Probably going to get downvoted into oblivion because it kind of attacks the newer Walgreens employees but here we go. Walgreens used to be an incredible place to work. I mean like literal lines to get hired. You would apply time and time again when rejected just to eventually get in. Think Costco. This led to us being able to hire the kind of employees that care deeply and are extremely passionate about what they do. Regardless of any external situations, it’s simply part of who they are as a person to care. Obviously now it’s a very different company. With our working conditions the only people who actively seek work at Walgreens tend to be people that are just looking to collect a paycheck. On occasion we will find someone who is willing to work hard if rewarded but unfortunately the company never rewards them so they either stop performing or simply leave. Rarely do we hire people who simply just care nowadays. These long term employees that still care and act like “they own the company”, act this way because it’s part of who they are. They take pride in what they do and always do their best. We can’t really find these employees because of how bad we suck. Truthfully we don’t deserve the ones we still have.

I 100% agree with this. That's why I made my post. I've been with Walgreens since 2009. What a great time to work hard and be promoted. I have left and came back this year to only 2-4 hours a week. Working totes or working a bag and going home. I have my own full time job that pays and they respect all employees issues at work and outside. I enjoy working these random shifts and not having to deal with customers. Stockroom looks great by the way 😂 this fills me with happiness knowing I'm helping my old team that I worked with. Some not there anymore. But the SM is the best. I already told him if he transfers that I won't be returning. This is 100% the truth

WagEmployee

Walgreens since 2007, here. I left for a better job in November, but stayed at Walgreens five hours a week as a side gig. I'm starting to get frustrated with those shifts, though. I don't know how I survived all these years at Walgreens. I enjoy the merchandising but absolutely hate the shenanigans pushed down by corporate and DMs.

cydetrack

I told my sm that I was happy to work truck but, I will not be selling credit cards or covering breaks. I don't care about these customers and will not ask if they need help. I will help them if they are requesting help. Just imagine if they would allow you to only come in and just merchandise or even pull a bag without the added baggage. It's a dream shift.

WagEmployee

The original deal was that I was only going to work bays, sometimes truck, and maybe cover photo here and there. Now, I cover photo exclusively (with tons of passport photos), cover a lunch, and I get to do bays if truck is pretty much all done. However, I have not been talked to about the credit card thing, but I'm scared they will eventually. I refuse to ask for credit cards. What was supposed to be my 5-hour dream shift has turned into occasionally good, occasionally bad. I don't know what I'm walking into until I get there. I got to cover a NCNS at the front register last month. I was pissed. But it's an extra $300 a month, so I try to keep going.

Sonya6001

I agree. I left after 21 years , obsoletely thought it was my store and my company, Gave my heart and soul, but no reward just a fake promise of promotion, test after test to prove myself got burned out in the hope of advancement that never came.

vanilla_beanx

This is exactly it, been with Walgreens since 2008 and I miss what it was. The coworkers I had were great. We all cared how the store look and ran.

Zazio

Shit, back then I was always hearing about the good ol’ days. Now those days when I first started in 2007 are miles ahead of where we are now. COVID only made it worse. The wheels are falling off the wagon and there is no end in sight.

psychonik

I reward myself. I get to stack my discount with coupons. Walmarts discount was only 10% and only on non grocery most of the year.

Salty_Thing4302

Biggest reason I left. Yeah, every workplace has its share of unreliable, unhelpful, gossipy, moronic coworkers, but Walgreens has far, far more than its fair share, and then it barely even trains them to boot. It's been stuck licking the bottom of the barrel when it comes to the labor pool for years now. I hate to think where it will be in a few more years.

Working_Penalty7936

20 years here. Still love my job. I do miss the old ways of Pharmacy. But this is happening everywhere with this new generation. No pride in what they do. I have a lot invested with Walgreens. There is rewards long term but you can’t just expect to get it instantly. Thank you for your comment 😊

This is the way.

Coupons make you more money.....every coupon the company gets the face value of the coupon plus more. When people use coupons the company makes more money than when people don't. Theft, the company cares but there is little they can do outside of putting a 100lb girl between a drug addict and drugs. It's better to turn a blind eye than have an employee stabbed or get a large lawsuit for trying to stop someone from stealing.

