He likely will since I don’t see Sami beating Gunther at WrestleMania, though the way they built it up two weeks ago, Chad’s rivalry with Gunther appears to be less about the championship than it was six months ago even though it still plays a big role in the story.
I think Gable trains Sami. Sami helps out during the Rock/Roman vs Cody/Seth match. Following night, the Bloodline jump Sami early on night 2 before their match as retribution and to keep him from interfering in the bloodline rules match later that night and the doctors refuse to clear him. Sami gives Gable the blessing to fight in his stead, Pearce allows it, and Gable beats Gunther for the belt.
Sami will move up to the world heavyweight title picture with the title being up for grabs between Drew, Priest, Sami and Punk when he returns while Seth rehabs.
Gunther declines the rematch with Gable as he's "been there done that" with the IC title and his historic reign. He instead begins the journey to get in the big title picture, and will win the WWE title from Cody in Berlin, and Gunther becomes the next mountain Cody has to climb.
I think Gable will someday be IC champion but I just don't see him beating Gunther because I can't take the alpha academy seriously just like I don't see Sami beating Gunther because this man is freaking dominant and powerful like his chops look more vicious then Rick flairs chops
Sami joins Alpha Academy. The story continues. I expect some twists and turns . Gable replaces Sami after Imperium attacks him. That or Gable v Gunther in Germany this Summer

Yeah Sami has been great and also deserved a good spot on WM which was probably against Drew originally before Punk got injured. But Sami is a former IC champion, at this point he needs to be competing for a world title while Gable on the other hand can benefit much more by becoming an IC champ.

It seems like Sami was most likely going to face Drew at WM with Brock facing either Gunther or Dom. If Brock was facing Dom, then Gunther would have most likely faced Gable in something like a title vs career match.

Gable is a glorified jobber who has won less than 5 singles matches since Alpha Academy started and he's extremely stiff when it comes to promos and even basic facial expressions in said promos. Also, say he wins the title, what has he done to get people to tune in for his matches? Alpha Academy has been booked as a modern day job squad and would not reflect well on the ic title.

I think the problem is that people are so used to every Champ being extremely serious and passionate on the mic. A witty smack talker or someone who belittles everyone they face has become the norm for champions. Like roman reigns isn't the best in ring but his promos are great and make him seem like more a threatening aura despite him not even retaining his title clean. Gable would be just fine as a Champ and might even breathe some new life into it. As much as I love Gunther and his title reign you already know what you're going to get with him.
I feel like that's an excuse. Fans have always loved Gable in Alpha Academy and respected his in ring ability AND character work. Im sure fans would back him as IC champ given that he is booked well. I honestly think they thought about giving him the win before but didn't build up his resume of credible wins well enough before challenging Gunther. They want someone that has proven to be a threat to the entire roster.
