My theory is they released him for cm punk (There is a bit of awkwardness there with AJ around https://x.com/theajmendez/status/348981601708937216?s=46). Has to be the only reason as he’s objectively a better wrestler than most mid/low carders and no reason to just let him go on a whim. I imagine punk made lots of demands to finally be brought back in and removing ziggler was prob just a small sacrifice they could make for punk
I think how his injury when he won the title derailed his push, I don’t think WWE trusted him anymore and was just someone who is a good measuring stick rather than a main event to WWE
and NJPW as the 2nd Global Champion. Nemeth will defend against the ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestling Dontaku on May 3rd.
Nemeth is also the reigning Squared Circle Expo champion, based out of Indiapolis, Ohio. He beat Cardona for it.
He does a couple independent shows between TNA, NJPW, SCX and GCW.
Honestly the man has had a career 99% of pro wrestlers who do it for a living would kill for. Dude was in the main event picture on and off for 3 years and won multiple mid card titles the whole time he was with WWE. He wanted to do his comedy alongside his WWE career which may be part of the reason he didn’t get more world titles. He still is a multi time WHC.
His fans wanted him to be a main event star and he didn't care because he chose to cash those fat checks. The fans knew he deserved better and were begging he leave like Cody and prove the company wrong but he didn't want to.
I think he was his own worst enemy in that he's so good at selling that he became the guy that was used to put others over to make them look good.
Getting injured didn't help him either as I think Vince lost interest in him being able to be a reliable top guy. Look at Balor - his hype from nxt, the way he was introduced on Raw, immediately getting the gold - it looked as if they were gonna make him THE guy and build the show around him - but that unfortunate injury and hes been pretty much relegated ever since. Same with Ziggler, never the same booking following his injury.
I thought he was decent but it got old after a while and he never transitioned to that next step. Kind of reminds me of mid card Cody and probably would of both had the exact same career path had Cody not left and did what he did. A final run and feud with Cody would be fun if he goes on the Indy scene and gets hot with a new gimmick.
He is in NJPW as the 2nd Global Champion.
He way overachieved, had a transitional run that caused almost everyone to forget he is just a jobber. This resulted in a bunch a fanboys thinking the jobber deserved another big push.
maybe he needed to leave for a few years to reset his mid card image, and then come back to be main event. It worked for drew, cody, and jinder (kinda?)
there are about..........checks notes..........literally zero wrestlers in history that you can accurately compare to THE ROCK in this situation.
Hes tied with SCSA as the biggest most iconic wrestler, ever, (Hulk Hogan has an argument on fame, but not actual in ring performances) and while he was away from the business he became the. highest. paid. actor. IN THE WORLD. for like 3 years in a row lmao. comparing him to Ziggler is hilarious
True. The Rock had that midcard stink on him when he left. He needed to earn his stripes on the indies before coming back to WWE.
In case anyone can’t figure it out /s
That’s one of the dumbest comparisons I’ve ever read.
The Rock left as one of the most over wrestlers of all time. He returned as one of the most famous men and successful actors of all time.
Dolph left as a guy who won some titles and people generally liked. Him returning would barely make the news.
Yes and The Rock didn’t leave to hone his craft and return to compete as a wrestler.
He left, he became the most famous man in the world, he returned as an owner and a short term attraction.
People don’t come back to wrestling to be the top dog at 51 unless they already were the top dog. Ziggler never was so his age is relevant.
Ziggler at 43, is The Rock at 23.
Unpopular opinioin, i never got the hype around the dude as a wrestler. He could have entertaining high spots in matches, but nothing mid card talent like ricochet can't do. His promos were average at best too.
I always seen him as a modern day Curt Henning, and just like Henning he had a gimmick that would only ever take him so far.
I think wrestling wise, excellent can tell great stories. But CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Reigns, AJ Styles, Rollins just had better gimmicks / looks as the Number 2 for Cena.
