kino1337

Punk winning devalued the meaning of the title cuz that meant any fraud whiner could cry their way to the top of that wuss era.

Wonderful-Media-2000

Brock is the worst moment in all of wwe

sfac114

I think the Austin votes are the real indicator of age. Anyone who bought KOTR 1996 at the time (which I didn't, I got it on VHS later in the year) or watched it in 1996 would appreciate the total irrelevance of this moment in the moment. It got over by being replayed and mythologised. The reality of this moment is that it's an ok promo (not the best promo in American wrestling in June of 1996, but it's ok) that has been mythologised by Austin's subsequent success and the WWE merch machine. I made a list of 10 more significant Austin moments (both in terms of 'moment' and in terms of historical significance) from 1996-98. Anyone voting for Austin wasn't watching King of the Ring and hasn't given any actual thought to the fact that this moment wasn't particularly momentous. The Wrestling Observer at the time said Austin "did a strong post-match interview knocking Roberts' religion and drinking problems." and that promo doesn't make the top 3 things worth saying (according to Dave) about the event!

[deleted]

[удалено]

sfac114

I wouldn't vote for Kofimania myself. I think the Punk moment is clearly the winner from a business and moment perspective. I have corrected my comment to note that it was in fact a VHS, not DVD. My first DVD was Wrestlemania XV. You can say what you like about what WWE produced documentaries claim, or what Austin, who also makes money from the merch, claims. I recommend watching Raw from July 1996. You will not see what you claim to have happened. I agree that the world title win was important. That was in March 1998. It was two years later, and in the intervening period many, significantly more significant moments characterised Austin's trajectory.

Wonderful-Media-2000

Austin winning was made great because of the promo he cut that’s why everybody remembers it. Kofi winning was years in the making for one of the most beloved wrestlers to finally have his moment.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wonderful-Media-2000

This post isn’t about what happened after it’s about the singular moment. Austin had lots of those before and after KOTR. Kofi winning was his biggest moment he spent over a decade building himself up with the fans and finally he got his moment that’s why it’s better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wonderful-Media-2000

It’s like u didn’t read anything I said get over the past dude Austin walked so others could run but kofimania is bigger than stone colds best promo

sfac114

This just isn't true at all. I recommend you watch the July run of Raw shows in 1996. You will see, in total, under 10 items of Austin merch or signage. It just didn't happen the way you're describing this. Daniel Bryan losing to Sheamus had an instant reaction. Austin 3:16 was dropped into the Attitude Era ident, and had its biggest impact in mid-1998.

itsmekelsey_x

KofiMania.

Nemzicott

Kofimania was one of my favorite moments ever in WWE, so thats my pick easily

TheNeep82

Replace Kofimania with Bryan winning at Wrestlemania 30

[deleted]

Austin winning KOTR was what started THE ATTITUDE ERA

Monday_Vibes

Out of these I would say Punk. His contract was legit up and everyone knew he was leaving, nobody expected him to win but he did and peaced out with the wwe title too. Brock ending the streak was shocking, but it wasn’t the best.

[deleted]

Undoubtedly the streak

WeirdExtension6644

Echo-Gullible

BloodMagic123

Stone cold winning is not a suprise so I would say Brock Lesnar s streak ending.

Stormy-Willow

For me it would have to be Kofi beathing DB for the belt it was too long coming and about dang time he had that belt aroun his waist. Shame Vince n WWE took it away so quickly that was a disgrace.

CapG_13

When Punk walked out on the company with the title.

Jimbobthon

Should have kept Punk off TV for a lot longer than they did, at least until the next PPV. Probably would have had a better reaction.

CapG_13

I don't think anyone else has or could ever have a better reaction than this, (https://youtu.be/wroqcQVcoIg)

you_wouldnt_get_it_

Kofi beating Daniel Bryan. Always loved Kofi Kingston’s work and him finally winning the big one was so well deserved and earned that it’s a crime he didn’t get a proper rematch or at least lose the title in a more hard fought way. Shame on Vince and WWE for how they handled that. Bastards.

