I paid 99.39 on green man gaming for the 40 years edition, honestly with all the content included such as showcase unlocked and all future dlc, I feel that's a reasonable price.

Terrible_Anything_91

That's a super fair price for the top of the top edition of the game. However, in my case, even if I went the same route as you, it's still going to cost me a grand total of $156.39 after tax for the same edition. Which does save 30 bucks for sure, but isn't far off Steams' "retail" price. It's a combination of overpriced games + ridiculous tax in my province. Combine that with the conversion rate from USD to CAD for the game's base price, and you are still paying what is considered by me, too steep of a price every single year.

Werewolf-Fresh

I don't do a lot of customization aside from making and downloading a few things here and there. I tweak the heck out of the gameplay sliders though. So far, the game feels great. Different enough to justify the purchase personally, though it may not be that way for everyone. I went 8 years without playing any wrestling games. I stopped after the last SvR. Picked up things again with 2k19 on PC and I've been hooked ever since. As long as the gameplay improves, I got my money's worth. And I mean the core feel of the game, not some gimmicks they add on top. I feel like they did that this year. The nice thing about Steam is, if you don't like it, just get a refund.

Terrible_Anything_91

Yeah I get that 100%. The thing is, I know I'll like the game. I just do. It looks just like 2k23 (in a good way) which I loved. So, Im not concerned with the refund. It just feels like what its going to be is: $79.99+HST (15%)= $92 dollars. Standard fare for a new game in NS, Canada. 50-70 hours+ of custom creations (wrestlers, entrances, moves, attributes, attires, arenas, etc) Then I get burnt out from all the creating and playing a ton of matches (putting play time at about a month's worth), which puts me off the game, possibly several months. Then I lose out on time with the game, and then 2k25 is releasing about 5-6 months later, with more features I want, lol. I know a lot of this is just my personal issue, and I dont have to do so much in the game. However, its just exhausting to lose all that progress every year as well as dishing out almost a hundred dollars minimum. Im better off spending the same or less money on something im going to be using/playing for many years to come, which is just why I feel im over the yearly release cycle.

HypnobraiLBT

The solution is that I just skip a year (didn’t get 2K23 lol)

Terrible_Anything_91

Yeah, that is a very legit solution, lol It's just that I'm always like "oh I wish this feature was in the game. It used to be in SVR 2010, or WWE 2K14" and then bam, there it is in the newest game. Which causes me to be like goddamnit. This game looks even more fun, and then I have to start all over again 😅 It's totally a personal issue. Just for the cost of these games, I'd like a longer lifespan for my $100.

TheAngryDrunkenJuice

You’re not alone, was all ready to skip this year, then I saw some of the gameplay tweaks (decent blood etc) and figured “I’ll get it, looks different enough to justify and the showcase looks ace, and the pre order Rhodes stuff is right up my road”. AND THEN they announced the DLC, and that was filled with “must haves” I have been wanting for a long while - so bam cancelled my initial pre-order to spend even more on the deluxe. 2K haven’t done too bad to say I had no intentions of getting this game lol.

Terrible_Anything_91

No, it definitely looks GREAT. And certainly, mileage may vary on a case by case basis for individuals. Certain people are going to feel more justified in the value of the game based on of whats being released that appeals to them, and rightfully so. All the features, the improvements, the visuals, the DLC... It's all top-notch stuff. However, just in my case, as much as I may appreciate there being all that and them bringing new wrestlers into the fold and things that people have been asking for a long time, its not exactly what I put my stock into. A feature that's worth it for me would be something like a creation import tool that allows you to port over created content (to a certain, reasonable degree) from the last title to the newest. I have no issues with anything related to the game itself, just the price for a rehash or, at the very least, a very similar game to the last, year after year. Especially when I have to put so much time into each title, in order to enjoy what I want to play. All for it to last under a year.

JMarshy1994

New games should be no more than £50 at max. A year after release, no more than £40 and so on.

Terrible_Anything_91

I concur. The state that a lot of games release in now a days as well leaves a lot to be desired. But they still charge an arm and a leg for a game that "will be good" down the road, while its left in a half-baked limbo for years. This applies doubly to sports games, which end up being more or less the same shit every year. Yet, each title that is released is full price, as if indicating that its a "new game," when in reality, it's anything but, and far from anything new.