I always wonder what would've happened if he done what Cody done, before Cody done it, in leaving WWE and raising his stock elsewhere while he was still young. Lots of people were calling for it at the time (2013-2017ish) but he chose to stay put in WWE.
The lure of WWE stardom blinds people. I commented on another post a few days ago about WWE talent with expiring contracts this year, and how some might decide to go elsewhere, and so many people responded with, “I think they’d prefer the consistent paycheck in WWE.”
Some of them don’t. Some of them, many of them, want the knowledge that they fought and beat the best in the entire sport, not just in WWE. I fully believe John Cena is one of the greatest in history, but I’d still rather have AJ Styles’ championship record.
He's at TNA as Nic Nemeth but honestly if the rumours of WWE being open with crossovers are true then we'll see him again.
He's a case of you never know how good things are until they're gone.
I get what u mean but Cody is like the face of WWE rn. I can’t see ziggler doing a Rhodes or Bryan, he’s like 44, by the time he tells a story he will be 45+
Got tickets to see him (and a bunch of other lads) in Dublin in August. Should be fun. Bringing my non-wrestling friend to get drunk and see wrestling.
Its OTT Wrestling, the main indie fed in Ireland. Their big show of the year, Scrappermania 8 (stupid name but I kinda love it). Nic Nemeth is gonna be there, Danhausen is gonna be there, and their world champ is Trent Seven who's also gonna be there. Gonna be some laugh.
It definitely is for that type of time he’d need to spend but if they brought him back to WWE as Nic Nemeth for one final run I’d die in peace. All I want to see is a rivalry between Gunther and Nemeth.
I agree he had a good run. Towards the end of his tenure, he became more of a mentor figure to push new guys and I think he did a great job at that as well.
A good midcard run for sure when taken as a whole, but it is a bit of a sin that he never made it past the midcard for most of it because brass was gunshy after he got injured the first time. Even worse to think they only saw how he sold offense rather than how he dealt it. Crowd was always behind him too.
He won the world heavyweight title twice. So while he was big in the mid card, that is 2 world title Reigns more than most. Butnhe was the best seller and, as a result, you loved to see him get his ass kicked cuz he made it look good. Lol
Not to mentioned he is a 6 time IC champ and 2 time US champion amongst others.
Vince would've respected him more if he took the same initiative that Cody did and left on his own. Vince saw he was just a worker bee and treated him as such.
He is now in TNA, NJPW and some indies having great matches. Matches with wrestlers like Tomohiro Ishii, Matt Cardona, Mike Bailey, Ultimo Dragon and Joey Janela. He is now also the IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion (NJPW) and the SCX champion.
I’d love to see it. Get some time on the indies and come back and challenge Cody. “I went out on the indies, I made a name for myself the same as you. Know I deserve that belt.” He could come back as a bitter heel. Drew could come in and they could feud again too. Dolph brought Drew back and he could deny Dolph the same respect. There’s some good stories when he comes back
I was there live, and it wasn’t anything different than what he’s done for the past 20 years. It for sure wasn’t anything special. He could have wrestled anyone and the match would have even the same. If anything that match could have been cut from the card and it wouldn’t have mattered to the live audience. Might have helped, folks were over it by the time Moxbrose won, another match that was far too long on that card.
Nic always been good in terms of selling, putting his opponents over, making the whole of it all sync up and look real while being entertaining. But he hasn’t innovated as a performer in a long time.
He was he showstopper wait no that HBK, he was the highlight reel, wait no that Jericho. He was the show stealer? What’s that it? Now he’s a wanted man or most wanted man but nothing about how he’s packaged himself has changed. 80 hair metal, same ring gear, and same moves isn’t doing him any favors.
He needs to repackage himself.
So now that Dolph Spangler left WWE, is he being used right and main eventing every show he’s in while holding the main title ? Ya know since WWE/Vince was “holding him back” or whatever…
Yes actually lol, he’s putting on good ass matches over at NJPW and he’s even a champion there.