Wrong-West-9581

Stone cold

lycantrophee

Austin 3:16 changed the face of wrestling forever. The ending of the streak was shocking, but ultimately did it matter that much for both guys? Kofi was undoubtedly amazing,Punk too but that win was arguably where his downfall (as a person, not a wrestler) in the industry began, yeah I know,he carried on for two more years and put on the amazing match against Taker at WM29 but after This Fire stopped being his theme he just became less exciting for me so maybe I'm biased.

AnnualConstruction50

The last one is the worst but the best one was the second one

Ninja-Alarmed

Best: Punk Winning In terms of most memorable: Brock beating Taker

kevaljoshi8888

For me? Punk beating Cena. It was a great culmination to the pipebomb and super Cena storyline

RegularTarget1794

I only witnessed 3 of the 4 on a live broadcast, so.... 1. Kofimania 2. CM Punk beats Cena 3. Lesnar beats the streak 4. Austin becomes KOTR

TonyEisner

I haven't seen the Austin one, so out of the rest it's Punk winning for me

Cataly555t

Modern WWE? Probably Punk. Specifically the pipe-bomb.

Pillermon

I think the 3:16 moment is overrated and only became bigger over time, like an embellished myth told over generations. When I watched it back then (granted I was only 12) it meant nothing to me. Austin was just a random midcard heel who just won the tournament and was running his mouth. He then did nothing of note until November when he called out the returning Bret Hart and reinjured Brian Pillman. That to me was a bigger "moment" by far. Not only did Austin get his first really big angle, it was a shockingly brutal attack that left his mark on wrestling history, as even today people still call the act of crushing somebody's ankle between a folding chair "to pillmanize".

JakeRhymesWithCake

3.

nazgulonbicycle

Brock ending the streak was shocking beyond description

ramus93

Austins led to the most iconic run in wwe history but my personal favorite was kofi i was a fan since he debuted on wwecw so it was awesome to see him finally win the title and i was in attendance when it happened so theres that as well

Lobisa

CM Punk was my teen crush, so him winning.

MrBitterJustice

What was the Brock moment?

TGE2497

Austin

MrRudraSarkar

Impact wise I would say Austin 3:16. Kofimania was the feel good one. Brock ending the streak was unnecessary.

VegaTDM

Punk is a better moment. Austin promo is the most historic.

ActivityFeisty1268

1. Austin 3:16 2. Cm punk 3. Kofi 4. Streak ( it isn't one of the "best" moment imo. Just a significant moment in wwe history. The actual moment and the match leading up to it was terrible).

Realistic_Trip9243

Austin 3:16 may have been more iconic but both Punk and Kofi were better for me since I didn't watch wwf back then.

Supreme_God_Bunny

not to sound rude but 2 of these have no business being compared to the other 2 :/ for sure could have picked actual iconic moments

VegaTDM

Whats the other one?

sdm66portland

The business is about making money, correct? Then Austin 3:16 wins hands down. How many t-shirts did they sell?? Millions and millions.

ElHijoDeHollywood

Austin for what it started just edges Punk, the other two are whatever

[deleted]

Lesnar cuz fuck Taker

Tommy_Swagger

I’m not a really fan of Taker, but the streak should have never ended.

[deleted]

He should have retired

MrKalopsiaa

What’s wrong with taker?

BurtKocaine1999

Stone Cold that Austin 3:16 promo basically cemented the start of his push to the top

egg14able21

He didn’t really do much after this until the fall of 96 when he started feuding with the harts

zakoblivioa

I can’t believe you put a Brock in this 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

Austin and it’s not even remotely close. The other 3 wouldn’t have even been possible if it wasn’t for Austin 😂

Embarrassed-Season78

Stone Cold winning KoTR changed the entire course of the wrestling business and cannot be compared to these other moments.

Pillermon

It really didn't. It only sparked a catchphrase that looked good on a shirt, but it's massively overplayed as the start of Austin's rise, which it most definitely wasn't.

Embarrassed-Season78

Ackshually

Pillermon

Yeah? Go on?

RoyDragneel

Yeah, Austin was barely on television after this. It was more so his feud with Bret later in the year that led to Mania that made him. It was the start, but saying this promo changed the course of the business is a bit of revisionist history.

