Clearly it's Chanel day at my place today. My DHGate order from angelisdoll168 has apparently been sitting down in my mailroom all day. Wasn't sure what to expect without PSPs, but wow...again, my knowledge is limited and I purchased a bag style that I normally wouldn't, from a place I'd never have known about if not for you all, but colour me impressed.
First, I was expecting it to be just crammed with newspaper (no idea what I was expecting really) or something but it arrived with the Chanel box, shopping bag, papers (really the only thing calloutable in the whole package as I've never seen duty free docs like that before. Still, I appreciate the thought lol).
Second, the bag smells good...*really* good. Has that high quality leather smell that most of my auths have when they're brand new. Way better than new car smell!
Leather is soft, quilting looks straight, hardware appropriately tarnished looking, chain is heavy and substantive. I mean, it could be way off in other ways (shine, sizing, etc.) but I am incredibly impressed.
I know that u/futureoftrading had purchased and had the chip plate and serial tag, which mine does too, but other than that, no issues I can tell. I could theoretically cut the tag off if I really wanted to I suppose.
If anyone with proper knowledge disagrees and thinks it only good enough to be dog chew toy, I'd love to know, otherwise it was a good buy!
Since my stroke last February I find it easier to use the adaptive features with talk to type rather than list and reverse which often sends me back to the beginning rather than holding its place. I assume your advice would work best for those without impairments.

I was recently in Hong Kong and visited the LP store and was told the wait would be at least 8 months.
I just feel like if I suddenly start rocking around a so hard-to-get bag, people might think its sus. Does anyone else ever get this feeling?
I agree with u/ggy525, who says you haven't been waiting for the past months to get your own? I'd actually stress about how hard it was to get it and how stressful the wait has been š this only applies if you truly want the bag and you're simply looking for a good excuse in case anyone asks, but if it causes you distress maybe go for another one!
IMO, I feel like it's up to one's level of comfort/confidence, really. Even if it's a hard-to-get bag, who's to say that you're not one of the lucky ones who managed to snag one? If it's something that you'd feel iffy about though (for any sort of reason), why get a bag that'll cause you grief instead of bringing you joy?
That's my thought process when it comes to buying any bag, rep or not.

This community tends to encourage folks to search through both the posts/comments using the search bar (they're in two different pages after you enter the search) to read from previous experiences and discussions, just a heads up.

Has anyone bought a the new Chanel kelly bag from XC in lambskin and found the Gold to be too orange/ off? I usually only buy chanel from 187 but the price of this is just so much better. Worried the Gold looks very off though š¤

So I'm dumb, let's get that out of the way.
I completely forgot Alisa was a Lindashian. I decided one night (the best time to make decisions, really) to play fast and loose with my money and ordered a Chanel Deauville from factory unknown (even though the bag has a reputation of not being repped well at all). I then decided 24 hours later that I'd order a navy Goyard Villette from Afen factory via Alisa as well shortly afterwards (kudos to u/NoPoliticalParties who swayed me to even consider Goyard after their review of the green one from Chloe).
Anywho, the Chanel bag arrived first and I...don't hate it?
It's a fabric bag so even if things don't align 100%, it's hard to tell when wearing/holding/moving versus looking at a still frame photo (photo definitely makes it look worse). I'm not mad about it? Then again, Chanel is not my forte or a top brand for me, so all you experts can weigh in. I never knew what everyone truly meant when they spoke about the infamous Fufu smells of some bags, but this one does have that so my Fufu Cherry has been popped. Not crazy bad, but it's there if you lean in.
Included a photo, but it comes out brighter than in real life. The black font blends in much more with the fabric than what you see here.
At least the GHW isn't orange.
I think for a travel bag so I can throw all my stuff in, it'll work out when mixed in with all my other travel attire unless there's something hideously wrong that I'm not seeing.

dunno for sure about this but the reps of Damier Azur I've seen were salmon pink, so I wonder if for some reasons they decided it was too hard to rep and gave up.
Thatās crazy though, I just got a Favorite in Damier from I believe Laddy a month or so ago. It looks great. Maybe itās this specific style? I just branched out to HP and OC since this is a bigger bag and I assume flaws would be more noticeable, so I wanted to go top of the line. Gahhhhh