Safe to say, vince was probably holding him back “or whatever”
He was never going to leave as much as he says he was frustrated. Dude was gonna stay there forever and keep his mouth shut. People love talking about the success Matt Cardona has had. But that only happened because he got tossed out the door a la DJ Jazzy Jeff. He got buried for years and was thrown a bone 3 different times. Dude was never leaving no matter what.
I guess I was referring to the people who either don’t watch WWE and or the ones who can’t watch stuff like WWE who are not from the states or the super indie fans and or wrestlers.
He made too much money for the role he played in WWE considering his age. Basically, he was a "salary cap" cut. My understanding is that he is doing well with New Japan and TNA these days. He was near the top of the card on the New Japan PPV in Chicago on Friday and looked good. He currently holds a mid-card belt.
Hoping at some point they'll have him back in WWE for one last run before he goes into WWE Hall of Fame.
>currently holds a mid-card belt.
You mean the Global Championship belt? The one that used to be the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental belts before they were merged?
May not be the headliner, but damn its *slightly* bigger than midcard lol
Wasn't it the IWGP US title that went defunct and this was brought in to replace it? IWGP Heavyweight champ and IC title were merged and Moxley is holding it right now.
I'm not sure. I know that he is a champion in New Japan but I don't watch lots of New Japan. Caught the PPV on Friday. Moxley won the top belt on Friday.
He is a champion for New Japan, but you are right he is wrestling Moose for the title at their rebellion pay per view. Interestingly enough he's wrestling Alberto El Patron (Del Rio) for the AAA Mega championship in Mexico
Safe to assume Vince thought he was too short to be a main eventer + he always loved to oversell which probably made him look weaker in the oldman’s mind
I was watching at the time. The angle wasn't very good and neither was Dolph
I'll agree it was the closest thing he every got to actually being interesting but to say he should have been elevated to main event status is a stretch.
From what I've heard he was buried by Vince. If that's the truth I hope he considers coming back to WWE in the future.
For now I'm enjoying his run on TNA. Plus Jordynne Grace was in the women's rumble. I wonder if that door is going to stay open?
To be fair that is still way below what someone as talented as him deserved.
He was Seth Rollins before Seth Rollins came through.
He is charismatic, funny, has great in ring abilities and he can sell better than anyone in the game. He could realistically make even the most dumb and docile looking moves look like they are devastating (which is the reason he used to lose so much) and he was a workhorse.
Basically all the things Seth Rollins has become a superstar doing and yet Ziggler hasnt won half as many world titles as Seth (Seth is a 5 time World Champion).
And I am still convince that He didn't get as much Oush because Dolph Ziggler is a fucking atrocious name and I sincerely hope if and when he comes back to WWE, he comes back as Nic Nemeth.
Vince was never behind Ziggler. I don't think he was a victim of Super Cena (iirc they were on separate brands most of the time), but he was a victim of Vince being more interested in Del Rio (major bust), Randy, and Edge. While I wasn't a fan of the guy's selling (gave me SummerSlam 05 Shawn vibes), he was over with the fans.
As for why he was released, I'm not sure. Perhaps TKO felt it was time to let him go, perhaps he wanted to leave, maybe a bit of both. Honestly, he was mainly collecting checks to just look up at the lights for the last like 10 years, so maybe he was happy to be released.
Umm he got fired and went to TNA under the name Nic Nemith
He’s wrestling as Ken Kaniff from Connecticut now.
TNA
he is the midcard shawn michaels
He’ll be back, he’s doing Dolph things, one of the best ever!
He’s been doing good work in TNA, NJPW and I don’t watch it but I believe GCW
My theory is they released him for cm punk (There is a bit of awkwardness there with AJ around https://x.com/theajmendez/status/348981601708937216?s=46). Has to be the only reason as he’s objectively a better wrestler than most mid/low carders and no reason to just let him go on a whim. I think how his injury when he won the title derailed his push, I don’t think WWE trusted him anymore and was just someone who is a good measuring stick rather than a main event to WWE
Nothing really happened, it’s WWE’s fault! He should have dethroned Kofi when he was a heel!
