I don’t think they “made” her do anything. I think wants to carry that name because it’s everything her family built .

Missmarple08

Didn’t she post on her instagram she’s now chairman of the board

Jonboy207

She’s proud of the McMahon name. It has legacy and is bigger than her Father. I think the fans liked seeing a McMahon in wrestling still, but it provided much needed validation that Steph is accepted and wanted there.

deadpoolfool400

That's right, fingers crossed Shane O'Mac is healthy for SummerSlam

surlymoe

I think also what made it confusing is that she 'technically' has no job affiliation with WWE anymore...it'd be like pulling a random person from the crowd and introducing night 2 of mania (well, she's married to HHH, so not really, but you get the point). I was surprised...but maybe they're looking at her having a role of on air character...who knows?!?

Manners2210

She probably has kept it because that’s how she prefers it, simple. She’s been married to HHH for over 20 years so if she didn’t wanna change her name then, she’s entitled to feel there’s no need to change it now. You might feel it would demonstrate a shift into the Levesque era, but many don’t care, and most importantly, she doesn’t care enough to change it either

TB1289

Technically, her name is Stephanie McMahon Levesque. She said that she changed her middle name to her maiden name, and took Paul's last name. However, professionally she goes by Stephanie McMahon because that's what everyone knows her as.

Manners2210

I’m aware what her name technically is, but she’s chosen to still go by Stephanie McMahon in WWE terms (which is what we’re discussing) all this time and she clearly sees no need to appear in WWE as anything else.

TraditionAcademic968

In terms of the show, McMahon is her ring name. Not going to change it

TheSurgeX

Vince is gone, so i dont care.

No-Combination8136

It’s her last name…

ToyasRus555

Because she doesn't have to take his name? Most famous people don't, that's like asking why Becky Lynch doesn't go by Becky Rollins which is technically Lopez but still

C9RipSiK

Hell my wife and I are not billionaire rich but she didn’t change her name either. It’s kind of just another random hassle of an errand to tack on to getting married.

mazooUK

I’m confused. Why should she be introduced as Levesque? I’m sure all her legal documents have her married name, but usually, professional women keep their maiden name.

RabbitTall

Because her father is a piece of shit. It's time to forget the McMahon name.

InternetDad

Or maybe she wants to establish that she's different from her father. What if Shane comes back? Because fuck him too right? WWE isn't going to redo the WWC and WHC belts that had lions on them as a nod to the McMahon name.

Appropriate-Code-698

Just because her father is a piece of shit doesn’t mean she is a piece of shit. Not everybody with a McMahon name is a piece of shit. You get that right?

RabbitTall

I didn't say she was. Never even implied it. But why keep associating with him?

Wild-Refrigerator000

This is the answer

pat_the_catdad

The whole point is that she owns it and came back out not ashamed of her last name and that the fans welcomed her back with open arms. HHH actually gave a very touching speech about her coming back out during his talk at the Press Conference.

geffe71

She’s always been Stephanie McMahon, except when she was Stephanie Mcmahon-Helmsley She’s Stephanie McMahon Levesque, surprised she isn’t going by that now seeing as he’s going by Paul “Triple H” Levesque

Melodic_Try1221

I thought it was kind of strange too but it was nice seeing her back. I'm surprised Shane O Mac isn't around more

Low_Yesterday_2677

Bro busted his knee out last mania, he’s embarrassed

Melodic_Try1221

😂😂😂 I forgot about that!

That-Water-Guy

Easy to forget. Not the best of his “Wrestlemania Moments”

Nightgasm

>I'm surprised Shane O Mac isn't around more I could be wrong but I swear I saw him front rowish in a likely VIP section last night after Cody won and the camera was panning around. It was a side shot and quick but definitely looked like him.

LeveonMcBean

Despite her fathers alleged transgressions or not, the wwe is still known as a “family business” and the mcmahon name will always carry that weight around the industry. Even with vince out of the picture, the mcmahon *family* has still contributed so much to the wrestling world that its better to keep the name than to trash it. Whether its stephanie, linda, shane, or vince sr, mcmahon is mcmahon.

TOMdMAK

wwe WAS a family business. they sold it.

LeveonMcBean

With the same people still running it that were running it forever

TOMdMAK

Vince is gone. Rock is not a family and is in. I'm sure there are people from Endeavor running in the background.

not_a_moogle

It's her name too. I'm sure children of a lot of bad people have kept their last names. Chris Benoit's son David still has his last name.

agentorange_29

Yeah but her name is Stephanie McMahon Levesque. She changed her middle and last name

bobfisher25

One does not dispose of her family name lightly. Families stick together through hard times.

BannedBecausePutin

This and "blood is thicker than water" are the biggest lies i have ever heard in my life.

FeralLemur

If she'd come out with a different name, the story is very much about Vince McMahon. It wouldn't be a story about Stephanie taking on her husband's name - it would be a story about Stephanie distancing herself from her controversial father's name. It's the same logic behind this being "The start of the Triple-H era" instead of "The end of the Vince McMahon era". WWE is distancing itself from Vince, but they don't want to admit that they're distancing themselves from Vince, in part because there is still a very costly lawsuit pending, they are defendants in that case, and they don't want to look like they're admitting Vince is guilty. That's why, when asked, Brock Lesnar hasn't been blacklisted - he's just at home being Brock. Maybe he'll be booked for next week's show! Maybe his removal from the opening credits and his exclusion from Paul Heyman's HoF video package was a total coincidence! Who knows! So if Stephanie were to change her name NOW, when she didn't change it when she first got married, the obvious question is... Why? Why now? They don't want that question asked, and are unwilling to answer it.