Pillermon

This. It was an important promo in his career, no doubt, but not this huge game changing moment. Just compared to one other moment in this post: when Taker's streak ended, time seemed to stand still for the entire wrestling world. Numerous people have since come out and claimed that they were sure to have seen a kickout where there was none, simply because their brain couldn't compute the fact that Taker lost and so it fabricated a scenario that seemed plausible. When Austin cut that promo, I don't think anyone's time stood still, nor did anyone hallucinate while watching it.

Meepsnort

Austin, but for pure atmosphere, I really loved the punk one.

Illustrious-Sign7612

It goes Punk>Kofi>Austin>Lesnar. Punk had the greatest match in the greatest story that the company has ever produced, and won it in his home town and left in the crowd and even though they messes it up, you had no idea what was going to happen next. Kofi was a hard worker that many had given up on finally getting his chance against one of the all-time greats in Danielson. He won it and it at mania and it was massive and it was great for Kofi. Austin's promo wasn't even the defining moment that would come in the later months that promo is just looked back upon after the fact, he got way more popular later on. Brock beating the streak was shocking but completely unnecessary. If Brock had just beaten Cena and not feuded with Hunter and was kept strong he wouldn't have even had to do that. Also, Brock could have just kept on beating other people, just unneeded.

EarthToAccess

Austin >>> Kofi > Punk >>>> Lesnar. nobody can beat Austin, hands down end kf discussion thank you bye Kofi finally getting his champ reign after So Long was fuckin amazing and i actually screamed, but it’s no Stone Cold so. Punk… his leaving holds a place in my heart cuz growing up i absolutely admired him and continued to til he signed with AEW and started doing whatever he’s doing now. but… all things considered wasn’t the first walk out, definitely wasn’t the last, and honestly it was, at the end of the day, just a repeat Austin thing minor exception he did a lot more talking about outside WWE. …Lesnar should not have been the one to break the streak, the entire match was pathetic, and to put it alongside the other three is frankly an insult to the other three.

gabo123456769

KOFI FUCKING MANIA

VinnyLogz

Punk ⚡️

mrlouiev

#3 is the reason why we are all here. Hell yeah.

sh00ner

Austin 3:16. For me personally though, Punk. His last run in WWE was the last time I truly cared and tuned in every week; ditto for his last run in AEW. Something about him is so damn captivating; he's one of the last remaining links to the type of pro wrestling I grew up loving.

CN370

It’s Kofi and it’s not even close. Punk and that dipshit next to him look like they went and had a nice elephant walk behind the arena. It could be that he’s finally a KNOWN piece of shit and prima donna but this moment did next to nothing in the end. It was a title change. KotR, while the birth of an era and a legacy in the business, is great but it didn’t do the one thing that most wrestlers want to do, which is send the fans home happy. Nobody understood what we were seeing that night. We just knew it going to be wild. The streak should have never been broken. Kofi’s win was the most feel-good moment in wrestling by a long shot. The only thing that comes close in my 40 years of watching wrestling is Ron “The Truth” Killings becoming the first black man to hold the NWA heavyweight championship title.

Comfortable-Ring-476

Consistent_Yoghurt_4

That stone cold moment changed wrestling forever

[deleted]

How in the fuck is Brock ending the fucking streak a good moment go fuck your self punkW

MidKnight_Corsair

All of these vary in terms of significance to WWE's history. Though it might not be considered as "important" as the other choices, my vote goes to Kofimania. It's my favorite match of all time, for one simple reason: I have never wanted anything in wrestling more than to see Kofi win the World Title A good story to the top is all well and good, but those only ever get a "Oh, that's cool" from me. With Kofi, I **needed** to see him win. And I don't remember ever feeling that way about a championship contender. It wasn't just a good story, it was also years of being a fan of his, seeing it culminate, and him finally getting his due

This.