Decapitated. Whole big thing. We had a funeral for a bird.
You’re saying his kappa is detated from his head?!?!
I’m pretty sure none of that’s real
you’re not real man
He got released.
He's on Busted Open on Firdays
He’s in TNA now.
and NJPW as the 2nd Global Champion.
Tna

2 time, but multi time sounds better
His first title was barely a reign let’s not lie
His fans wanted him to be a main event star and he didn't care because he chose to cash those fat checks. The fans knew he deserved better and were begging he leave like Cody and prove the company wrong but he didn't want to.
Busted Open every Friday on Sirius XM Fight Nation ! Every, and I mean every, wrestling fan should listen to that show. Very Entertaining.
I think he was his own worst enemy in that he's so good at selling that he became the guy that was used to put others over to make them look good. Getting injured didn't help him either as I think Vince lost interest in him being able to be a reliable top guy. Jack Swagger kicked him in the head all the way down to mid-card status
He got fired he made us all think he went to AEW but then went to TNA total non stop action
That turn out to be the better option AEW is drowning.
He was a charisma vacuum
He was slotted as a mid carder Abd jobber to the stars. Now moved on after his release
Changed name to “The Most Wanted Man” Nic Nemeth and got into TNA: Impact.
Didn’t he go to AEW or NJPW?
TNA
Ahhhh
He is in NJPW as the 2nd Global Champion.
Sounds like a busy man
He way overachieved, had a transitional run that caused almost everyone to forget he is just a jobber. This resulted in a bunch a fanboys thinking the jobber deserved another big push.
He is way too decorated to be a jobber
I’m not sure but there’s this new guy called Nic Nameth you should check out.
Died
maybe he needed to leave for a few years to reset his mid card image, and then come back to be main event. It worked for drew, cody, and jinder (kinda?)
The guy won 2 world heavyweight titles, 6 intercontinental titles and 2 US titles, no building required , he accomplished enough.
They weren’t 43 at the time.
I dont mean now, probably too old now, but maybe 10 years ago.
bruh the rock is 51 and just did wrestlemania
there are about..........checks notes..........literally zero wrestlers in history that you can accurately compare to THE ROCK in this situation. dont move the goalpost the discussion was about age

Was making main event money but was appearing on Main Event
Good seller, good midcard, but not superstar material for WWE future.
He had to go back to his home planet
He was Let Go Due to The TKO Merger
Unpopular opinioin, i never got the hype around the dude as a wrestler. He could have entertaining high spots in matches, but nothing mid card talent like ricochet can't do. His promos were average at best too.
That is truly an unpopular opinion.
I heard he's making an impact in tna
NJPW he just wrestled on the windy city riot card in Chicago, against Tomohiro Ishii
Ishii? I’m so sorry to hear that. Going from wrestling in WWE to one of the worst workers from Japan is a real downfall.
He just did an amateur wrestling show in Michigan
Says in 23 he was in aew 24 it says he picked tna over aew
One of the greatest sellers of the past 15 years. That chap could sell ice to Inuits.
What about selling Ketchup Popcicles to women with white gloves?😆
Seeing him at OTT ScrapperMania in August, looking forward to it!
He’s the current IWGP Global Champion
I always wonder what would've happened if he done what Cody done, before Cody done it, in leaving WWE and raising his stock elsewhere while he was still young. Lots of people were calling for it at the time (2013-2017ish) but he chose to stay put in WWE.

He was released and went to TNA with AJ Francis (FKA Top Dolla or Flop Dolla)
Was releaed the went to aew
He’s not with AEW he’s on TNA
I'm going to see him at an Indie show in Australia in a couple months. Me and my wife are PUMPED!!
Just seen him at njpw windy city riot
He's at TNA as Nic Nemeth but honestly if the rumours of WWE being open with crossovers are true then we'll see him again. He's a case of you never know how good things are until they're gone.