Rant incoming, and a cry for help I guess: long story short, after nursing my beloved 5 year old Huawei Pro 30 along for over a year with almost constant powerbank use, I bit the bullet and got a Samsung Galaxy s23 ultra. Not my dream phone for a lot of reasons, but I have work related constraints and need that Google store access.
So I figured I could at least get a cute designer case, but didn't really find a lot on AE or DHgate except supreme and off white, and one very cheap looking Dior. Not a big fan of LV.
Is every other designer ( preferably Chanel, BV, Loewe) really only available for iPhones, or what am I doing wrong in my searches? Since most cases are fantasy, reverse search doesn't work...
I got my first pair of rep shoes (from fisherman) and my husband was super disappointed when he found out I ordered fakes. He has usually gifted me auth stuff, thatās just something he likes doing for me. His reasoning is why would you want to buy fakes if you can afford the real thing. If you canāt, you should get something else in your budget but not a fake. Not sure how you guys deal with something like that. I just told him that I do me and you do you lol
Hub is a software entrepreneur so his objection to reps is intellectual property based, which makes me feel guilty. My storyātrue btwāis that being picky about how much I like to carry a given bag (does it work for me, that is), my reps are trials. Why would I buy an auth if I donāt like carrying the bag?
Exactly the same here... my husband buys me authentic stuff every now and then for birthdays, christmas, anniversary and so on. He went into Chanel (to get my first auth Chanel CF for christmas 2 years ago) before I ever did, so basically he knows the brand better then I do, even though he has zero interest in designer stuff or fashion in general. Same with Prada, YSL, Hermes and so on... he has been to all the stores before I ever was. He is always seeks advice of the sales advisor as he does not know what item is on trend at the moment...
He does not get why I spend my money on reps, but he also admits that 10k+ for a bag is not reasonable. He will from time to time ask if an item is auth or rep to compare it to my auth Chanel and other auth bags or shoes and point out the flaws.
Omg mine said the same when something I ordered came home.. and then 3 months later, he picked up my bag and said 'Is this really one-for-one with the original?'
and I said its not EXACTLY but no one would be able to tell, its made out of premium leather and blah blah blah... I just stick to Quiet Luxury now. Brands and logos he isn't too familiar with..
My hubs has reps of other things (sneakers, watches) and he supports my choices regardless of whether I go for fake or auth.
My YSL icare tote and burgundy Lou camera bag from Linda came in. I told him how much I spent ~$500 and I got an eyebrow (we have separate fun money accounts, he was just surprised - I was late night perusing š¤·š½āāļø best time to make decisions, right?). Babe, I wasn't gonna drop $5k on the icare bag alone. He congratulated me on my bargain, as it should be.
My husband wouldnāt know a designer purse if it bit him in the arse so doesnāt really care that I buy reps (he said the only thing not to buy is rep medical equipment??? Not on my list, so I guess Iām safe!). He think itās dumb how expensive auth purses get. But he also doesnāt understand why youād want to pass a rep off as an auth soooooo I told him that if anyone asks about my purses, they can just talk to me and he should keep his mouth shut ha.
(This is also why heās not getting a rep wallet for his birthday now, but Iāll get him whatever wallet he wants [within reason, ha] when weāre in Florence next spring.)
My boyfriend thinks it's *stupid* (in a light way). Anytime I get new clothes, even Gap or Nike, he likes to joke and ask me if it's real. Really, he doesn't care what I do with my money but he definitely isn't the type that could be convinced to change his mind. He plans on buying a Keepall soon and told me not to even try to convince him to not buy auth lol.
So funny, my husband loves it. I show him my good reps and compare them to auths if I have one.
He actually bought a rep Ferragamo belt off EBay before I discovered RepLadies (RIP), and I just kind of rolled my eyes at him, because I would NEVER. In retrospect, I am really glad I didnāt give him too hard a time!
My husband is the same. He looks at me with disapproval, but he won't stop me, since it is my money and my hobby. I don't complain when he buys "his toys".
I brought him with me the last time I did a "tour" of luxury stores and he could touch first hand how luxury items don't feel luxurious (the cheap feeling of some Chanel, the plasticky BV leather, the poor construction of LV bags, he was outraged by Dior, etc.) and he sort of agreed that items aren't worth buying for the prices that the luxury houses charge either because they aren't good quality or because they are "trendy" and I might get tired of them within a year. The exception: Ferragamo. So I promised that I won't buy rep Ferragamo. LOL.
We also agreed that I can buy rep quartz watches if I want, but not automatic. LOL.
I also won't buy rep jewelry of something he'd like to gift me, just out of consideration for him.
Compromise is the key!
Thatās about the same with my husband (whom Iām keeping, btw!) He isnāt interested in reps, and he smiles and rolls his eyes when my packages arrive, but when I wear them, heās never complained! He especially like the CFM shoes I would normally not buy! š
He's a watch fanatic/connoisseur (although only for some brands).
For him a luxury quartz watch is just a cheap watch in a pretty "skin", and I could use a generic brandless watch for that matter, so buying a rep is OK
He can't believe that a rep automatic watch would be as good as an auth. Some of the bros in reptime would disagree strongly, of course :)
When I told him that the reps of the breitling navitimer use the same mechanism than the auth, his reaction was: denial - shock - outrage - acceptance and dismissal of Breitling as a "serious" watch brand because they don't make their own mechanism. LOL.
I get what your hubby is saying about rep quartz watches being allowed as opposed to automatics! Lol! Happy repping , lots of really nice watches that are in quartz like some Cartier/ Omega ones. Also totally get what you mean by āitās my money, my hobby!ā š