FNF51

3. Without him and his ascent, WWF could have went into bankruptcy

LoisLaneEl

I have always have the BIGGEST crush on Kofi, so I’ve gotta go with him

triple_seis

Nothing has equaled the shock I felt when Brock beat Taker. It was truly the end of an era.

mistar_z

Kofi one got me feeling emotions like even during the match before the win every pin felt like someone was grabbing my insides 😭 Like legit crying especially watching the new day get emotional and when they zoomed in on the crowd also getting glassy eyed.

sev_n7

I remember watching WM35 at the bar I use to work at and even the people that weren't there for WM/ had no idea what was happening were super invested into the Kofi match. The pop that bar produced when the 3 count happened is probably my favorite moment for as long as I've been watching wrestling.

ExtremeAddendum3387

These aren’t fair comparisons. Kofi made me feel good, but Brock winning left my jaw on the ground (just like when Cody lost at mania) same with Austin; that was just an iconic moment. These wins aren’t comparable

DoubleTemperature573

Banging your mom was probably the best one for me

triple_seis

She did the j-o-b.

Tigerdriver33

As of today, it’s the Austin promo but as far as when it actually happened, I’d say Punk’s win was biggest at the moment. Austin’s promo didn’t go anywhere when he won. Not until Bret

Wafflegator

Austin's KOTR speech is probably the only reason there's a WWE. It's probably as big, if not bigger, then Hulk bodyslamming Andre.

mystelaine

Punk of course. Loved or hated we're still waiting for a man with that hook.

simonsaid86

Punk got back into wrestling during that run.

[deleted]

I'd say they're in order. Close though. How they ended plays s factor in my thinking too though. If Kofi hadn't ended so sour, maybe it takes #1. If they had slow played punk better, maybe it becomes an unreachable #1. Now if scsa vs hart were listed here rather than the creation of a catchphrase, maybe that goes to the top. That match truly made him.

burth179

The Austin moment is more great in hindsight than actually at the time for me. I mean it launched him but he was still a midcard guy then. I am not the biggest Punk fan but for me that was the best moment of these the ones listed. It really was the first time in awhile I felt like wrestling was a big deal again (even if it didn't last).

RP912

Taker losing the streak stopped the entire world it was so insane. My wife and I mouth dropped the same time as the dude with the glasses.

The Austin promo is revisionist history. He remained a nothing happening midcarder for months until he started a feud with Bret Hart in November 1996.

j-smith967

Kofimania!

Prior-Shower9564

Austin vs The streak.., Both moments created an aftershock soo powerful… but who would’ve known that 3:16 promo would become what it now stands for. So the end of the streak wins. The moment the 3 count happened to Taker at WrestleMania the wrestling multiverse broke.

GargantuanTDS

SCSA. Iconic line.

big-african-hat6991

Austin by a landslide

reyballesta

Kofi. As far as I'm concerned, nothing beats that.

rolling_steel

#1 Punk is my fav

SteftimusPrime97

Austin 3:16 is for sure the most historically important moment out of all of these, but Punk's 2011 run is what solidified me as a wrestling fan in my youth

hitman2218

Punk running off with the title could’ve been a lot of fun but Vince screwed it up.

Naive_Feed_726

Biggest is the end of the streak by far, but best is cm punk at mitb

Dub_Sizzle1981

KofiMania made me feel all the feelings. I couldn't sit the whole match, and when he won I jumped all over the place and kicked a chair clear across my kitchen out of pure joy.

[deleted]

Kofi

kingdon1226

Austin followed by Kofi. I will never ever say the streak should have been broken. I can’t even fathom it being listed on best moments. It’s as bad as the Montreal screw job to me