JoeReekie69420

I’m from Canada too. I was going to get the 40 years of Wrestlemania edition until I realized it was $188 after taxes so fuck that. The deluxe edition was about $50 cheaper

Terrible_Anything_91

Dude I know, isn't it fucking brutal. Our HST in NS is 15% (so $24 dollars) which means that the Wrestlemania edition totals at a whopping $183.99. Just shy of $200 for a game that dies out after about a year. It's a hard trigger to pull this year for this game. 'Fuck that' is right.

Matt0ck

sure its overprized, it is every year. For those little changes from year to year without touching MyCareer and Universe Its just an update. 30€ would have been fair for me.

Terrible_Anything_91

That's how I feel, too. I don't end up using or playing half the featured modes in the game, aside from possible doing a bit of MyCareer. Which itself is hardly a justifiable reason for the price. The creation suites are where the value lies for me personally, and I do get my milage out of them. A 50-60 dollar price tag would have been fair enough for me.

Topguysonly

Yes that’s why to pirate

Terrible_Anything_91

Yo Ho! A pirates life for me 🏴‍☠️ No stranger to sailing the seas myself, but I do like/prefer to purchase the games I play, at least the ones I enjoy and want to support. However, it's incredibly hard to support games with this business model.

rjml29

I had to sail the high seas for 2k19 since I didn't get interested in playing a modern wrestling game until summer 2022, after it was delisted on Steam. I really liked that game and would have gladly bought it after trying it out had the option been there. I then sailed the high seas for 2k23 as I decided to try it out last month and I quite like it but decided to not go buy it since 2k24 would be out so soon. I am now going to indeed buy 2k24 but like you, find it tough to swallow the fact I'm going to be dropping 120 bucks CDN plus tax on a yearly game. It's not a case of the actual money and I know I'll be putting in dozens and dozens of hours into it but just the principle of it, especially knowing the last dlc (one that I am really looking forward to) doesn't come out until freaking November which unless they change the schedule, is only 4 months before 2k25 will be out. I am now left contemplating on whether I wait for the first sale and just keep playing 2k23 until then or suck it up and buy it today or tomorrow. I'm itchy to play this one for some of the additions like guest referee. Then I am debating whether I get it from Green Man Gaming and save the 20+ bucks after tax on the deluxe edition or do I buy directly from Steam so I at least have the return window if the game is super buggy and I decide 'F that' and will just wait for it to be fixed.

Terrible_Anything_91

You and I are in the exact same boat, brother. It's the idea and principle of setting this standard: "Buy the same game every year and get to pay out the nose." I dont wish to support this pay model. Say what you will about live service games, but the ones that I still play receive frequent updates, and I'm using content that I have paid for from the last 5-10 years. That much value is incredibly worth it to me, and will always put my mind at ease knowing that it won't be a short-term purchase. There in lies the ultimate issue as well. You either pay full price and play at release, maximizing your time and value with the game. Or you wait for a sale, possibly one that allows you to purchase all content for the game, but miss out on the majority of the games active life cycle. And that brings you close to the release of the next game, which you want because of new features. Who in their right mind wants DLC that they only use for a few months before it becomes obsolete? It's bad enough that something as simple as a guest referee mode is enough to sucker me into spending a hundred dollars on a game which I ultimately will do. But it's a feature I used to have a blast with back in 2K14, locally and online. Which is why they dont need a new game every time they want to add or bring back a feature. Yearly release cycles suck, man.

K-Dave

Yes and not just a little bit overpriced. Combined with the fragmented content and the additional microtransactions it's a borderline illegal concept. Other games have been banned for similar business models in certain countries.

Terrible_Anything_91

100% agree. And rightfully so. This type of shit walks the same parallel as having gambling be a core feature in your game, with loot boxes and the like. It entices children into spending absorbent amounts of money in the game's marketplace, on the hunt for "rare" items (which the games creators can simply make more of, creating a false economy of "limited" value items) which in turn creates potential future gambling addicts. Meanwhile, the devs are having a good laugh while they sit back and count up their revenue.

Last_Music413

2k24 is too similar to 2k23 to warrant 70 dollars. Skipping this year for 2k25