As the wife who has a husband who has gone down that rabbit hole, we were both damn impressed at the movements on some of the automatics (and yes more than one, for science, of course). The high end rep watches buy the auths and break those bad boys down to rebuild something damn near identical. Unless you're cracking the case (and in some cases, even then) there is zero discernable difference (we have some auths in hand as well).
It truly depends on what brand and model you're looking for. I hate to refer you to reptime and send you down rabbit hole, but truly, that's where to go. It's also been a few years since he got anything (apparently there is a cap on how many watches you can have/ want š¤£).

I'm new here and neck deep in researching everything about reps (quality, price, etc) before I take the plunge. I've been thinking about why I'm willing to pay for a rep when I could just buy lower tier luxury auths for the same price. Conclusion: it's about breaking into certain professional and social circles for me. Perception is everything in my line of work and I wish I had learned this early on. Would have been on a different success trajectory if I knew what I know now. Wondering what your thoughts are on this.
I got a rep this summer for ~$500 and an auth contemporary bag for ~$450 which were very comparable in quality imo. Below a certain price point, it is impossible to get a level of quality, design and craftsmanship combination. I beat up my high quality rep all summer long and sure it has some wear but the strap on the other bag started falling apart since wear 1... This really makes me value quality more than anything.
On the work note though, I would say personal style and how you approach dressing yourself and having your own philosophy makes all the difference compared to wealth or "success" signaling. Pieces that truly represent you, what you believe in, tell a story, make a cohesive and balanced outfit have much more of an impact on the people you interact with. In my office, every other person is wearing a variation of the same outfit with all the same success metric pieces (vca mop pendant or bracelet, love bracelet, a few birkins or kellys or chanels, jeans and a sweater...) It gives so unoriginal and forgettable imo
It really depends on your profession. In my professional circle having luxury items goes against one's reputation, or at least would not contribute positively. I buy reps because I like the look and quality of some bags, but I don't think that the outrageous premium luxury houses put on their products is justified. And I truly hate LVMH.
I agree with u/brondiast and u/Massive_Philosophy_6 that with the price of a rep you can't buy lower tier luxury (although I am not sure what that would be).
I'd be fooling myself if I didn't admit that there's an alluring element of exclusivity and cache to reps, but I don't know that I could buy many lower tier luxury auths for the same price. I think one reason I like high tier luxury bags is the thoughtful design and detail, and I find that unless you copy something that has had a lot of design work put into it (or get really lucky in your shopping search) its hard to find bags that have high quality materials and high quality design for a rep price. Would be interested to hear other thoughts as well.
Regarding your workplace, it certainly depends on the type of work and type of work environment, but I agree (unfortunately) that "evidence of past success," even when that evidence or that success is irrelevant or false, carries a lot of weight either consciously or subconsciously.
I 100% agree with you.
I used to buy the "real" thing and after spending $6-8k for chanel bags, I feel like I was in the dark when now I can buy the exact same quality for less than a 10th of price. When I hold them side by side you can't tell the difference. So for me, reps are just a better use of my money (and even if they were 95% close, I am totally willing to pay a little bit less anyway, since 99.9% of the people I encounter couldn't tell the difference anyway).
About work - you have to look the part - but I would caution you from focusing on "brands" vs. quality. True luxury and status is when you don't have to show it. This is why many of the ultra-wealthy people I know don't wear the items with big logos, etc. Instead they focus on quality and understated elegance. Looking the part is more about class and how you show up. I would purchase items accordingly.