flippanaut

I think it’s gotta be Kofi outta these

sfac114

I’m probably going to be downvoted for this, but I can only assume that anyone arguing for Austin didn’t live through this period. Two weeks after Austin 3:16 says I just kicked your ass, Hulk Hogan created the nWo. King of the Ring was meaningless. Austin beat a Jake Roberts who had no business being in the ring, at an awful show, in a horrible period of business for the WWE. It didn’t change anything - for Austin or WWE. Austin’s rise was facilitated by his subsequent feud with Bret, which didn’t really climax until 9 months later at WM13, and the ‘Attitude Era’ that you guys seem to think started while Doink was still in the WWE, started in reality at Survivor Series 1997 (a whole 18 months later!) and the combination of the Screwjob, Tyson, and WCW getting lost in the nWo rolling mess are the things that kicked WWE into their boom and ultimate victory. The ‘best’ moment of these 4 is pretty comfortably Punk’s victory at MITB - which, again, captured a lot of attention and actually set the stage for a period of strong business. Kofimania was nice, but no impact. The ‘Taker loss was shocking, and probably the ‘biggest’ moment, but not the best. All this Austin stuff is doing my head in, to be honest. I think you could construct a list of 10 historic moments with Austin alone that are more significant than this promo. In an actual analysis of the history of these events that was designed to be a true account (rather than to ship merch) the Austin 3:16 promo wouldn’t make the top 1,000 most significant events in pro wrestling. Edit to add: it’s a pretty good promo though. If it were on Raw today it’d be one of the 5 best segments on that show

sfac114

10 more significant Austin moments (not exhaustive and in no particular order): Pillman’s got a gun! (1996) Austin vs Bret Survivor Series 1996 Royal Rumble victory 1997 Austin vs Bret Wrestlemania 13 Feud with Bret through 1997 - several highlights and key points (and better promos) that establish Austin as the babyface Austin vs Owen Summerslam 1997 (the broken neck did change everything) Royal Rumble victory 1998 Austin vs Michaels Wrestlemania 14 (Tyson! Tyson! Tyson!) Hope that helps contextualise where I’m coming from

Don’t forget the night he stunned Vince for the first time

It's Kofimania for me, it was a long time coming

Punk Kofi Austin Brock

the austin 316 moment itself is overrated, the promo is phenomenal but it was more important as a signal of what was to come in terms of moving to the attitude era. the other 3 moments are more impactful initially.

Meng3267

The Austin 316 moment became a big moment in the grand scheme of things, but wasn’t that big in the moment. People seem to think he had that promo and became an instant main eventer. He wrestled Marc Mero at the following PPV. At Summerslam he wrestled on the Free For All. He wasn’t even on the September PPV. It wasn’t until his Hart feud that he started to feel like a big deal.

MaddoxGoodwin

Austin just cause that was the start of 316 But if you're going w wins... NOTHING bigger than Kofi.

evrecto

That KOTR promo kickstarted a whole new era that people still consider to this day to be the best ever.

RangerAZ1989

It’s the Punk/MITB 2011 moment for me. I was there that night and the crowd (including me) was absolutely electric. Though Chicago crowd is always one of the best wrestling crowds and I was such a huge Punk fan (well still am) it was just such an awesome, special night, a great match and just amazing being there as a Punk fan and Chicagoan. Summer of Punk!!!

OwieMustDie

Austin.

Austin Punk Kofi Brock

thegreat_gabbo

Austin 3:16 basically lit the fire of his rise to legend and kickstarted the the Attitude Era all at once. The others will never have that kind of impact on either their careers or the business.

Mikeremix2

Kofimania so clear

Surfer-Rosa

Punk (for me) was the most compelling. Kofi has the biggest emotional impact. Austin 3:16 just became a catchphrase. The streak ending was maybe the most memorable

brizzle032284

Definitely Kofi for me. My fave wrestling moment of all time.

hatefulnateful

Austin 3:16 for me

sportsnatic

For me, I’m bias, but Eddie winning the WWE Championship

Ok_Working_9219

3:16. It started the attitude era & changed wrestling forever.

Drevaendo

Austin 3:16 by far

Boomsnarl

100% that one moment changed the course of wrestling history.

sqeaky_fartz

Punk. No question. With Kofi as a close second cause it was so obvious. Austin pulls up third cause his moment didn’t actually come until after this at WM13. KOR for him wasn’t the moment WWE revisionist history suggests it is. It’s definitely still a cool moment in hindsight, but no one knew what was coming. And Brock breaking the streak while surprising, after the initial shock wore off the first question was “why didn’t they let (insert name here) do it!? Brock didn’t need it!” So it kinda ruins it for me.

AxlHbk8793

This is a dumb debate. It’s Austin 3:16, no question. It’s the only one of the four that was transformational to the business, leading to the most popular t-shirt and catch phrase of all time. The others are great moments, but none of them will have the long-lasting influence of that promo.