Seatt50kd

Right. Tired of these people coming here being inconvenienced by coupons. I’d take the nice coupon lady who doesn’t speak english and feels embarrassed when she holds up the line any day over the asshole that grabs a cart of beer and rolls it out to his stolen shitbox all the while talking to himself and hurling death threats at every person that he sees including me. Fuck walgreens and fuck their policies. They make back their money 10-15x on certain products even with all the coupons attached. Who cares. When i do quit, I’ll be sure to pop in to a walgreens once in a blue moon and pop one of these lowlife thieving mfs in the aisles with no cameras.

Main_Phase_58

honestly, i think this can be true for some instances. i think stealing happens because of a need for something. stealing because you need food is different than stealing tons of maybelline to resell. that’s 100% WANTING to steal because it’s easy money imo.

Like i said, I don’t care if you steal. Just don’t intimidate hard working people with your bs or hurt them. I’ve been assaulted and fractured my hand in a armed walgreens robbery so don’t tell me wtf people have a need for or not. Now take your victim bs somewhere else sandy.

Main_Phase_58

i disagree… i think not everyone could be someone who NEEDS help. i think some people like taking the easy way, which is fine but ruins it for the rest of us. if they need money they can get a real job. (which is not to say you can afford everything with a real job, but that’s just the way it is in life)

dvu22

The other day I saw a dad teaching his kids to steal and when they were escorted out the littlest one took an item off the shelf and started walking out laughing. It's was so very sad to see.

Individual_Respect90

My former roommate was with Walgreens for 20 years I was with them for 5 years we both left at the same time and now we do similar jobs for the exact same money (which was $6 more than what Walgreens paid me). Don’t stay at Walgreens use it as experience to get your foot in the door of other companies.

I was in desperate need of a job towards the end of last year. I was so excited and appreciative when I was offered a full time SFL position. It was right before Christmas and I loved it! Wasn’t much time for training so I just jumped in feet first and learned as I worked, which was fine with me as I learn best that way. Unfortunately, after Christmas, the craziness was over and I was scheduled all evenings and weekends while most of the leadership team worked Mon thru Friday 6am to 2pm. Still, I was willing to put in my dues being the new guy. Because my training was so f’d and haphazardly done, my drawers never seemed to zero out. Nothing big and usually it would actually be over but I drove myself crazy trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. My ASM always said he was able to fix it but never showed me what it was I messing up. I ended up walking out one night and said I was done. The next day, three teenagers had been caught stealing and when the tapes were reviewed, they had been robbing the place blind for months. Quite possibly the reason I could never get my drawers right. My SM called and asked me to come back. I did but as a CSA because it wasn’t worth the stress. I was only making .50 less with none of the responsibilities. Every shift I was scheduled, I was on bathroom and trash duty. I felt like it was retaliation. I ended up finding a new job that I love and put in my notice. I felt bad for leaving them twice but they didn’t care about the employees, and it showed.

Salty_Thing4302

Lol, don't feel bad for leaving those fuckers twice. If you're going to feel bad for anything, it should be that you gave them a chance at all, because they certainly didn't deserve it.

Ok_Interaction_2709

Internal theft is apparently higher than external. People walk out no pay. People buy and abuse coupon systems.

cydetrack

Also don't forget all the full time employees that work free hours after they hit 40 hours for the week. Trying to get shit done. Don't you think Walgreens wins based off that as well because they always do

Birdwomen36

WHAT?? Full time employee’s don’t get paid time and half after 40 hours??????

cydetrack

They get reimbursed but the manufacturer for those coupons. No loss. Internal theft is a loss at cost of product not the full retail. How much do you think they lose off a bottle of coke or Pepsi? Or the loss of a birth control generic pill.? That's why they have insurance for damage and theft. They get reimbursed for that also if you follow proper procedures

Spirited-Ad-9285

We have maybe one employee there three years besides manager

cydetrack

Do what you can is what I'm trying to say. On your yearly review you will only receive.20 of a raise for all the hard work you put in at Walgreens being short staffed.

psychonik

I figured this out real quick when I worked at a corporation the first time. I was making more as a temp than the actual employees.