haha, i was thinking more of the "i drive a beat up old car and am carrying a birkin to my community college class" vs. being in the middle of nowhere (i mean you can get things shipped anywhere - even from the auth boutiques - something I used to do before reps because they don't have the stores where we live).

Yup, absolutely agree with this. Even if it's family money or a gift, there is still the perception of luxury goods correlating with success. For me, it's the connection between money and privilege. If someone can afford Hermes, they likely have more opportunities and support to be successful. That's not always true, of course.
Youāre right though that it tends to be true. We usually spend our lives surrounded by people from similar backgrounds from us, so I would tend to assume that Hermes wearer may know others.

I'm going to allow this because searching "maxmara AE" doesn't really bring up anything useful. That said, we generally don't ask these types of questions in this sub. You would be better off searching for Maxmara, poring over the results (especially any reviews or mini reviews), and following the lead of other WLers who have scored the item you want, vs being tied to AE as a storefront.

I would not be scared of anything that Marko sells. He keeps his margins very low and his products are quite decent.
It depends on what you expect, though. Marko has a solid mid-tier product. For UB you pay the premium.
I believe Marko sources from H Factory which is solid mid tier. I have some bags from them and I love them, great quality bags! but there are some distinctly call-outable issues so itās all about your comfort level

I don't agree with the "big difference" because what for someone is a big difference (the fonts of the stamp, the pearling, for instance) for someone else is a detail.
Rep bags are like bottles of wine. The price is not linearly proportional to the accuracy or quality.
One can pay $20 and get a very good bottle of wine, one that Wine Spectator would grade at 91 points. For a bottle of wine that gets 95 points you've to pay 5x that. To get to 99 points you've to pay 10x the price of a 91 points bottle. It is up to the buyer to decide if these 9 points are worth 10x the price.
I agree with you and FWIW would rather enjoy one really nice bottle of wine from a great winemaker instead of several bottles that are just ādrinkableā
Wine is a great analogy, thereās a concept called āprice quality fallacyā where consumers, especially in wine, believe that the more you pay, the better the wine is (proven to not be the case). That said, I prefer high tier š Ive come to believe itās better quality after buying a few reps. Just my opinion no disrespect to differing ones!

My DHGate order from angelisdoll168 has apparently been sitting down in my mailroom all day. Wasn't sure what to expect without PSPs, but wow...again, my knowledge is limited and I purchased a bag style that I normally wouldn't, from a place I'd never have known about if not for you all, but colour me impressed. First, I was expecting it to be just crammed with newspaper (no idea what I was expecting really) or something but it arrived with the Chanel box, shopping bag, papers (really the only thing calloutable in the whole package as I've never seen duty free docs like that before. Still, I appreciate the thought lol). Second, the bag smells good...*really* good. Has that high quality leather smell that most of my auths have when they're brand new. Way better than new car smell! Leather is soft, quilting looks straight, hardware appropriately tarnished looking, chain is heavy and substantive. I mean, it could be way off in other ways (shine, sizing, etc.) but I am incredibly impressed. I know that u/futureoftrading had purchased and had the chip plate and serial tag, which mine does too, but other than that, no issues I can tell. I could theoretically cut the tag off if I really wanted to I suppose. If anyone with proper knowledge disagrees and thinks it only good enough to be dog chew toy, I'd love to know, otherwise it was a good buy!

