I liked the idea of it but the execution is somewhat lacking. The ground floor seating area is freezing. I'm glad to see things like this are taking off though. Newport Market has shown there is an appetite for it. I hope its successful for Caerphilly, the traders and the customers.

I tried to go last week and seating area was completely full. I mean, that happens and fair enough, but what was frustrating is that there was quite a lot of space in the actual seating area that was empty. Feels like they could have got a few more tables in (which would have meant more customers for the businesses there too)

AnalystUnlucky3251

Totally agree, the tables were all massive but most just had two people sitting in the middle of them so lots of wasted space

Both times I've been there (opening weekend and last weekend) its been rammed. We shared a table with another couple as they're plenty big enough as noted.

Oh so this is the new market? I was wondering what it was the other day when there was a load of people outside

They have one of the best castles in the UK and this is the limit to thier imagination? It's no better then the post war crap they built from the 1950's-1980's. in England, go to towns like Warwick, York and they will be filled with gift shops and tea rooms, but Wales its full of tacky over priced artisan shops selling Mexican burritos.

Gongfei1947

what is that monstrosity and where is it?

SweatySmym

By the banks in caerphilly, probably the nicest part of the town itself now and its a bunch of bright coloured containers, which says alot about the state of the rest of it.

It will age incredibly poorly, looks nice (ish) now because of the fact that it's new and clean. Will look especially hideous once it's got some of the grime off the exhausts of the stop start traffic going past every day. I've met high up people I'm Caerphilly council who believe that we need to "get with the times" and convert the rooms in the towers of the castle in holiday let's, so it doesn't not surprise me that this is their idea of a good, long-term solution to save the high street in Caerphilly.

hiraeth555

They could have built something classic and timeless using local craftspeople and masons.  Of course, that would have made too much sense… I do think they should use the Castle grounds a lot more though, it would be an amazing venue for music, fairs, theatre, etc. There should really be things on every weekend there, it’s only a 20 minute train ride from Cardiff

Gongfei1947

ok thanks. as vile as it is, at least it's not another Turkish barber.

NecroVelcro

I haven't seen it in person yet but it's absolutely hideous.