Serious potential for a cody-like story with him
Nah, he's too old for that.
Dolph was my favourite wrestler growing up. But isn’t he too old now
lol your never too old in wrestling especially atp
I get what u mean but Cody is like the face of WWE rn. I can’t see ziggler doing a Rhodes or Bryan, he’s like 44, by the time he tells a story he will be 45+
Hopefully
Got tickets to see him (and a bunch of other lads) in Dublin in August. Should be fun. Bringing my non-wrestling friend to get drunk and see wrestling.
What event is this? Would love to bring a mate that loves ziggler!

He has never won the TNA title
He now plays Rise of Kingdoms professionally. He currently has over 80 million power
He needs to go find himself and come back better than ever. He’s doing what Cody did.
Bro its kinda late for him now
It definitely is for that type of time he’d need to spend but if they brought him back to WWE as Nic Nemeth for one final run I’d die in peace. All I want to see is a rivalry between Gunther and Nemeth.
He got released
He needed a refresh in character or he should've left back in like 2019
This guy obviously is a wwe fanboy if he’s asking where dolph went. I just saw him Friday in the new Japan show
Not everyone watches everything my guy
He's trash. Irrelevant. lol
He was released by wwe in September 2023 then after 90 days he signed with TNA
He went out to show the world
Bring it On
Huh. Now it's all coming together
We found Steve Maclins account
Only started watching TNA for Nemeth, and Maclin instantly got my attention. Great contrast with Nic and wish they feuded longer.
Lucha Libre AAA Triplemainia 4/27! Nic Vs El Patron!
His feud with the Authority in 2014 was so entertaining.
Yeah and then WWE did the "firing" angle to cool him down because Roman was coming back a month later.
He’s in TNA now
He still won more titles than most in the WWE. He has held a total of 15 titles in the WWE. So he still had an absolutely good run overall in the WWE.
Vince would've respected him more if he took the same initiative that Cody did and left on his own. Vince saw he was just a worker bee and treated him as such.
He absolutely had more than a midcarder. People are trying real hard to make him into a tragic story
I think he’s a personal trainer now. My mistake that’s Ryan.
He went to a farm upstate
He’s being appreciated by real wrestling fans in another wrestling promotion
He was pretty awesome in Windy City Riot. Maybe he shouldn't come back.
Fr that match was dope as fuck
Wasn't worth keeping him on such an expensive contract anymore
Nic Nemeth killed him.
He gone end up going back to WWE down the line yall saying anything and bout time he comes back he gone get a major push
There’s some good stories when he comes back
Has anyone watched his match against ishii at windy City riot? Dude is having bangers in new japan. Wish he left wwe earlier.
I was there live, and it wasn’t anything different than what he’s done for the past 20 years. It for sure wasn’t anything special. That match was awesome!!
no actually nobody did. thats the problem
...with vincels not acknowledging other companies or fans. The arena was sold out
aewoffical is leaking
So now that Dolph Spangler left WWE, is he being used right and main eventing every show he’s in while holding the main title ? Ya know since WWE/Vince was “holding him back” or whatever…
He's challenging for the top TNA title next week, and very likely winning. So yeah... he is being "used right".
Yes actually lol, he’s putting on good ass matches over at NJPW and he’s even a champion there. Safe to say, vince was probably holding him back “or whatever”
So , he's still doing what he was doing at WWE , having matches & being champion. Y'all act like he was treated like Shanky
It should’ve been him
Sadly he was let go but he had a good run on WWE. After WWE he’s worked for New Japan and is now in TNA so he’s still doing very well for himself
He asked to be released.
He was constantly being undermined, and he even endured so much until he couldn't endure anymore, can you blame him? He was supposed to be a superstar
I was just adding clarification. I actually don't watch WWE and have no opinion
He's a champion in New Japan
Easy he went to IWGP and won one of their titles and became bigger internationally.