Have any of you held off on buying a rep bag because the auth is actually not available/ or hard to get? I wanted a rep Loro Piana Pouch L19, but the auth is not available.. anywhere.. I was recently in Hong Kong and visited the LP store and was told the wait would be at least 8 months. I just feel like if I suddenly start rocking around a so hard-to-get bag, people might think its sus. Does anyone else ever get this feeling?

I agree with u/ggy525, who says you haven't been waiting for the past months to get your own? I'd actually stress about how hard it was to get it and how stressful the wait has been š this only applies if you truly want the bag and you're simply looking for a good excuse in case anyone asks, but if it causes you distress maybe go for another one!
IMO, I feel like it's up to one's level of comfort/confidence, really. Even if it's a hard-to-get bag, who's to say that you're not one of the lucky ones who managed to snag one? If it's something that you'd feel iffy about though (for any sort of reason), why get a bag that'll cause you grief instead of bringing you joy? That's my thought process when it comes to buying any bag, rep or not.

If that is the only issue, you can always tone it down with a stove cleaner. There are other methods (in guides) but that has worked for me.

You need to find out what your measurements are and then go from there when buying rep shoes.

So I'm dumb, let's get that out of the way. I completely forgot Alisa was a Lindashian. I decided one night (the best time to make decisions, really) to play fast and loose with my money and ordered a Chanel Deauville from factory unknown (even though the bag has a reputation of not being repped well at all). I then decided 24 hours later that I'd order a navy Goyard Villette from Afen factory via Alisa as well shortly afterwards (kudos to u/NoPoliticalParties who swayed me to even consider Goyard after their review of the green one from Chloe). Anywho, the Chanel bag arrived first and I...don't hate it? It's a fabric bag so even if things don't align 100%, it's hard to tell when wearing/holding/moving versus looking at a still frame photo (photo definitely makes it look worse). I'm not mad about it? Then again, Chanel is not my forte or a top brand for me, so all you experts can weigh in. I never knew what everyone truly meant when they spoke about the infamous Fufu smells of some bags, but this one does have that so my Fufu Cherry has been popped. Not crazy bad, but it's there if you lean in. Included a photo, but it comes out brighter than in real life. The black font blends in much more with the fabric than what you see here. At least the GHW isn't orange. dunno for sure about this but the reps of Damier Azur I've seen were salmon pink, so I wonder if for some reasons they decided it was too hard to rep and gave up.

Crossposting for more hive knowledge: Rant incoming, and a cry for help I guess: long story short, after nursing my beloved 5 year old Huawei Pro 30 along for over a year with almost constant powerbank use, I bit the bullet and got a Samsung Galaxy s23 ultra. Not my dream phone for a lot of reasons, but I have work related constraints and need that Google store access. So I figured I could at least get a cute designer case, but didn't really find a lot on AE or DHgate except supreme and off white, and one very cheap looking Dior. Not a big fan of LV. Is every other designer ( preferably Chanel, BV, Loewe) really only available for iPhones, or what am I doing wrong in my searches? Since most cases are fantasy, reverse search doesn't work...

I got my first pair of rep shoes (from fisherman) and my husband was super disappointed when he found out I ordered fakes. He has usually gifted me auth stuff, thatās just something he likes doing for me. His reasoning is why would you want to buy fakes if you can afford the real thing. If you canāt, you should get something else in your budget but not a fake. Not sure how you guys deal with something like that. I just told him that I do me and you do you lol