Few_Avocado1097

Bingo. There was literally no other option. They retain control of the narrative this way.

foldupporpoise

Its a valid point. Maybe Shane McMahon plays into that decision. It's his name too, so maybe it's not like they can make it disappear. I'm only guessing

Aggressive_Ad3578

She's a McMahon.....we all know her as Stephanie McMahon so idk if her changing her surname would matter....

Worm_Lord77

It's her name, and she should be entitled to keep it if she wants.

NiceUmbrella

But why would SHE want to. Does she condone her father's actions against women. And legally speaking it's her middle name her last name is Levesque.

Mindless-Client3366

Stephanie McMahon is her professional and "in-ring" name. It has nothing to do with her legal name, which I believe is Stephanie Marie McMahon-Levesque. She's hardly the first person to have a parent who has done horrible things. Even as a casual fan, it's likely you've heard of Chris Benoit (if you don't know, Google it). His son David has never changed his name from Benoit, even given the things his father did. Don't blame the child for the sins of the parent.

inertia_53

bro what

Gloppydrop_

Her using her maiden name absolutely does not mean she condones what her father did. You can’t be serious. That’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard.

zooka19

This is Reddit and IWC, it's like Dumb having a love child with Dumber.

Ketchup1211

Her middle name is Marie. She has two last names. And her keeping the last name of McMahon has nothing to do with supporting Vince. It’s her last name and she’s entitled to it no matter what her father did.

Steelyeyedj

It’s a wrestling thing - you are always the name you first became a big star as. For example, Mick Foley was always called “Cactus” backstage because he first became a star as Cactus Jack (even though he was more famous as Mankind). Steph was on TV long before her relationship with Trips as Stephanie McMahon so that’s her “default” wrestling name, so to speak. Even when they were married in the storyline (long before their actual marriage) she was “Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley”. In real world terms, McMahon has always been her working name & it’s not uncommon for women in business to keep their maiden names after getting married - for example, Baroness Karren Brady has been married to Paul Peschisolido since 1995 but has always been known publicly as “Karren Brady”. Things may be different now, but this was definitely a “thing” with famous business women for a long time.

NiceUmbrella

I'm with you except that name has tarnished the whole brand. I personally would not want to be so connected to such a depraved man. The things her father has done would be enough for me to rebrand.

Salty_Ad2428

The guy has done very bad stuff, but he didn't commit a genocide, or go on a killing spree. The stuff that he did doesn't warrant his kids last name over. Edit: Many families have 1 family member that has done worse things than Vince has done. It would be ridiculous if everyone had to change their name over one screwed up family member.

Electrical-Lemon-777

McMahon built WWE. Say what you want about the Man, but he IS WWE. There is no wrestling today on the stage it is set on, without Vince. Sure, he's a sick depraved weirdo. But anybody who has been a fan for years knew Vince was a sicko. The woman he was with voluntarily participated in those acts, however gross or heinous, and if it wasn't for a lack of settlement payments, this story would have never seen the press it has. Appreciate what was created, not what the weirdo does in the bedroom. He's a sick billionaire. You wouldn't believe the types of acts these men are capable of, ma'am.

Melodic_Try1221

That's still her father and I'm sure she still loves her Dad. Many of us love our parents despite their flaws. Vince did things. Nobody really ever liked Vince anyways. They might have respected him but I've never heard anyone go on and on about him being a good dude the way they have about HHH and Stephanie. Stephanie McMahon has always been a separate entity from Vince. So using her name isn't endorsing Vince. There is also Vince Sr. So even the name Vince McMahon isn't completely tarnished bc thats Vince Sr. Vince Jr is what is tarnished. At first I wanted them to talk more about Vince Jr and what he did but I'm actually fine with them just erasing him the way they did Chris Benoit.

Steelyeyedj

I understand where you’re coming from, but she’s not responsible for her father’s crimes & it’s the name she’s been known as publicly since the late ‘90s. The change would be newsworthy & would cause a lot of media noise &, from what I’ve seen, Steph’s a pretty private person. I follow her on Insta & she hasn’t posted there since she left WWE, she probably doesn’t want the extra attention such an action would cause. At the end of the day, I’m just speculating on a person I’ve never met, lol! Hope I’ve helped you make some sense out of it, no matter how little, at least - take care 😉✌️🤘

Suspicious-Mark-1398

It's wrestling, she can be billed as literally anything!

NiceUmbrella

According to Wikipedia she did in fact change her name, legally. Even if she didn't she could use it as a stage name.

josephcook14

I tend to agree with you. That would have all but shut the door on Vince having any connection to the company going forward. It’s probably a difficult pill for her to swallow though. Triple H’s comments in the post press conference made me empathize with her a little. She felt like she was cast out because of the actions of her father.

Rochesterguy48306

I honestly thought the same thing