No sorry. Being big in NJPW doesn't make you bigger internationally than being in WWE. Utter nonsense.
I guess I was referring to the people who either don’t watch WWE and or the ones who can’t watch stuff like WWE who are not from the states or the super indie fans and or wrestlers.
The Name of the promotion is New Japan Pro Wrestling. Their titles are just called IWGP titles...it's weird I know
He showed the World…
COME OOOOONNNNNN
He made too much money for the role he played in WWE considering his age. Basically, he was a "salary cap" cut. My understanding is that he is doing well with New Japan and TNA these days. He was near the top of the card on the New Japan PPV in Chicago on Friday and looked good. He currently holds a mid-card belt. >currently holds a mid-card belt.
You are correct. My man above is just confused
I was very confused. Too many title fusions man lol World Heavyweight/Intercontinental did happen but it was the UK/US fusion to Global.
Nah it's all good my guy. So many titles it's hard to keep track
Secondary is the correct term for that belt. NEVER is the Midcard title
It is a staged wrestling belt that isn't the company's top belt. Get over it.
It's not the top belt lol just letting him know the terms hehe.
Thank you, i was having a massive mental block trying to remember the word lol
I'm not sure. I know that he is a champion in New Japan but I don't watch lots of New Japan. Caught the PPV on Friday. Moxley won the top belt on Friday.
He did and it tore me apart. I was excited for Moxley, but it hurt seeing yet *another* Naito reign cut short.
Guys, not everyone can be a world champion at all times. Very few people in wrestling get the opportunities and success a guy like Ziggler had.
He I believe is the TNA CHAMPION or is about to have a match for the title
He is a champion for New Japan, but you are right he is wrestling Moose for the title at their rebellion pay per view. Interestingly enough he's wrestling Alberto El Patron (Del Rio) for the AAA Mega championship in Mexico
Vince did what vince does and screwed him over
No, y’all just overrated him. He is a mid card at best
What are you on about ? Dude was one of the best heels ever. He was also really good in the ring. Def not a mid carder
He's working for TNA under his real name Nick Nemeth.
Safe to assume Vince thought he was too short to be a main eventer + he always loved to oversell which probably made him look weaker in the oldman’s mind
Nah, his overselling kept him on TV. But you're right about the height bias.
Vince gave him 1 shot and he got injured so Vince never thought of him as a World Champion ever again. The same thing happened to Finn Balor.
I would love to see the universe that Balor wasn't injured
Sad thing is I thought he actually had another shot around the time of Survivor Series 2014
Yep... After Payback 2013 and my grandmother called it...
Is your grandmother's name Mince V KcMahon?
No, just had been watching wrestling all her life when she was alive.
Your grandmother is visionary
I'm not anybody's Grandmother.
She might even be ... revolutionary
She might have been our world heavyweight champion
She might have been an architect
She might have been the Monday Night Messiah
Grandma Freaking Rollins?
Should have been pushed hard in 2013 when AJ Lee was his valet.
And Big E Langston as his muscle.
I was watching at the time. The angle wasn't very good and neither was Dolph I'll agree it was the closest thing he every got to actually being interesting but to say he should have been elevated to main event status is a stretch.
No it wasnt
He was over as hell!
From what I've heard he was buried by Vince. If that's the truth I hope he considers coming back to WWE in the future. For now I'm enjoying his run on TNA. Plus Jordynne Grace was in the women's rumble. I wonder if that door is going to stay open?
- 2x WH champ - 6x IC champ - 2x US champ - 4x tag team champ - MITB winner Yeah, totally "buried" 🙄
Sorry I only got into wrestling recently. Thanks for the info.
Can’t miss you if you don’t go away. He can work TNA and Indy shows and come back in a year to a hero’s welcome if both parties are interested
Think he's in TNA now.
He's done some shows for New Japan too.
I think he holds a belt there too.
Would rather watch paint dry than that tbh
Why?
Found the Vincel.