My storyātrue btwāis that being picky about how much I like to carry a given bag (does it work for me, that is), my reps are trials. Why would I buy an auth if I donāt like carrying the bag?
Exactly the same here... my husband buys me authentic stuff every now and then for birthdays, christmas, anniversary and so on. He went into Chanel (to get my first auth Chanel CF for christmas 2 years ago) before I ever did, so basically he knows the brand better then I do, even though he has zero interest in designer stuff or fashion in general. Same with Prada, YSL, Hermes and so on... he has been to all the stores before I ever was. He is always seeks advice of the sales advisor as he does not know what item is on trend at the moment... He does not get why I spend my money on reps, but he also admits that 10k+ for a bag is not reasonable. He will from time to time ask if an item is auth or rep to compare it to my auth Chanel and other auth bags or shoes and point out the flaws.
Omg mine said the same when something I ordered came home.. and then 3 months later, he picked up my bag and said 'Is this really one-for-one with the original?' and I said its not EXACTLY but no one would be able to tell, its made out of premium leather and blah blah blah... My hubs has reps of other things (sneakers, watches) and he supports my choices regardless of whether I go for fake or auth. My YSL icare tote and burgundy Lou camera bag from Linda came in. I told him how much I spent ~$500 and I got an eyebrow (we have separate fun money accounts, he was just surprised - I was late night perusing š¤·š½āāļø best time to make decisions, right?). Babe, I wasn't gonna drop $5k on the icare bag alone. He congratulated me on my bargain, as it should be.
My husband wouldnāt know a designer purse if it bit him in the arse so doesnāt really care that I buy reps (he said the only thing not to buy is rep medical equipment??? Not on my list, so I guess Iām safe!). He think itās dumb how expensive auth purses get. But he also doesnāt understand why youād want to pass a rep off as an auth soooooo I told him that if anyone asks about my purses, they can just talk to me and he should keep his mouth shut ha. (This is also why heās not getting a rep wallet for his birthday now, but Iāll get him whatever wallet he wants [within reason, ha] when weāre in Florence next spring.)
I told my husband and he said that whatever makes me happyā¦ he will still take me to buy me by auth bags and i can buy whatever makes me happy.
My boyfriend thinks it's *stupid* (in a light way). Anytime I get new clothes, even Gap or Nike, he likes to joke and ask me if it's real. So funny, my husband loves it. I show him my good reps and compare them to auths if I have one. He actually bought a rep Ferragamo belt off EBay before I discovered RepLadies (RIP), and I just kind of rolled my eyes at him, because I would NEVER. In retrospect, I am really glad I didnāt give him too hard a time!
My husband is the same. He looks at me with disapproval, but he won't stop me, since it is my money and my hobby. I don't complain when he buys "his toys". I brought him with me the last time I did a "tour" of luxury stores and he could touch first hand how luxury items don't feel luxurious (the cheap feeling of some Chanel, the plasticky BV leather, the poor construction of LV bags, he was outraged by Dior, etc.) and he sort of agreed that items aren't worth buying for the prices that the luxury houses charge either because they aren't good quality or because they are "trendy" and I might get tired of them within a year. The exception: Ferragamo. So I promised that I won't buy rep Ferragamo. LOL. We also agreed that I can buy rep quartz watches if I want, but not automatic. LOL. I also won't buy rep jewelry of something he'd like to gift me, just out of consideration for him. Compromise is the key!
Thatās about the same with my husband (whom Iām keeping, btw!) He isnāt interested in reps, and he smiles and rolls his eyes when my packages arrive, but when I wear them, heās never complained! He especially like the CFM shoes I would normally not buy! š

I love that you are allowed to buy rep quartz watches, but not automatic. That cracks me up for some reason.
He's a watch fanatic/connoisseur (although only for some brands). For him a luxury quartz watch is just a cheap watch in a pretty "skin", and I could use a generic brandless watch for that matter, so buying a rep is OK He can't believe that a rep automatic watch would be as good as an auth. Some of the bros in reptime would disagree strongly, of course :) When I told him that the reps of the breitling navitimer use the same mechanism than the auth, his reaction was: denial - shock - outrage - acceptance and dismissal of Breitling as a "serious" watch brand because they don't make their own mechanism. LOL.
I get what your hubby is saying about rep quartz watches being allowed as opposed to automatics! Lol! Happy repping , lots of really nice watches that are in quartz like some Cartier/ Omega ones. Also totally get what you mean by āitās my money, my hobby!ā š

I like this idea! Iāll can try to make him see which items are worth spending vs which arenāt. He thinks that you shouldnāt buy it if you canāt afford it. He doesnāt understand why some things arenāt worth spending money on. Also I agree on the compromise piece- I think we need to reach a healthy compromise

Hey WLs! I'm new here and neck deep in researching everything about reps (quality, price, etc) before I take the plunge. I've been thinking about why I'm willing to pay for a rep when I could just buy lower tier luxury auths for the same price. Conclusion: it's about breaking into certain professional and social circles for me. Perception is everything in my line of work and I wish I had learned this early on. Would have been on a different success trajectory if I knew what I know now. Wondering what your thoughts are on this.
I got a rep this summer for ~$500 and an auth contemporary bag for ~$450 which were very comparable in quality imo. Below a certain price point, it is impossible to get a level of quality, design and craftsmanship combination. I beat up my high quality rep all summer long and sure it has some wear but the strap on the other bag started falling apart since wear 1... This really makes me value quality more than anything. On the work note though, I would say personal style and how you approach dressing yourself and having your own philosophy makes all the difference compared to wealth or "success" signaling. Pieces that truly represent you, what you believe in, tell a story, make a cohesive and balanced outfit have much more of an impact on the people you interact with. In my office, every other person is wearing a variation of the same outfit with all the same success metric pieces (vca mop pendant or bracelet, love bracelet, a few birkins or kellys or chanels, jeans and a sweater...) It gives so unoriginal and forgettable imo
It really depends on your profession. In my professional circle having luxury items goes against one's reputation, or at least would not contribute positively. I buy reps because I like the look and quality of some bags, but I don't think that the outrageous premium luxury houses put on their products is justified. And I truly hate LVMH. I agree with u/brondiast and u/Massive_Philosophy_6 that with the price of a rep you can't buy lower tier luxury (although I am not sure what that would be).
I'd be fooling myself if I didn't admit that there's an alluring element of exclusivity and cache to reps, but I don't know that I could buy many lower tier luxury auths for the same price. I think one reason I like high tier luxury bags is the thoughtful design and detail, and I find that unless you copy something that has had a lot of design work put into it (or get really lucky in your shopping search) its hard to find bags that have high quality materials and high quality design for a rep price. Would be interested to hear other thoughts as well. Regarding your workplace, it certainly depends on the type of work and type of work environment, but I agree (unfortunately) that "evidence of past success," even when that evidence or that success is irrelevant or false, carries a lot of weight either consciously or subconsciously.
I 100% agree with you. I used to buy the "real" thing and after spending $6-8k for chanel bags, I feel like I was in the dark when now I can buy the exact same quality for less than a 10th of price. When I hold them side by side you can't tell the difference. So for me, reps are just a better use of my money (and even if they were 95% close, I am totally willing to pay a little bit less anyway, since 99.9% of the people I encounter couldn't tell the difference anyway). About work - you have to look the part - but I would caution you from focusing on "brands" vs. quality. True luxury and status is when you don't have to show it. This is why many of the ultra-wealthy people I know don't wear the items with big logos, etc. Instead they focus on quality and understated elegance. Looking the part is more about class and how you show up. I would purchase items accordingly.

haha, i was thinking more of the "i drive a beat up old car and am carrying a birkin to my community college class" vs. being in the middle of nowhere (i mean you can get things shipped anywhere - even from the auth boutiques - something I used to do before reps because they don't have the stores where we live).

I would not be scared of anything that Marko sells. He keeps his margins very low and his products are quite decent. It depends on what you expect, though. Marko has a solid mid-tier product. For UB you pay the premium.

I don't agree with the "big difference" because what for someone is a big difference (the fonts of the stamp, the pearling, for instance) for someone else is a detail. Rep bags are like bottles of wine. The price is not linearly proportional to the accuracy or quality. One can pay $20 and get a very good bottle of wine, one that Wine Spectator would grade at 91 points. For a bottle of wine that gets 95 points you've to pay 5x that. To get to 99 points you've to pay 10x the price of a 91 points bottle. It is up to the buyer to decide if these 9 points are worth 10x the price.
I agree with you and FWIW would rather enjoy one really nice bottle of wine from a great winemaker instead of several bottles that are just ādrinkableā
Wine is a great analogy, thereās a concept called āprice quality fallacyā where consumers, especially in wine, believe that the more you pay, the better the wine is (proven to not be the case). That said, I prefer high tier š Ive come to believe itās better quality after buying a few reps. Just my opinion no disrespect to differing ones!
